Why though... why keep both? In your opinion, what would benefit the team more? Having a 13.59 million dollar back up LOLB, or clearing 26 million worth of cap space over the next two years? I just don't see it. He is worth more to us off the roster than he is on it. At some point you have to make decisions like this that will sting a little at first, but benefit you immensely in the future. The writing is on the wall for Woodley (and for other older Steeler defenders as well).

no where do i see where i said LETS KEEP BOTH... allllllllllllll i said was KC said "we have money to keep both"... and i think he knows far better if we should or should not keep one or two or who we should or shouldnt keep in general then ANY of us with the exception of maybeeeeeee TTF... but we only see whats on the field.. we dont see what they bring to the table off the field and in the clubhouse ... i have learned a longgggggggg time ago.. dont second guess the steelers FO ... 90% of the time i would end up looking like a fool...they are damn good at what they do and have been for 40 years

since there are no olb pass rusher free agent , i would try to trade woodley , maybe a desperate team ....could rework his contract and send us a 4/5rd pick

Fair enough, I misjudged what you were implying. I wasn't second guessing the FO though, or saying I know better than our GM. I was just playing GM online with some other online GM's on the same site haha I'm sure our FO will make the correct decision.

i'd think carter is on the chopping block. woodley would be much cheaper to cut after june 1 in 2015 and split that money in two years. colon also comes off the books in 2015. it also gives them another year to get JJ playing the right side better and any draft pick they may get at OLB a year in the system. worilds age may have had alot to do with this wanting to keep him so bad. lamar will at least backup both sides. it keeps stability while the young D-line catches up too. if woodley knows he's got one year to show us or the league what he's got. we could benifit from this for a year. i think the extra 10 mil. in cap space was just what we needed for this all to happen.

now we deal with ike, troy and the DB's. cutting carter and curtis brown save us about 1.3 mil. now we can make some other moves as far as extensions and gain what we may need for this year.

The most likely scenario sign Worilds to a long term contract with a big signing bonus low salary the first year maybe a 5 yr 35 million contract. Cut Woodley after June 1st.

Exactly. Getting rid of Woodley this year is a bad idea, IMO. I have a feeling he will have a good season too, Troy finally stayed healthy after altering his training routine, maybe Woodley will too, if he's on the field, he will help us.

If we end up signing Worilds to a long-term extension, it's hard to envision Woodley being here past June under his current contract. Given his limited production for the past 2 1/2 seasons, there may be room for a salary reduction that saves us a good chunk of cap space while still being a better deal for him than he's likely to get elsewhere if he is cut. There's near zero chance that he comes anywhere close to what he's making here if he's cut, and his agent will know that.

I am hoping that something like that can be worked out. I'd rather be OLB rich than OLB poor.

One question, where do you see Woodley getting on the field? With Worilds signing the tag (and presumably getting a long term deal) he is the starting LOLB... Do you rotate Woodley with JJ? Maybe, but I don't see that happening.

JJ has a lot of work to do, if Woodley is indeed back for another season, it will be Worilds and Woodley starting with JJ coming off the bench. JJ hasn't earned anything yet.

I know everyone is down on JJ, but he had 40 tackles last season. To put that in perspective, that was more tackles than Worilds had in any of his first 3 seasons.

I have high hopes for JJ, I just don't think he should be handed the starting job. 40 tackles is nice but he was primarily drafted to pressure the QB, we need that most of all from our LB's.

Technically, JJ earned the starting ROLB spot out of camp last year lol but I'm just ribbing you there. I agree that JJ has work to do, but that doesn't mean that he won't get better. IMO, we should go with the younger, cheaper player who seems to have some upside and give him a chance to get better. To me, that sounds like a better idea than playing an injury prone has-been out of position just to get him a starting spot. I think this will be a moot point eventually though. While we technically have enough money to keep both players, we probably wont. There is just too much cap space to be had by clearing Woodley out one way or another.

Once again I must ask, Do you feel
Worilds is worth lets say 35 mill over
5? What has he really done in his time here
to get this type of money? And you wonder
why we are 8 and 8 with a FRANCHISE QB.
This percieved contract MUST be INCENTIVE
LADEN , We saw what happened with LAMAAR.

Hope he does a heck of a lot better then he did last year then, because right now, Woodley is better then him. Will be moot though if they don't keep him.
