That it's an offensive-minded, pass heavy league and we need to only focus on offense and not worry about defense. I'm thinking defense the first three rounds in the upcoming draft now. A stud CB and Safety in the first two rounds and an ILB or D-Lineman in round three. I may change my mind by the time the draft rolls around, but I'm feeling that way tonight for sure! Seattle plays defense the way we used to!

Beat me to it Jack, I was starting to get seduced by Denvers offense but defense still wins games.

Tonight's game was a stark reminder of that if nothing else. We've got the makings of a great ground game with Bell and the positive developments on the offensive line, now let's go build THE STEEL CURTAIN 2.0 BABY!!!

I agree. We need to build that defense now.

A great defense stops them and can score for you.

Its also just beautiful to watch

I honestly don't know whether to feel envious or nostalgic when I watch that defense.

They call this the copy cat league...so I'm thinking there wiil at some point be just be a huge run on DB's early on.

Speed kills. Seattle has it. Only
one team close to the hawks. SF.

We shall see next year. Those are the same things people said about the 49ers last year. Granted, they made Denver look stupid tonight, but they looked like they had no plan from the start!

One big difference between the Seahawks and us.

Lebeau has traditionally relied on LBers and the blitz to create disruption. They target the RB and the QB, and our secondary just has to keep the WRs in check. The Seahawks rely on physical play against receivers.

The refs routinely miss holding calls that stifle the effectiveness of blitzes (everyone knows that holding calls could be made on just about every play of any game). This keeps the ball in the air, which satisfies the league. But the Seahawks run a strategy involving pass interference not being called, which goes the other way (see strummerfan's thread on this).

So it's not just about personnel: it's about our point of attack.

I still believe it's an offensive-minded, pass-heavy league, but I do not, and never did believe, that we only need to focus on offense. Seattle won with youth, energy, and a good, cheap QB. All three aspects are proven to change for one reason or another. I'm still a defense guy, but last night was more of an aberration than a rule. I think having a potent offense gets teams through the regular season, but once the dance begins, the officials become more lenient and defense takes over.

The take-home message of the game last night for me was speed kills. Whatever we choose to draft, we need speed and athleticism. Hopefully that comes packaged with a burning desire to play the game.

The AFC was weak this year and it was kinda like the early 90's where whoever won in the NFC was going to win the Super Bowl.

I have been shouting from the roof tops all year that defense wins championships. you mean to tell me that one game has changed everyones mind that quick?lol I have seen threads about not even worrying about defense. load up on offense. the sad thing to me about last nights game was. it showed me how far away we are. I didn't think we were but I hate to say it but seattle would have made us look a lot worse on both sides of the ball

Seattles young defense was built with low draft picks and undrafted FAs, whats important is having a head coach and GM that can evaluate talent, we don't have that key ingredient, so for us to build a young fast defense we need to have the head coach and GM who knows how to build it, we don't have that on board right now, all they are thinking about right now is how to restructure old players contracts. I expect to see another old and slow defense next year....

i'm not dismissing offense by any stretch. you build a team that's balanced. a good offense with a good defense. it's hard to juggle and for most of bens time here there has been a weak link at some section of the offense, but we have always had a good solid defense. you need to get good on both sides of the ball and then have depth. that's what seattle showed me. when their big guns at DB went out the next man up was just as good. that's depth and when we were winning we had that.

everyone seems to think we have arrived on offense, well I don't. we are one injury away at QB which goes without saying, LT if beachum goes down, wr if brown goes down, TE as we saw this year without heath. sure we need to rebuild a defense too, but you don't abandon the offense to do it. you stop having drafts where you have no players left from it.

I actually had a discussion here with a member at the beginning of the season about this and I said something to the effect that Seattles defense could beat Denver. But then Denver went onto have a ridiculous season and I didn't think Wilson and their offense would generate enough points to beat them last night. Should have stuck with my initial feelings.

Looking at Seahawks and 49ers have defenses ... Steelers are missing so much athleticism, speed and power, to even being in the same league with them.

I look at their linebackers and then look at ours. Jarvis is the only one that looks fast enough to even keep up with them. now Timmons is a freak and can run with any backer I think. maybe its the pads but our guys look 30 lbs bigger

Our speed in the middle of the field on defense is lacking, our safties are slow and Vince Williams is a good player, but he is a throwback run-stuffer, we need to think about upgrading him to a linebacker who can run with guys downfield.

I think that's the really incredible thing about it. Think about this for a second. They made a PEYTON MANNING team LOOK like they had no plan. We all know that Peyton probably watched more film than most TEAMS did all season just to get ready for this game and he came out there and looked like an absolute amateur against them.

I felt the same way. I think if the 9ers had been the NFC team there that they would've won too because they actually gave the hawks a run for their money IN Seattle and even beat them in SF.

Just can't help yourself can you :lolol:

We would have given them a harder time simply because Ben can move. Statue QB's are at a severe disadvantage against the Seahawks D.
