    I doubt he is going anywhere, he hasn't stuck around this long to jump ship now, not when he is so close to getting the position here. Also, Steelers can deny permission for an interview.

    Maybe maybe not but I'd like to see him be the next DC here. I've maintained all along that learning under DL can't be a bad thing. I'm sure the man has some original thoughts in his head, things he liked to try, mix it in with some of the things he has learned from DL, could be good.

    Butler has put his coaching career on hold long enough, he needs to tell Rooney he is ready to interview for a DC job, Lebeau doesn't know when it's time to retire and allow a younger coach a chance to showcase his coaching ability, so it's time for Butler to say, enough is enough.............

    I don't know why it's a forgone conclusion that Whiz getting a head coaching job=Butler going to be his DC. People were saying this a week ago when he was the leading candidate for the Browns job. Horton is their DC...

    Who knows if Whiz is definitely going to switch to a 3-4?
    Who knows if he doesn't have a specific DC/other candidates in mind? Seeking permission for the Cardinals gig was a long time ago.
    Who knows if the Steelers will let him?
    Who knows if Butler wants to go now?
    Butler has waited all this time. He probably knows better than most when and if LeBeau's job is his.
    Etc etc etc. A lot of assumptions. Bottom line, we'll have to wait and see. :smiley1:

    If I had my way DL would stay on staff one more year, with Butler doing the coordinating mostly, allowing Butler to have DL as a resource, but with Butler running things. Next year....it is Butler's defense.

    Ed Bouchette wrote today that if the Titans do want to interview Butler, the Steelers will give their permission. Does anyone think that if it appears Butler may be jumping ship for a DC role somewhere else, the Rooneys may put a little subtle pressure on DL to go ahead and hang 'em up?

    Yeah, I saw that too. I also saw that if Butler leaves, Lake would be considered to replace him, he's kind of raw but having him as DC is appealing to me.

    And that's just tough. Butler is under contract with the Steelers through the 2014 Season.

    Not according to this he didn't.
    "It would be Whisenhunt’s second such request. When he first went to Arizona he asked the Steelers if he could talk to Butler and they turned him down. They are expected to turn him down again."

    Tom: Is Butler going to Tennessee?

    Ed Bouchette:     I've been in a meeting but as of late this morning, no one from the Titans had asked permission to talk to him. It is my understanding now that if they do ask permission to talk to Keith Butler, the Steelers will give it to them.
