i can't say they committed to taking a pick, but it sure as heck sound like that was the intention! I'm sure they'll move forewArd and not address the issue either way, as we ultimately cost the rats their playoff spot?

terrible call and afterwards apologies are fine for reaffirming, but let's see if the league plays fair or continues to grind its axe with our team!!!

Because the other teams fighting for the #6 seed were also (or should have been) 8-8?

Yeah, not really understanding that statement, SBD. Our record is irrelevant in regards to what happened in that game. Bottom line, they should have gotten another try at a closer FG, they didn't and therefore we got screwed. This is so black and white, there is nothing debatable about it.

Yep and the more I think about it in relation to what happened to Tomlin, the more pissed I get.

Its just flat out bull**** that they are going to take away a draft pick because of the potential impact that play had on the game/playoffs/draft, but won't do a thing about the refs missing something so simple as counting to 7 and how it impacted the game/playoffs/draft. Regardless of is Suck-up makes or misses the next attempt, he should have at least had the chance.

Because they did get screwed. Also in OT the line of gain was not made
The defender beat off the big backs and scored
Guys helmet came off after change of possession
Worst case suckerball kicks a good FG non timed down in reg
    OR
Suckerball kicks the game winner in OT cause sd had the ball and lost it
    Or KC scores a TD
8-8 got nothing to do with Sunday's game

A play on words when we said we needed a big back who could beat off defenders. Ha-ha

I agree, but still would have liked to see KC win the game.

Of course but should have NEVER put ourselves in the position of having to depend on another team to win a game for us.

We after all are THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS.....We take care of our own business.

The refs screwed the game up. We definitely should have taken care of business way before that game. Hopefully the league will look into these officials and this don't happen again.

I can promise you something similar will happen again, and again, and again.

We can only hope to not be the victim next time. ;)

I thought the officiating was bad a few seasons ago when we had subs filling in and everyone couldn't wait (including myself) until the regular officials came back. I think this season was worse by far. Terrible job by the officials this season, and not just Steeler games either. There were plenty of instances this season that showed how poorly the officiating was. Totally abysmal.

I disagree with you on this one, the replacement refs experiment was a joke and the flow of the game was destroyed because they had to conference half the time to figure out what the call should be. I'm sure they would have gotten better but in the end they wouldn't have been any better then what we have now so why bother going through the growing pains while they learn? Better the devil you know.

BUT this season was officiated by full time refs and not scrubs like before. You can sort of give the scrubs a pass for not officiating at this level full time, but the buffoons this season can't say that.

But thinking back at it a little more now I will agree that the scurb refs slowed the game down to a point where it was almost unwatchable. That wasn't the case this season, but I feel like this season the refs blew enough calls and outcomes to at least rival the recent replacement ref season.

I think the perception is that the officiating was abysmal based on a small percentage of bad calls/non calls. Do you ever sit down and think about all the calls the officials called correctly? Fans typically only remember the bad calls/non calls. I believe the officials get most of the calls correct. What would you think if the officials got 80 to 90% of their calls correct?

Name one sport where the officiating is perfect? Boxing, Basketball, Baseball, Football, none of them will ever be perfect, the human element cancels out perfection, calls are missed in every sport, and bad calls are made in every sport, always has been this way, and it will always be this way............

Exactly. People need to accept the good with the bad, ie the Steelers received their fair share of calls over the years. The Steelers also had their share of calls go against them. They have a way of balancing out some times.

There probably some calls that shouldn't be missed, ie 12 men on the field is the most vivid in my mind because Cowher stuffed the photo in the refs pocket. The human element to make mistakes is always part of the equation. Some fans can't accept it and move on. To some extent I feel sorry for those fans.

There's nothing to really look into. The refs made a bad call. The fake punt for the 1st is a judgement call and I can see how they screwed that up. The FG was simply a missed call. There's supposed to be a ref that accounts for those kinds of things, but it was missed. Similar calls are going to happen again because we have humans making the calls. Unless technology takes over completely, there's going to be bad calls and missed calls.

What I hope the league does is give responsibility for procedure penalties to a guy in the booth, as well as a ref on the field. Also allow challenges for PI calls. The NFL also needs to look at shrinking the rule book, it's gotten far too complicated.

You think fans, players, or coaches will be happy about that? Conspiracies theories and the fix is in abound. The official in the booth is just as prone to making mistakes as the official on the field.

I suppose the rule book could be shrinked or less complicated. I guess the rule book got that way because of the speed of the game and the various issues that take place at different points of a game.

I've reached the conclusion that imperfect humans are going to make mistakes regardless of the circumstances. As fans we just have to live with the results and move on. Our lives are much bigger then the game we follow.

But it hasn't been this way. That's the point. This season was spectacularly (?) bad imo, with missed/botched calls galore.

This as well. In defense of the refs, i think this is a part of the issue right here.

I do as well. But this season I have seen more blown calls than I can ever remember. And it seems it's been during pivotal situations an awful lot compared to seasons past. Like i said above, I also attribute the rule changes and lack of clarity imo on certain calls to part of the problem as well.
