Colbert already came out and said theres a good chance they will be a little more active this year in an interview(s) over the last week or so. But its not a huge surprise...as some have speculated this for months. I'm all for getting some decent/reasonable priced pieces to the puzzle via FA.

Colbert also said the draft class this year was the deepest he has seen in his 30 years. I would imagine this means alot of attention will be paid to the draft more then free agency?

    I dunno .. I am asking

Sounds like they're going to be more active in Free agency than previous years regardless of how deep the draft is. Seems that we have more needs than draft picks.

he also added its the most immature draft. he said a lot of attention will need to be paid to player development

Yep, beat me to it. Do you think that is an indication they will avoid those picks? Given the urgency needed to have players produce sooner rathe then later?

I think it may limit some later picks at some positions. maybe we won't take two corners as most think. maybe we get an O-lineman that munch won't have to do a lot of work with. I got a feeling our new safety may come from this group too. not saying we wouldn't draft one but maybe not as high a priority as we think.

mostly it depends on where the money can give us the most bang for our buck. corners are expensive if you go for a good starter. safety we could possibly get a guy mid level cheaper and draft an extra corner. maybe a RB behind bell. the ravens are talking to a lot of top TE's and wr's and are not doing much with pita and jacoby jones. they are also not trying real hard to keep oher and some o-linemen. time will tell, but I hope they use this extra money wisely.

I will believe it when I see it instead of bringing back retreads all the time like Gay, Spaeth.

I really don't think Rooney said anything in the article that he wouldn't have said in previous years, i.e. we're going to try to improve our team, there's some interesting free agents out there, there are positions we want to improve, blah, blah, blah, etc. What Colbert said seems to be a little different. He explicitly stated that the Steelers will be more active in free agency this year. We shall see.

Perhaps not retreads, but I'm still not going to expect FAs being brought in who are much above that level of talent and salary.

I really do or I don't think he would have said it. I think they will look for guys who will come in and be contributors right away. I think last year they thought jones, bell, and the comments they made about Williams being a leader and ready to play made them easy picks.

I know that we worry about our cap situation, and we will add guys to the top 10 paid salaries, but we will be losing some guys soon who are contributing to our salary cap situation.

In our top 10: Woodley, Ike, Troy, and Levi Brown....They account for over 40 million toward our cap hit. Levi gets us back under the cap almost, but he is only 6 million of it. The other 34 million is those 3 guys. Take them away and we are at 98 million of that 132 million projected cap. That is going to potentially give us some real cap space to work with. That time is NOT too far away.

Didn't mean to imply that. That being said....

    Brown is gone.
Woodley may be gone if Worilds is resigned, and I bet his cap hit is lower.
Ike is going to be asked to take a pay. If he doesn't, it wouldn't surprise me if he was cut.
Troy is probably back, but this coming year is his last (same with Ike)

If those above are all true, we aren't too far away from getting a great deal of more cap space even with some of the extensions we are about to give out.

Other then troy that is a real possibility. I keep is going to have to take a huge pay cut to stay here. Who know troy may find himself in a Harrison situation but I don't see that happening.

I agree, We haven't had any big signing
since Ryan Clark. And our drafts have
not been that great. So you wind up 8and8.
And not even remotely close to the talent level
that some of the teams have.WE NEED
    IMPACT PLAYERS. Not avg players.

With the salary cap being raised 10 mil can we trade some picks to the saints and parlay that 10 mil into jimmy graham? Man Big Ben would be tough with him.
Now he'd be a impact player!

Can never tell how serious you are with these types of posts but that's horrible. With all the needs we have, you want to giver away picks for Graham? As good as he is, no thanks, I'll keep my picks and take a TE in the draft.

    Isn't he a FA anyway?

I won't comment on trying to get Graham, but I believe they are franchising him today.

But yeah I was just kinda messin with yall
