Yeah, this is definitely a "slow news day" posting for sure :lolol:

I thought about that before posting it, but there isn't a whole lot else going on right now. Just makes me appreciate the Rooneys' character even more to hear little things like this.

LOL. I know. I can't wait until something good comes along that we can talk about .. Draft day is fast approaching.

I have alot of respect for the Rooneys as well.. For the entire organization for that matter. I always tell people if I was not a steeler fan for some reason I would choose a team that has a good track record with
how they handle themselves. I think it would probably be the Colts :)

There's no place for any of that in this world much less sports. You can try to rid the sport of it and it would be a good thing in my opinion, but try and convince those that will take up the torch and cry foul because for some reason or another the word itself seems to have been accepted culturally. It's also a slippery slope for everyone else with a hand in the pile. Too many cultures/religions/sexual preferences/or just bad humored individuals to police in all reality. Praising god by pointing a finger in the air or thanking him after the game will lead to lawsuits by the offended etc...

In a perfect world this would be a nice addition to the rule book, but in a perfect world it wouldn't be necessary. Its just gonna turn into an unfairness thing with a lot more flopping on the he said he said and lead to more ref hating by the players and fans. They couldn't even get a mic'd up coin flip to go without controversy. Watch and see what happens if a penalty flag is thrown for a derogatory word or statement.

They got got a battle on their hands, but I appreciate the Rooney's for trying to clean up the B.S.

The most ironic and outlandish thing about the N word itself is all the African people that continue to throw the word around but as soon as a Caucasian uses the word they are immediately labeled a racist.

The double standard is both laughable and amazing.

Ryan Clark has something to say on every topic I don't pay attention to him anymore since he's not a Steeler.

I was pleasantly surprised when I read this. I'm glad Rooney made a stand on it. I don't personally like what the NFL is trying to do in terms of penalizing teams for using the word on the field. There's already too much grey area officiating IMO.

Can't wait to hear the refs explaining why the flag was thrown! " Unsportsmanlike conduct. Calling opposing player a N.........." The Mel Brooks scene from "Blazing Saddles" comes to mind...

lol, I'm not a fan of the word, but limiting speech leads to tyranny. First they came for the NFL, and I was not in the NFL...

Yeah, I didn't mention in my original post, but I'm not a fan of a penalty for it, either (I was mainly just glad to read what Rooney had said). I can just see it now; flag, "unsportsmanlike conduct!" "What do you mean, I only called him Sugar"

Seems to me that this is covered by the taunting rule already.

Only an idiot can hear someone say the word and not know if it was used in a demeaning way or not. Not a fan of the word, mind you, but this is going a little nit picky to me.

I understand what they're trying to accomplish. I even support the goal. I'm just not sure this is the way to do it.

Mos Def not a fan of the word, but I'm definitely not in favor of the penalty by the nfl.
I do feel that that teams should take it up on their own to kind of set a policy about its usage.
Teams set their policies in all sports (Reds no earrings,Yankees no scraggly facial hair, Red sox beards mandatory) let it begin with the teams and I'm sure it would spread throughout the nfl. If I'm I understanding correctly ,this seems to be what the Rooneys are referencing. It could simply start out as a "CUSS JAR" type thing with in each franchise.

On a sidenote I applaud the NFL for threatening to move the Super Bowl from Arizona with the possible passing of that states bill about certain things. That's as deep as I'll get without pushing the envelope on this here boards rule.

Some words are used with so much frequency because we as humans are too lazy to have a broader vocabulary.

This issue aside, I disagree, simply because the NFL should be available to all of us. There are two sides to every issue, the NFL should stay neutral. Should this have turned out differently and the NFL actually moved the superbowl site within one year of the actual game, then the next time tax payers and a municipality are asked to build a stadium with their tax dollars, they may look at these actions by the NFL and say no thank you. Next thing you know, teams are moving from city to city, eroding the fan base.

    SOON TO ADD
    Buffalo to Canada
    Jacksonville to England
    and
some one from somewhere moving to Los Angeles AGAIN.

sure there might be more teams who moved and ERODED FANBASES

I like that! Just confused on how a vetoed bill in AZ has anything to do with the original topic.
