    As was expected.

BTW - I can't really feel sorry for someone who makes about 80K a month.

Gavin makes about $41,000/month. After taxes that fine wipes out about one month of his take home pay. Let someone fine you 1/12 of your annual take home pay and then tell me it's not a big deal.

Thats STEEP. Fines should be according to income.

Exactly. I always find it petty when fans complain about what athletes make. Everything is relative, that's a lot for what he makes, nobody likes having money taken from them. Sure, you can say he shouldn't have hit him illegally, but I'm sure that wasn't his intention, the game moves fast.

The league really needs to start considering incidental contact. BS fine :bscow:

What are the chances that guys on the team all chip in to help him pay it?

I'd be willing to think some of the higher paid players might chip in.

The NFL should really consider scaling these fines based on earnings. 25k to someone like Woodley would be like taking away lunch money, but 25k on a min sal guy is significantly different.

Hell, Rooneys should pick it up just for seeing some good old fashioned Steeler hitting going on out there.

BS plain and simple. I wonder if the NFL has pink jerseys for kickers and punters on order yet?

I just wish they would tell them to kick and then run to the sideline
if you are out there you should be able to be blocked just like anyone else

Really, think about that for a second.... if you make the "defenseless player" go off the field after a pick or fumble..... we don't make it to the SB because Ben could have never stopped that Indy runback. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, just try not to hit players in the head.

What happens if the kicker lays the big hit?
    Is she getting fined?

    Nothing wrong with that hit.

Incidental contact should be taken into consideration, his initial blow wasn't to the head.

There is a pot for certain fines. Every team has one.

Exactly, he landed with shoulder, with never launching.

Kinda wrong that he even has to go through an appeal process. If they are only allowed to fine a certain amout then why did the NFL fine him over that to begin with.

OK. I hear ya. That is steep. It thought that he made about twice that. It's still very good money for the average Joe which most of us are but Gooddell definitely likes fining players and I wouldn't doubt that he has a very fat Swiss bank account by loop holing all the "Charity" money.

That's harsh, but we can't really be surprised. They're fining the result, not the play.

Give the guy a pay raise with a nice bonus at the end of the year. ;)

And the Bengals message boards blew up. "He should be suspended for life!!" They used to say the same thing about James Harrison but now they love him.

I wish the NFL would adopt what the NHL does and put out a video detailing what happened, what the rule is, why the gave out the fine or suspension and it covers everything a fan could ask for explaining it in such a way that you don't question what the decisions are. Im pretty sure we all think they use the dart board method when deciding these things.

Also take into account that this is a bubble special teams player that was a long shot to even make the practice squad. He has looked much better than expected so far and could stick around, but he also could easily be out of the NFL forever by 2014 or 2015. That would still be a lot of money for a year or two (in the big scheme of things, it's ridiculously overpaid), but compared to other players it's nothing. Most of the guys we talk about are set for life, and this fine money is nothing. Tomlin's $100K is ridiculous considering what he did, but he won't miss that money. It won't hurt him. If Garvin doesn't have a post-football career set to go, he's going to need every penny he makes here. $25K for missing the target by one inch on a play like that is absurd.

It's CRAZY that they don't just fine a percentage of salary. Completely unjust.
