Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette suggested that the Steelers should take a big WR like Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin in round 1, then take defensive players in the next 3 rounds. I agree with him then in round 2 take a CB like Keith McGill of Utah or Stanley Jean Baptiste of Nebraska, in round 3 take a safety like Deone Buchannon of Washington State compensatory pick. In round 4 take a ILB or DL.

Doesn't make much sense to me in terms of strategy. Why take a player in round one from one of the deepest positions in this year's draft?

I agree. a good wr with height that everyone seems to want can be had in mid to late rounds. Benjamin is not worth 15 pick. I don't like evans. he isn't polished enough for that high a pick. he reminds me of matt jones. you cant coach height I know but you cant coach lazy either

While I agree with your reasoning, I still believe Evans & Lee are extremely great prospects. Evans has been compared to Vincent Jackson while Marqise Lee remind some of Marvin Harrison. Now, I personally prefer Evans because I believe you can integrate him into our offence very easily. He is the type of weapon we lack.

I'm actually in agreement with Dulac. WR in Round 1 then 3 straight defensive picks. Although, yes, there is a very deep pool of WRs and there will be a very good one left in Round 2.

What do you like better: CJ Mosley in Round 1 and Jordan Matthews in Round 2, or Mike Evans in Round 1 and Christian Jones in Round 2. To be honest, I would be ok with either, however, offense drives this league and I think Evans' numbers will always be better than Matthews.

I think they're great prospects, too. You guys are going to kill me, but if those are my two options, I choose the first option every day. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Evans. I think he'd create mismatches every Sunday, and he'd draw Alshon Jeffery comparisons like crazy. However, I'm very underwhelmed by Jones. I've watched several of his games, and what I see is a LB who's too easily pushed off his assignment on run plays. That, plus how often he hesitates and has to compensate for the bad angle.

I don't know if I fully agree about Evans' numbers always being better. Probably, but look how productive Matthews was with no name QBs throwing it to him. I know I've talked a lot about Jordan Matthews, but I don't mean to. I think there's a handful of receivers (big and small) that would be productive here. Allen Robinson would be a great addition, but I think the team could just as easily go for a mid round speedster like Robert Herron. After all, this team has a habit of letting fans down when it comes to not choosing the big, strong receiver. :D

It makes sense to me because these two guys are probably the biggest WR in the draft and they are playmakers, also they're both more talented than the guys going in the second round. They both offer mismatches and could be redzone targets. if the Steelers don't draft Benjamin I could see the Jets or Ravens taking him. I like Benjamin because he has leaping ability at 6'5 not too many CB's can cover that.

Our strategy will depend on who is available at our spot, but I do think that the intention in the first round is that we're coming away with a WR or a CB. We definitely need more help on defense, so 3 out of our top 4 picks going that side of the ball would make sense. IMO, the only WR's worthy of pick 15 are Watkins, Evans and Lee and the only CB's worthy are Dennard and Gilbert. Ha Ha will be in the discussion too, as will Mosley.

I wish I knew what was going to happen at a couple of positions or what the FO thought about some of the younger guys from this year. What do they think about the 3 young receivers? What about the ILB youth that we had? What are they going to do about the O and D Lines? What about the older vets at the CB and S position? What are they doing about Woodley and Worilds?

I honestly have had a hard time determining what they strategy should be at this point. I most likely think they will do what they always do. They will make a list of guys they can't pass over, prioritize their needs, and then adapt the strategy from there.

Completely agree. In reality, none of us know at all what the FO plans. Just look at ILB. I see it as a HUGE need. But maybe the FO thinks Spence can come back from his injury. Maybe they have alot more faith and reasoning in V Williams than I do.

you have to add garvin in the mix at ILB too. much less of a need position with two young guys getting valuable expierience last year. i think RB is a need. behind bell we are very thin. left tackle is thin. safety we have thomas and golden and ventrone. cb. OLB we have carter and westerman if they keep him. WR could be a need but we have alot of guys going to be in camp at that position. a young TE. at least at ILB they have molls, garvin and spence as possibilities now. tough call right now at some other spots until we know who they try to keep, but LT is thin. center is thin.

I guess I am just in the boat of feeling we need to wait until the combine to really get a feel for where we are at, but even then the youth questions will remain. NT and ILB in particular.
