Game of Thrones (HBO) - Time to jump on board

The Mountain needed to be recast. Conan Stevens was great in season 1, but he's no longer with the show. They used a placeholder "mountain" in season 2. Ian Whyte is extremely tall, but skinny. He's built more like a basketball player. They need a juggernaut. Especially for this session as the Mountain becomes fairly important. The new guy will do just fine. Bonus that in costume with facial hair, he strongly resembles Conan Stevens.

I have no idea why Daario was recast. HBO isn't saying either.

The first 35-40% of A Dance with Dragons coincides with the timeline for A Feast for Crows. So there's no need to break them apart for the show. Shuffle the chapters together in one HUGE book, and you get seasons 5, and 6. Although, I do expect them to use a tiny bit of that source material this year too.

The reason those 2 books were split apart like that is that GRRM let the story get out of hand and his "fourth" book turned into a monstrosity that the publisher couldn't possibly put out there. An over 2200 page book is not feasible. So they gave him a choice: split the book in half by timeline, or split it up by character chapters. He chose the latter which is why AFFC has no Tyrion, Dany, and very little Jon Snow. And why ADWD has very little Cersei, Jaime, Brienne, etc until the later half of the book. He went that route because the pacing of the story didn't give an obvious break to cut it in half. And it gave him more time to fix some issues he was having with the other characters fitting in place correctly (a problem he called "The Meereenese Knot").

Since the show is an adaptation, and not a 100% faithful, word-for-word, scene-for-scene show, they'll have an easier time finding those "breaks." Expect books 4 and 5 to flesh out at least 2 full seasons, probably 3.
