Let me ask an easy trivia question:
Who picks him up after we cut him June the 1st?

    Really easy, isn't it?

Well, as for me, I don't see him going anywhere. First, his production was great at times this year, and his slip in production may have been due to the fact the D line hasn't been ProBowl esque as in years previous. Remember A Smith and Hampton had a lot of attention, and add in Harrison and you didn't have enough blockers to account for all of them. Woodley will remain thru 2014, and will probably be asked to restructure? He may decline, and that could be interesting, but you cut him, and even over two seasons you have zero to show for him. J Dub will be seeking a hefty raise, and this team can't afford to pay everyone, so we will see. Wasn't long ago a lot on this board were bashing J Dub as a bust, and now, well, we see how he is getting some love. Gotta wonder if Woodley could play DE since Keisel is one of the players who def will be gone

Not my opinion, but what I think FO will take into account:
This guy will be 30 next season and seems to have trouble staying healthy.,
The gap between his playing abilities and his current substitute's is not as big as the gap between their salaries.

On the other hand, he's a proven starter, has contributed in clutch games and is one of the few leaders this team could have next year.

Whatever decision FO makes seems to have solid facts and arguments.

I realize he isn't the "official" guy but his track record speaks for itself. He has kept our aging guys like Ike and Farrior at the time ,plus others as well healthy and playing at a high level well into their 30s. He is also the guy who noticed something wrong with his stride. So yes there are plenty of trainers out there but so far whomever he has been using isn't working. So there should be no reason not to give Shaw a shot. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Well guess what it's broke again. It's time to start earning that money.

    Question about salary:

Earlier this year I heard a bunch that it would be more expensive to cut him than to keep him. Now I'm reading about how exactly we will hemorrhage our money, depending on whether we cut him before or after June 1st. Both seem like crappy options, and I understand we may have to choose one of them. So my question is, what will happen to our finances if we keep him next year? Will it be a financially easier cut in 2015, or an identical situation that we might as well get over with?

As far as the field goes, I'd love to keep him. His injuries are killing him, but when healthy I still think he's a great player, and we could seriously use the depth. Outside of frustration over his health, I don't get the hate he's been getting. Keeping him would buy Jones more time to acclimate, and help keep everybody fresh with rotations, and bail us out big time if one of the other two guys go down (both of whom have injury histories of their own - and we have NO other depth). I agree that his play has not matched his contract, and that when you factor the injuries in we just can't pay this guy what we do to only play 8 games a year. But even if he's not worth gobs of money, he still has a lot of worth. A healthy LaMarr Woodley (okay, let's say one that plays 8 games) is valuable to this team. So how much worse would it be to keep him?

trade or cut him before june 1 in salary cap is equal than keeping him , if you cut him after june 1 you save 7 milion in cap this year but you have to eat 5 milion dead money at the end of next season . this from a cap standpoint . then if you look at real money out from the steelers , you have is 14 milion dead money already in the wodley pocket (so gone ) but if you keep him you have to pay his base salary next year too ..8 milion . if the steelers don't care they can keep him but i think he has to take a big pay cut to stay ..is only my opinion

So if I understand you correctly, keeping him an extra year would basically cost us an extra $8M in the long run? Therefore cutting him this year would save us $8M?
