I am always in favor of getting the 7 instead of kneeling and kicking....too much crap can happen...look we blocked a fg from the 5!

however if they would have kneeled and kicked the 3 ..they would not have had the chance to return the kick as the game would have been over ( i don't agree with this strategy)

actually if we win next week and get in at 8-8 we would be 8-4 in our last 12...not exactly limping

Like I said, it is all a matter of opinion. Whether someone "earned" something depends on many factors, personal beliefs, values, how a person was raised.

For the context of the steelers and the playoffs. If they win next week, balt, Miami, and SD lose, then they have earned it. OK? You are correct. Ya got me

Don't forget the 2-5 finish from last year. Pretty remarkable turnaround. There's still a lot to work on but they seem to be headed in the right direction. I'd love to see what we could do with a full season of a healthy, young offensive line and a strong running back.

    1. Had no problem with the fake punt.
    2. Had no problem going for it on 4th and 1.
    3. Had no problem with Ben throwing it on 1st down up by 10. Unfortunate result, but I like the aggressiveness.
    4. Had no problem with going for the TD in the last 2 minutes.

We were 6-8. Its actually refreshing to see our coaching staff not being so conservative in these situations.

I think we have deficiencies on both sides. While I agree that there is talent on this team the consistency is lacking because of injuries and the fact we have young guys learning the system ,especially on defense. It isn't coincidence that the O line is finally meshing and Ben is buying in to Haley's style of play that the O is taking off. They are still leaving lots of plays out on the field though. A better throw here or a catch there we would be even better. The same thing on the D they come so close to getting turnovers(ie Ike) but just not quite.

There are plenty of holes to fill and plenty of improvements on the coaching side that need to be fixed. Tomlin is still one of the youngest coaches in the league and I hope and think he's smart enough to realize the things he needs to improve on himself. You do have to like the fight that these guys are showing, even though it's going to hurt our draft placement. As a diehard it's impossible not to root for this team once that ball is kicked.

while I see both positives and negatives when it comes to this teams future. I have confidence we can get back to where the Steelers should be. My biggest fear is complacency. While it's great to be playing the way we are and building confidence for both the young and old going into next season. I surely hope it doesn't remain status quo. We have plenty of work to do. As Tomlin likes to say "we have miles to go before we sleep" .The future is never dark or bright, the future is what you make it.

How about this: With a bit more execution, this team, with all of its flaws, could have 3 or 4 more wins.
Titans - fumble going in for a touchdown, offense disappears for the next 12 quarters.
Vikings - too many turnovers, needed one more timeout for a chance.
Raiders - just stop that first run by Pryor and it may have been a different game.
Pats - tied game, and then...
Rats - score on Bell td, don't lose Velasco, convert on 2pt conversion
Dolphins - Brown on the sideline (though, the team had a lead and couldn't hold it, so take a 3 and out and score during the 4th quarter, the Brown play may not have to happen)

Before I am crucified, I'm not saying these would all have been wins, but clearly, a play here and a play there could have given this team 2 or 3 more wins, playoffs no question. 7th Lombardi, eh.

Have we forgotten how poor the defense has been this season? They have set records for how bad they have sucked. They came through yesterday finally to salvage the win. But they also gave up 31 points to Matt Flynn... Matt Flynn?!?!?! Rodgers would have seen nelson in the middle and connected for the TD at the end. Flynn sucks. And it does go directly to DL and lack of adjustment. So, we can point to things here and there that would have could have changed the outcome of some games. But the talent is there on D but they have epically underperformed. I blame that on coaching and lack of adjustments.

It's not just coaching. Ike has never been able to catch. Clark is not the same player he was. We need another ILB to compliment Timmons. Jones and Woodley out, the bench isn't that deep. The fix is not just coaching, it's new players.

Should they win next week, I think you could say that this team, after starting 0-4, came damned close to going 11-1 the rest of the way.

To add onto that, if the team doesn't have the players to run the system, then maybe they should try a different system? (Until they get players who do work well?) During last night's game, the announcers mentioned how Chip Kelly was going to design an offense that fit his players, rather than worry about who he was missing to get some particular system to work.

The defense is playing much better now that the younger players are getting the hang of the system. But every other AFC team with a winning record (except Denver) has allowed fewer points against.

Maybe there's that "x" factor missing which would have let us be 11-1.

For all the legitimate gripes about the lacklustre performances this season, there's also been a fair amount of mis-remembering that a lot of our previous winning seasons came down to very similar one or two plays a game...

Exactly. Go back to 2008 for Exhibit A, all the way through to the Super Bowl.

It is because of this narrow edge between winning and losing that I support the proposal of adding another wild card team. This was tossed out last year at the owners meeting and I suspect it will eventually happen. That way, a single play can't have as much impact over the course of the season. I suspect that in the end, the last AFC wild card slot is going to come down to an inch of AB's foot either way.

I agree (I don't want it) but there will be another wild card team added soon
I mean look at Arizona might miss the playoffs with a better record than any team in the nfc north OUCH!

green bay out of timeouts,1:25 on the clock,1st down.with 3 knees clock could have been taken down to :10 seconds.coaching almost lost the game along with bad st play.and i believe ben taking over calling the plays in the no huddle leaves tomlin and haley out of it,thus the inspiration.better execution and less time the defense is on the field after all of the tomlin/haley 3 and outs.perfect example was the cincy game, ben rolled in the 1st half with the no huddle.in the 2nd half tomlin/haley called the shots and the game became stagnant once again.its nice to see ben taking over the team again instead of the dunderheads on the sidelines.and thats the inspiration....,ben is doing it his way....

i dont agree.if tomlin/haley allow ben to guide the offense this team can play with anybody.and they can bring respect more to the north in the playoffs than the bengals can....
