I mean cheap young veterans not a guy who will be 36 when the season starts, I don't think he will make it through the season healthy.

I would think both him and Ryan Clark would be gone due to age.

Keisel will only be back if he takes the hometown discount....

I'm not as concerned with the loss of production from Keisel...ok well I am...but I would be more concerned with the loss of leadership. Over the last couple of seasons we have lost/let go of some of the corner-stones of our foundation. I believe this is behind some (not all) of our troubles. I believe this is why we got better as the season went on. Some of the guys had to step up, under fire, and be that leader. I'm not advocating the retention of Keisel if he has no value, what-so-ever, but if he can play even a little I would keep him for the leadership, if nothing else. At the least, one more season as I think we have a couple of guys that are ready to step into the leadership role. Anyhow, just a thought!

I agree there are some guys that need to step up to the leadership role worilds is one of them, troy, timmons, gay, cortez, w.allen, mclendon, Woodley, heyward. these guys have been here awhile now compared to many. they are the new breed of steelers leaders. at least on defense. in their 4th and 5th+ years they should be in their primes to take over these roles. I would love da beard back at a discounted price, maybe like what foote got last year but he would only be in the sub packages and rotational with a chance to get to the PO's 1 more year. I do agree he will be good in the locker room and as a teacher.

He's still productive. He graded out 13th among 3-4 defensive ends last year, had 4 sacks, forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and 29 tackles. I'd bring him back and like you said, he's very valuable as a veteran voice.

Clarks production slipped, Keisel's production was pretty good once healthy.

That is why I would get rid of both, but if I bring one back on the cheap, it would definitely be Keisel.

I REALLY hope it doesn`t come to that, but if he chooses to play elsewhere next year, I will still respect him, same as Harrisson..
I had the feeling he would rather retire, than play for another team, but that is EXTREMELY rare nowadays...
If he wants to keep playing, and we are dumb enough to let him go, more power to him.
Be a damn shame, to me, tho... He was one of the few, that kept the fire alive, and refused to give up, on a crappy season, last year.
We could really use him again this year, even if it`s just as a back-up/ rotate off the bench, player...
Not to mention the locker room presence...
The guy is a true Steeler, thru and thru, just like Ward, Bettis, Ben, Peazy, etc...
It would hurt to see him finish elsewhere, but, I wouldn`t blame him..
I think he can still play at an "NFL" level...Sure he might get hurt, but so could a 21 yr old...
    GO STEELERS!

That leadership crap is overrated the Steelers were 8-8 the last two seasons, you lead by example go out and make plays.

Kiesel is a leader, and a productive player. Thanks for the feedback to my post... Id bring him back, he'd accept a reduced role if need be and wouldn't break the bank. He's one of the dudes that plays with heart and there is no better example, especially when they're a good player to boot... As far as locker room influence goes I mean.

bring him back at vet mini if he'll take it, this season will ice the cake as far as his durability and such is concerned... Good vet to have.

So I guess when players used to say what a great leader and role model Hoke was they really didn't know what they were talking about?

99 will be back at vet min as a back up. We will draft Nix from ND first round. Move 90 outside. 99 will teach 90 how to play DT or DE whatever you want to call it. For a year than 99 retires. Thank you Brett!!!

You don't really think Kiesel shoulders the blame for those 8-8 seasons do you? I don't want to hear they are all to blame crap, he does his job and does it pretty well.
