I don't want this, but from Bleacher Report:

Report: NFL Has Power to Force 8 Teams to Do 'Hard Knocks' in 2014

    By Kyle Newport

The National Football League has had trouble in recent seasons getting teams to participate in HBO's Hard Knocks, but it reportedly has the power to force eight teams to take part in the 2014 edition of the show.
NFL owners passed a rule in October that gives the league the ability to force certain teams into participating, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapaport, per NFL.com's Around the League's Chris Wesseling.
The league will still ask for volunteers to do the show. If no team steps forward, the league will then choose from a handful of teams. Every team will be eligible to be selected unless it meets one of three exceptions:

    1. Teams that have a first-year head coach
    2. Teams that made the playoffs in one of the last two seasons
    3. Teams that have participated in Hard Knocks within the previous 10 seasons
Which teams are eligible to be selected by the league to do Hard Knocks in 2014? A Deadspin reader named Ryan, via Deadspin's Barry Petchesky, broke down the list of eligible teams:

    • Arizona Cardinals
    • Buffalo Bills
    • Chicago Bears
    • Jacksonville Jaguars
    • New York Giants
    • Oakland Raiders
    • Pittsburgh Steelers
    • St. Louis Rams
Here are the teams that cannot be forced into doing the show:

Of the eight teams, which would you like to see do Hard Knocks?

The Raiders... Should be good for the most laughs....
All the more incentive to make the play-offs, in the future, huh?
Hopefully, we will be spared by some team, that loves the spotlight, volunteering themselves...
    GO STEELERS!
P.S., If not for the fact that I think it would distract the team, I would love to get the "inside look" at the Steelers, that show provides.

I've actually never seen hard knocks, but I'd definitely watch it if the Steelers were in it. It'd be a interesting perspective for us Steelers fans. On that note, the Bears or Raiders should do it though.

As much as I'd enjoy it I don't think it will happen. Anyone who has watched the series knows that HBO likes certain types of storylines. Rookies trying to impress and gain a starter job over a veteran. Young QB's learning the ropes. An injured veteran trying to comeback from surgery to regain his form. Underrated camp invitees trying to last till the final cut. Raw project guys learning their craft. Drama they can sell. Will there be some if that in Steelers camp? Yes but not enough to make compelling TV. In all honesty I think the Rams would be their first choice especially given the strides their defense made the hurt QB the high draft pick. I just see more opportunities there.

Pretty telling that they need a rule to force teams "if no one volunteers." To me that means that they have had trouble finding teams to willingly participate in the past. If that is the case, why not scrap the whole idea?

Because that would simply be too logical.

I agree with thorn as well - St Louis will get it, I'd wager.

If the league has to force a team, it WILL be the Steelers. Count on it.

Most years, we would be on the list where they couldn't force us. And it's all about the ratings...

It's been discussed here before. I think we had a long thread on it so it's not exactly breaking news!

I'd prefer that the Steelers weren't involved, but of course I would watch it. The NFL knows how big the Steelers following is so it seems like they would be a natural choice.

I am a Canadiens fan in hockey, and their 24CH show has been great to watch the past 2 seasons. The downside of the show is that you see the ineptness of the coaching staff and the complete lack of leadership from their "supposed" leaders.

I'd be really surprised if the Steelers were forced to be on Hard Knocks. I believe the NFL mainly wants teams who have a waning fanbase to be featured. If a popular team volunteers, fine, but if they have to choose, it's likely going to be a team that sells the least in the NFL fan shop.

Their ratings will go through the roof if the Steelers are choosen for Hard Knocks. I would love it as a fan but hate it for the coaches and players. I would actually get HBO just for them showing some inside news about our team.

I don't want this show anywhere around the Steelers. They don't need the distraction. Plus if we are learning inside info wouldn't other teams learn things also? I say they should stay far away from this circus. If they are forced to do it I would live to see the players clam up and refuse to talk around any camera from HBO. Give them the silent treatment.

I don't understand when fans say that it is a distraction. I'm sorry the cameras, the interviews, the looks at your personal life are a distraction? Wow however do they make it through the season with all the cameras and interviews and questions and looks at their personal life. The players who say it is a distraction are the ones who are worried because they have no say in how they are portrayed. These are the ones with carefully crafted images who don't want to worry about people seeing them as they really are when they let their guard down. It is a legitimate concern but belief that more cameras and interviews where there is already plenty is causing a distraction is ludicrous. Mike Wallace holding out for more money is a distraction more film coverage is a mild inconvience

It may be that it would take a bit of the mystique away from the team and the way the Steelers due business.

There are so many accounts of it being a distraction, I can't help but think it's a distraction. My viewpoint is basically this: our team has struggled enough the past two seasons...we don't need any extra distractions or competitive disadvantages.

As a fan, of course I'd LOVE to see the Steelers from the inside so up close and personal, though, I'd absolutely hate all the stupid sensationalism that got spun out of every perceived slight from Todd Haley towards Ben or vice versa.

I'd watch it. In fact I hope they are chosen so I can watch it. As far as being a distraction or revealing some important team secrets/etc...... not really.... I distraction, to a degree yes but so is local media, fans at camp etc. its a part of life, their life, and something they better get used to, after all, if they can't handle that kind of attention they'll NEVER survive Superbowl week!!!!

Also the team would never signoff on something vital or secretively important being aired that would cause unfair advantages for the teams we will be playing.

The Ravens were in the playoffs last year. They can't force a team if they made it in 1 of the last 2 seasons.

If the league was smart...it would force the Steelers to do it....they have a HUGE fan base...so ratings would be high....and the Steelers would never volunteer on their own....and out of the teams on that list...they are least likely to be on it again anytime soon.
