Does Kiesel REALLY have a couple of years left?

I love Da Beard but he will really have to work hard to keep that beat up aging body in the NFL for 2 more years. It's hard for him to stay on the field right now. 2 years and he will be another Deuce Staley.
    Am I wrong here?

Hard to say honestly. I will say though that I think this team needs him back next year, and I have no reason to think he won't be a solid contributor.

    'hard to stay on field'??

Could definitely use his leadership, besides the fact that he may still be our best D lineman.
    He still makes key plays.
As with Aaron, under-rated and will be tough to replace.

Yeah, I think he still can be a value to the Steelers for two more seasons.

I say he was still our second best dlineman this year. heyward played good late in the year or you could argue he was our best. I say one year at least

Aaron Smith was solid and is a good comparison. I just don't think at age 36 and 37 at the DE position in the NFL pans out too well. I love his leadership and fierce competitiveness but my optimism isn't there from a staying on the field stand point.

He actually played at a decent level last year. But the only way I bring him back is a one year, vet min deal.

That's my thought too, JA. Vet min, relatively small signing bonus.

TWO years I would say is a bit of a stretch. Maybe I guess I would ask if everyone thinks he will be STARTING for the next two years and if THAT'S what he wants to do would you still be on board with the two year thing?

That's what I would say. I just think 32 games for a guy at his age is a lot to ask for and especially given the fact that we've already seen a drop in qb pressure.

Kiesel is not the best D-lineman Heyward is. I would sign Kiesel for a 1 year veteran minimum and that's it.

Only bring him back at vet min for 1
year. I really doubt if his body will hold up.
Has been a very good player for the Steelers,
    but time does go on.

He's missed something like 16 games over the last several years. It's not like we're talking about him having Timmons' durability here.

he** yes. if the foot problem is healed up he's at a minimum the 2nd best we have at DE. i would sign him for two years over ziggy and by the following year the new guys move into the rotation more. williams and arnfelt. keisel can still do alot for this team.

No he doesn't have 2 years left in him. No we shouldn't bring him back at all, because if we do, Tomlin/LeBeau will start him and stunt the development of someone with more of a future. Keisel will be 36 years old next season. This team needs to quit relying on guys on their last legs. He was a good player for us, but it's time to move on.

I don't necessarily disagree with your main point, but who is that someone? There are a lot of question marks at DE right now aside from Cam.

Ziggy Hood and Al Woods are free agents. Will they be back? I can't see Brian Arnfelt being in the starting rotation any time soon and Nick Williams was still using a cane last I heard.

I don't know who, but as of 12 months ago Cam and Worilds were both looking like bad picks. Sometimes you don't know who can play until they actually get a chance. IMO Hood got more than his share of chances and just doesn't seem to be a good fit in our defense. It's hard for me to imagine a scenario where we re-sign him and not overpay. We should be able to re-sign Woods cheap since he'll be a 27 year old free agent with essentially a blank resume.

This team is 16-16 the past 2 seasons and no threat to win a Super Bowl. Wasting time on aging vets that won't be around or contributing by the time we're contenders again makes no sense to me.

Exactly. Can't just get rid of the vets for the sake of cleansing the roster of older guys, especially when they can still contribute. And still need depth. Keep him for 1 more year, then see after that.

I'm with you. Keisel has been a great player for the Steelers and he could still play, but it isn't going to help us. He doesn't have the physical skills at this point to make a real difference in a game.

This. If I was the FO, I would've already told him we've moved on. Love Brett, but its time to go.

We have McLendon and Heyward. Woods is a priority to be re-signed and I'd even re-sign Hood IF it is a cap friendly deal. Nick Williams and Brian Arnfelt are unproven as is Hebron F.

If Keisel could accept a cap friendly deal and a reduced role then I would bring him back on a yearly basis.
