I'm going to assume that there should have been a sarcasm emoticon with that.

For pretty much everyone on here, except inky, there is!:lolol:
Haven`t you seen how in love he is, with the new nike uni`s in college?
Aside from that, I agree almost completley with your post about altering the game to satisfy the younger generation, with no patience.
While I agree with you about kids today demanding instant gratification, and I have bigger issues with Goodell changing the game, in other regards, I actually kinda like the idea about changing the point after process...
I`m not sure if this is the way I would do it, and I completley understand those who don`t want to change it at all, but, I do think it`s too much of a "gimme", as is.
If you wanna just give em 7, for a td, and eliminate the extra point, I think that, eliminates one area for "strategy", or just random bad luck to come in to play.
I would like to see it changed, but I have no idea, what the best way to do it would be...
I know Mac was being sarcastic, about giving 2 points for fg`s inside of 30 yards, and 4 points for fg`s over 50 yards, but, that just shows how many ways you could change the game.
That`s too extreme for me, but it would be interesting.
There was a thread on here a month or two ago, about proposed changes to the point after attempt, and it just de-generated, into ridiculous ideas.
Some of them were quite funny.
Just goes to show, it`s hard to mess with the tradition of this game.
And in most cases, I agree with keeping it how it is/was.
Changing the point after attempt, tho, does have potential to make the game better/more interesting, imho.
I`d be real interested in hearing other ideas from the competition committee, about how to do it, tho, because, I really don`t like this one.
    GO STEELERS!

His taste runs a different path then most here. Some of the ones he has liked, I thought were hideous

Yes, I do remember that now that you mention it.

Oh well, we all have our weird likes and dislikes. I can't stand the "concept" uni's and stuff like that (at least in terms of being considered for actual uniforms), but if you like them inky, more power to you

A ridiculous rule like this will only increase the importance of kickers and thus increase their salaries. We have enough salary cap problems. My vote is NAY.

tried to include the "Gaelic Rules Football" clip, but, failed...
Anyhow, kinda reminds me of sumthin called "Australian Rules Football", that ESPN used to show in the wee hours of the morning, a few years ago...
Unless I`m mistaken, they used an American shaped "football", in that, tho...
Might be Goodell`s idea of what football should be,...
If every goal counted for 100 points, and no one was allowed to touch each other?(For "player safety", of course)...
Like I said, I`m completley against the rule changes, that make it even harder on the defense, but...
I don`t think it`s a crime against the game, to think about making the decision to go for 2 points, or take the gimme point after, more of a challenge, or a factor in the game...
Hell, if he wants to outlaw kickoffs, we could at least get some risk involved, in the "automatic" point after... Right???
Again, I`m not a fan of the "42 yard solution", But, I do think there are some possibilities, to tweak the system, if they want to eliminate kickoffs...
It would depend on how they do it, and I just can`t get behind this one...
Let them come up with some others, from the comp committee, and let the owners debate...
This just seems like a starting point for discussion, to me, and I really don`t think it`s all bad...
    GO STEELERS!

I like the idea of moving the extra point back or making the goal post skinnier. It would make that play much more tense.

I am NOT in favor of elimnating the kicking game all together. Yeah, people make fun of kickers, but I feel that kickers are a fundamental part of the game....it is called "Football" after all...

I don't advocate moving the kick back. Keep the PAT, keep the LOS the same, but move the kicker closer to the LOS, making blocked PATs more of a possibility.

Correct - Aussie Rules is very similar to gaelic , but no netted goal and goalposts either side of the main ones.

Kind of like what American Football would be if only punters played it. In fact, I believe one or two NFL teams hired aussie players as punters...

Put Gooddell's big fat head up there and have it go in circles like the shooting the duck game at the carnies. If the kicker hits it and knocks it down, then the team is awarded 10 points instead of 1.

Make the kicker hit the upright. That's got to be harder than just kicking it where it is now, you would think. And, because they kicker has to angle themselve's more, a better chance of a block.

Maybe force PAT's to be drop kicked? lol In all honesty if they are going to change the PAT, thy should just take it out and award 7 points for a TD. You can risk the "freebie" extra point by going for 2.

I don't like the idea of subtracting points. I say kick it 42 yards and make it interesting.

I'm not really a fan of changing the game to make it "more exciting". If I have to choose between taking away the PAT and moving it back, I choose moving back.

How much do those differ from "Rugby"? I think we might have had this discussion before. Rugby is fun...

Kind of seems counter-productive to the league's player safety campaign. 42-yarders are no laughing matter, and adding an extra 50-60 of them on top of the regular load of field goals could lead to some overuse injuries, not only in games, but also in training camps. Plus, it's a good idea in the Sept-Oct months, but once Nov rolls around you start placing the outcome of games into how bad the weather is. Extra points are boring, but leave them as they are.

Aye - the Gaelic/Aussie version is quicker than Rugby Union, and Aussie Rules is played on an Oval pitch (because they're usually Cricket grounds). And in Rugby you can't pass the ball forward, but you can in the others.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Gaelic_football_and_rugby_union

The Irish also have a game called Hurling, which is the same pitch and rules as Gaelic football, but the ball is the size of a golf ball, and the players have cudgels to hit it (and sometimes each other) with. Maybe Goodell should let players bring their own choice of weapon into the game? Bloodbowl, anyone?
