I like the game the way it is. Wish people would stop screwing with it.

Completely agree. Unfortunately Roger has been tweaking it for years and in a decade or two it won't even be close to what it once was.

Are teams allowed to line up for an extra point, and instead go for the 2 pts?

Instead of moving the kick back, how about reducing the number of players on each side from 11 to 10 (or 9).
The slightly shorter wall of linemen might be enough for the edge rushers to get a finger on the ball.

I see no need for any "extra points". If you score you get 6 points or 7 points or however many points, and then you kickoff.

That would be called a fake extra point and it is legal. I really don't think I have ever actually seen it outside of a muffed snap.

I just think they should leave well enough alone. It's been that way since probably the first TD ever was scored. Forget about appeasing the masses for a moment and go with tradition. Then again I'm old school.

The trend to satisfy the current generation's lack of patience is affecting too many things, including the NFL.

Just go to Amazon and look at Hasbro's "2013" updates to all of the classic games. They're completely redesigning them to speed everything up because many people don't have much patience anymore. The "Clue 2013" edition takes over half of the spaces off of the board and adds an extra dice, so, you know, you don't have to get bored moving your pawn between rooms because they're far away from each other. We bought "Sorry! 2013" and they've done the same type of thing by reducing requirements to move a pawn onto the board, making it so you only have to get 3 instead of 4 to the home circle, and adding "fire ring" bonuses so you can zip around the board faster.

The current masses have been catered to by so much fast paced action in everything that there doesn't seem to be much patience for the "less exciting" but not necessarily less important aspects of modern entertainment. If a TV show has a great story but isn't super faced paced, it's considered boring by many.

    Ok, rant mode off </rant>

I agree that they should leave it alone. It might be a gimme, but so what. There's still the chance for a fake, a foot slip, a block, or botched snap, even if rare.

Completely agree. Quit trying to make the real game into a video game with dumb rules. I love my video games because it is a nice break from reality but leave it alone. The game does not need a bunch of new gimmicks to increase viewership. I would rather have them figure out and define pass interference, offensive holding and what can and can't be challenged. Those are bigger issues in today's game vs. a one point kick...

I concur with the posts here. I'm not sure why Goodell insists on changing the game so much--then again, maybe I do: as steelinohio says, this is about the new set of fans.

Hey, Roger, while you're at it, just go ahead and ban the running game, since it's too boring to watch a RB carry the ball for a two-yard gain. Let's make it 100% passing. No more RBs on rosters. It seems Goodell won't be happy until every game is an Arena League 63-56 final score.

This is the main reason my interest in the NFL is deteriorating. The other: the stupid uniforms that NIKE has been trotting out. Anyone see the new Bucs uniforms? Good God...

I hadn't, but I just looked it up after reading your post. Is this the one?

Do those numbers have LEDs in them? (I know they don't, but I swear it looks like a video game scoreboard number or something).

Wonder if people complained when they started allowing the forward pass? I don't mind a little tinkering as long as its not overdone.

move the two point conversion to the two yard line. only give a team 2 points for FG's from the 30 or closer. give them 4 points from 50+.

I think a TD should be worth 7 points, and then the kicker has to intentionally miss the 19 yarder to retain the 7th point. If he inadvertently makes it, the point is removed taking them back to 6 points.

Hey, this is no more ridiculous than most recommendations.

I think they should remove all the pads, make them wear shorts, give them a round ball, tell them they can hit the ball with any part of their body except for their hands and the only way they can score is by getting the ball in a net...

And put someone in front of the net in and give him ridiculously large gloves.

C'mon, man...this is football; not French Vogue. And the uniforms should reflect that.

Praise to Alabama, Penn State, Ohio State...and the Raiders and Cowboys and for not forgetting that fact and apparently rejecting Nike's attempts to make players look like clowns.

harder extra point doesn't bother me, it could make the game more interesting.

More playoff teams, longer season, more games in Europe etc. bother me, because they will drastically alter the game, excitement and quality of the sport.

No no no, I agree with you on the uni's. The traditional basics are the best. That Bucs uni looks like ass. Gimme Pittsburgh (or course), Dallas, Oakland, NYG, Indy (sweet), SF, GB, and SD everyday of the week.

I like the 42 yard XP. Why not make it less of a gimmie and encourage the 2pt?
