Gooddell is a lame anti contact, no physical, certain QB(s) caressing commissioner that I believe if he had the option of them playing waste deep in a swimming pool in order to prevent injuries he'd probably pass it.

Could imagine if some unheard of cast away guy sacked Brady or Manning and then jammed a thumb in their bum in HD? They'd be in jail.

    this kid has stepped up.

Cody Wallace is the guy that has brought some nastiness to that oline that a lot of people have been asking for.

hes also the guy that has anchored an oline that has finally produced its 1st 100 yards rusher in 23 games.

at this point i would rather see them resign Velasco use Wallace as the backup and either move Pouncey somewhere else on that line or trade or release him.

i dont think its a coincidence that the oline has made a steady improvement this year in his absence.

im not saying hes the problem, but he might not have the same chemistry with the rest of the oline as these other guys do.

not all great players make their team better. im also not sold that Pouncey is a great center. i think he had a good rookie year and the legacy of Steelers centers brought more attention to him than was probably deserved. i dont think he has matched his rookie year since either.

its hard to argue that this oline has been better without him.

there are many reasons the line is better and its not because pouncey isnt in the lineup...

first they are really buying into jack bicknells system...he doesnt get nearly enough credit for helping the turnaround

Gilbert has really adjusted well to the RT spot... he has improved tons since the beginning of the year

Decastro who missed his whole rookie year except for a few games...and also is essentially a rookie this year has finally started to become the player we drafted

    Foster has been decent

Beachum has really taken over the LT spot...i think it has more to do with the tackles and the development of decastro then not having pouncey

to say they would be better off without a top 5 center in the league is not true...

saying the chemistry is better with their 2nd LT and their 3rd center doesnt make sense

I've always thought Pouncey is overrated, but when healthy, he is still the best member of the line. Beachum/Velasco/Pouncey/Decastro/Gilbert I have no problem with.

i guess im spoiled after watching Webster, Dawson and Hartings for the better part of 25 years. Pouncey is not in that class and i just dont see him as a top 5 center. maybe top 10. i think Valasco stepped in and was better and the rest of the oline played better with him.

Next year's line should look like this: Draft Pick/Pouncey/Velasco/DeCastro/Gilbert

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to trading Pouncey. Maybe Miami is willing to overpay for him. I'd take a second or a third. He's probably gonna leave after next year anyway.

Personally I hope they keep all 3 of the current centers and find a place to play them. I like what each one brings to the table. I would like to see Pouncey at LG due to his mobility and Velasco at C. Then see if Wallace can play any other position besides C. But the improvement the OL has had since the beginning of the season has been very good considering they lost their main signal caller and the best player on the line week 1.

I agree, but would still like to see us go after someone to challenge Beachum's spot. I'll be overjoyed if he is the answer at LT, but still not convinced.

not sure why all this gilbert love either. he can't pass block worth a shat.

for the money, give me Wallace, velasco, beachum re-signed to a 3 year deal. DD has looked a lot better.

embernate,is RT,RG,LG capable so he will be in camp. hubbard, was a 4 year starter at LT in college. they have put him at guard only. he's worth bringing to camp again.

adams is still workable at RT, I think. camp will decide that.

get rid of foster, pouncey and gilbert. pouncey is a good center, but I just don't believe he is great, nor do I think he will stay past next year. velasco and Wallace are close enough to pouncey and a heck of a lot cheaper. we could sign both for less than what pouncey costs.

add yankey in the first or boothe on the FA market and get rid of foster. dump gilbert and draft another tackle at 4 or 5. keep adams at least one more camp.

gilbert is a RT only and not great at that. that's my reason for dumping him. adams can at least move to LT in an emergency he played pretty well at RT last year, so that at least gives him another look. the staff won't even put gilbert at LT, after naming him LT at first and trying him there. total failure. even when they knew adams wasn't ready for LT duties yet, they still made the move. that should tell you something. a bad draft pick in the 2nd round by Colbert that year.

I have impressed with Cody Wallace and the nastiness he brings to the O line.
Pouncy overrated but okay. Not much difference from Wallace, Pouncy and Velasco.

I'm not sure Pouncy is big enough to play guard. He is athletic and could move but is he powerful enough to play guard? If he could play guard then heck ya move him there and let Wallace and Velasco play center.

Although Bechum is doing okay I still don't think he is the long term answer at LT. He is a good back up swing lineman that could play multiply line positions and should be used that way. So we still need LT in the draft and that should be the only player we should draft for the offense. Then we need all defensive players in the draft.

They should check with this board as I believe we could draft a LT the could be better pick then what they did. Just kidding...

I am finding it hard to realize that people are basing the offensive line play based on 1 guy...

People saying the line is better without pouncey is ridiculous.... the reason why the line has looked better is not because of velasco, or because of cody wallace...they have played decent in pounceys absence, but are nowhere near the player pouncey is...
hes a 24 year old pro bowl center who can pull and get to the second level a lot better than velasco and wallace..sorry its the truth and people who believe we are better without him are fooling themselves

the collective unit has been somewhat healthy and has actually been playing a lot better as a whole unit and winning some individual battles...

Coach Bicknell has had a part in that as has the return of leveon bell...good lord

dont get me wrong..i loved the play of velasco and wallace so far

Yeah Jack but if you ever shake his hand, you may want to make sure you shake his right hand, no telling where the left just left, if ya know what I mean.

That is part of the problem he CAN pull and CAN get to the second level when most of his teammates can't or aren't athletic enough to follow suit. There is a reason why last season Legs looked better at center and why Velasco and Wallace do this year, they maintain their spot along the line and form the pocket. Pouncey does what he is coached to do look to the next level identify the next block and move into that level unfortunately no one else gets out there with him meaning he has just left a hole where a defender can get to the ball carrier. Not his fault he is executing what he is taught just the rest of the line can't. I think that is tailor made for a lead blocker though. Pouncey moves to the next level and the lead blocker can seal the other side giving the rb a lane or at least that is the way I see it. Mac and I had a short discussion about it earlier in the season if I remember correctly. Now if they aren't going to put more guys like Pouncey on the line, ones that can move, then it is wasted money to resign him, take one of the cheaper guys like Velasco or Wallace who fits the slow moving line you have and spend the money else where.

    Just to clarify...
I didn`t start this thread to bash "Dr. Cody"...
I just had no clue who he was, and I would say he has done a pretty decent job, for coming in as our THIRD starting center, this year, without even being on the team to begin the season...
Velasco, also did a great job, IMHO, until he got hurt.
That`s not to say either are better than Pouncey, but I would submit that they give us options...
And they sure did better than Levi Brown did at tackle(or guard, or whatever he was supposed to be, before he got injured during warmups...).. just as a point of comparison, for free-agents we brought in this year...
    GO STEELERS!

so since the rest of the line is not as good as our pro bowl center ...lets just downgrade the center to match the rest of the line....

No I didn't say that and I don't think that is what a majority of people are saying either. You of all people know what the cap situation is so the question becomes where do you save money. It is just like the Ben question can you build enough around him through the draft yo make a run before it is too late or do you try and hold the core together while replacing bits and pieces hoping to find that magic combo. Okay you want to keep Pouncey so he has to get a new deal where do you find the money? Then decide are you going to scrap two second round picks to find new tackles to play with your pro bowl center and your first round pick guard. How do you replace Foster? Draft or FA? You have plenty of holes do you spend five years trying to knock the oline into shape? Do they have time for it?
