So, crazy thought, could we extend Woodley for 1 more year and spread the signing bonuses out evenly, thereby reducing his cap hit this year should we keep him?

that's what i thought some weeks ago , we could extend him 3 more years without any additional s.bonus to spread it more , and then cut him in a couple of years when the dead money are reduce d. all of this make sense only if woodley perform otherwise is still a nother waste of money (since you have to pay him is base salary in those years

Looks like a Golden Eagle, and they get bigger, big enough to take small deer and other mammals. Really really cool!!!!

There's a article in the post by Gerry Dulac on why Woodley will NOT be back with the Steelers. Interesting........

This off-season will be interesting for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We already have somebody as in Markus Wheaten, unless they're looking to use him on the outside

So, looking at the numbers again, and thinking about them from a different angle (and using TTF's clarification on what is charged to 2014 and 2015 for a post June 1 cut), here is how I think the numbers work distilled down to with/without Woodley:

2014 pre-June 1 cut: Woodley's cap number for '14 is $13,590,000. If he's cut, the cap hit is $14,170,000. Therefore, if we cut him, it costs us 580k + the salary of whoever replaces him on the cap number calculation (so at least $1 million total). Obviously, it's not a good economic decision to cut him prior to June 1 because you add to his cap number. If you could trade him, you consider the cap impact vs. the trade compensation, but his performance the past 2 seasons makes it unlikely that anyone will pick up his salary IMO.

2014 post-June 1 cut: Woodley's cap number for '14 is $13,590,000. If he's cut, the cap hit is $5,900,000. Therefore, if we cut him, it saves us $7,690,000 in 2014 minus the salary of whoever replaces him on the cap number calculation (so figure around $7 million max in net savings).
2015 post-June 1 cut: Woodley's cap number for '15 is $14,090,000. If he's cut after June 1, the cap hit for '15 is $8,580,000. Therefore, if we cut him, it saves us $5,510,000 in 2015 minus the salary of whoever replaces him on the cap number calculation (so around $5 million in max savings).

Looking at the numbers this way, we would be stuck with a dead money charge of $8,580,000 for 2015. That sounds really big, but if you compare it to Woodley's cap number of $14,090,000, it no longer sounds big at all IF you think that Woodley no longer has value to us as a starting OLB. In that context, I think a post-June 1 cut is very possible, and may be the best decision for the team if they want to go with Worilds as the starter at LOLB going forward. The problem is that we will need to find the cap space to sign Worilds before cutting Woodley since Worilds will be fielding offers in March. Of course, I just woke up and am only starting on my coffee, so I could be wrong about the numbers. TTF will be able to tell.

Trades don't happen...especially for a center...we wouldn't get fair return for pounce...hes a top 5 center thats hard to replace...i know velasco did a good job..but the difference between the two was the 2nd level blocking..who knows what would have happened this year without the friendly fire from decastro

Clark is a FA his salary will be off the books no need to cut

i see .. so let's say 6 m for troy ,5 for ike ,8 for ben ,5 for miller ,5 for brown , the levi cut other 6 ,1 for foote 1 for foster

37 milion save ,we are 7over ..if everything go like this we could be 30 below at the beginning of free agency , of course this is the max we can work out our cap

You know we used to cut players before they cost us. The only mistake I remember doing that is Vrabel and maybe Chad Brown
I would like to see Troy, Woodly (the china doll) Clark and Ike all gone. Look at the young Dbacks on the rats??

I seem to remember someone on here wanting elam last year?:innocent: troy has to stay. he made it through the year so far and someone will have to be here to help with the influx of young guys. maybe they get real aggressive and cut them all and keep will allen as the vet? that free's tons of money. just sayin.

Curtis brown is one that should go and has been kept a year too long as far as I'm concerned.

troy would be 8 mil off the books

Ben, Miller, Brown, Foster not going anywhere...

i'm talking about what we will save by doings pay cut and restructuring the only straight cuts are foote and foster but looking at the number maybe only foote , basically the movement that should be done if we want sign worilds cut woodley and have money for free agency
