Gerry dulac was saying in the Terrible Podcast show that Kirby Wilson wants to move on from the Steelers. Didn't sound like an opinion, sounded like he had a source.

I doubt Gerry's doing anything more than speculating about it.

Probably. Wilson should stick around, I have a feeling that if the Steelers do well next season, some head coaching offers will come Haleys way and Wilson will take over as OC. Find it hard to believe they wouldn't make the offer again.

Let him move on. He just doesn't seem like that special a coach to me and I think Tomlin's desire to stick him in the OC position has more to do with his personal feelings toward Wilson than Wilson's ability to do the job effectively. IMHO.

I really don't get the negativity towards the guy. What's it based on? How can anyone here know what his abilities are as an offensive coordinator?

Some laud Todd Haley for the success of the offense the second half of the year. Wilson reportedly helped with the offensive game planning, but doesn't deserve any credit? The Baltimore Sun wrote a piece on him this morning, and they recognize some of his contributions.

"Wilson coached rookie Le'Veon Bell, a bruising runner who broke Franco Harris' franchise record for yards from scrimmage in a season by a rookie. Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 1,000 yards twice with the Steelers with Wilson as his coach."

Who's going to replace him here if he goes?

Admittedly, I have no personal knowledge of Kirby Wilson's abilities. Like all fans, I read and I observe and I draw conclusions. I never understood what seemed to be the rush to install him as the team's OC to succeed BA. Why would he have been the automatic choice for the job had he not been burned in that tragic incident? Bouchette felt it would have been a foregone conclusion. I've said before, TTF, that my impression of Wilson is that he's a rah rah guy who would not be a great fit as an OC that's charged with developing effective offensive schemes and gameplans. He's okay as a position coach but the Steelers rushing attack has been nothing to write home about under his tenure and I DON'T want to get into another debate about how it's all on the offensive line. If you coach a certain position on the football team YOU are responsible for their performance. I get it that Mendy rushed for 1,000 yards twice, but if a decent RB stays healthy for an entire 16 Game season it's hard for them NOT to rush for 1,000 yards today. His YPC was never anything to get excited about. And this year's team YPC at 3.5 was under the line. I'm not trying to be negative about the guy but these are the opinions I've developed about Wilson over the last several years. I know many disagree and that's fine.

As an aside, it absolutely amazes me that the position is vacant because the former OC of the Rats, Jim Caldwell, got another head coaching job with the Detroit Lions. The Rats offense took a major step back this year ranking 29th overall. I thought Caldwell rode Tony Dungy's coattails to a head coaching job in Indy and was a terrible head coach. If we think Tomlin's deer lost in the headlights look is bad at times you haven't seen anything until you've seen Caldwell's. With some former head coaches it's easy to understand why they're getting another shot, Lovie Smith is a good example of that. But I'm very surprised that Caldwell is getting another head coaching opportunity. Josh McDaniels is another guy that I'm surprised about getting interest from teams with head coaching vacancies the way he butchered the Broncos when he was there.

It's true that the Steelers run game hasn't been dominant in the last several years, but we still averaged over 4 yards a carry with Wilson as the RB coach(up until Haley). He did that with an abysmal offensive line that's been repeatedly decimated by injuries in a pass first offense. It doesn't matter who the running backs coach is if the the line can't run block you're not going to have a dominant running attack. If anything the fact that we were averaging over 4 yards a carry should be a testament to his abilities as a positional coach.

Yeah Caldwell was MUCH closer to George Seifert than Tomlin. He didn't have Luck but still.

That's what I've been asking as well. What great rb coach candidates are out there? Maybe the guy that coached AP if Minnesota did a complete overhaul?

    In Wilson's 6 years, we've averaged under 4 YPC, about 3.94 YPC.

    2008 3.7 ypc
    2009 4.2 ypc
    2010 4.1 ypc
    2011 4.4 ypc
    2012 3.7 ypc
    2013 3.5 ypc

As stated before in our pass first offense he averaged over 4 ypc. Once Mr Bring Back A Fullback Power Running Game Running Back By Committee savior of an offensive coordinator got involved our run game took a nosedive.
