Yes, results. You can see over the past 3 seasons all those records Tomlin's team has provided opposing teams, some records date back to the pre Noll days and aren't anything good. If Tomlin is such a great coach as your trying to lead people to believe, then why are we seeing what we see? Chower's influence is gone it's all Tomlin now, he was handed a winning team. I judge a coach by the product he puts on the field.

Yes, the NFL is a multi billion dollar industry, but the NFL doesn't hire and fire, owners do which are usually family's like the Rooney's. Colleges have multiple million and billion dollar boosters who have the influence to who gets hired and fired and school administrators listen to them. If Tomlin would put on a college football field the same product he has in Pittsburgh the last 3 4 years, combined with empty seats, fans booing he would be run out of town. He wont have the Rooney family's lack of hands on ownership to protect him.

You're not, though. You're making caveats as to what you're judging and what you aren't. Tomlin puts a superbowl-winning team on the field? That's Cowher's influence! Tomlin fields a team built from the fallout of previous successes, with lower draft picks, older veterans holding up young players development, freak injuries, salary cap issues, and so on - that's all on Tomlin!

If you really judge a coach by the product he puts on the field, then you would be looking at the successes as well as the weaknesses, and the variables in play that affect the team's performance.

I've been frustrated as anyone about the lack of energy, the lack of execution, the lack of consistency etc. etc. in the team. Some of those things could be a coaching issue. But I also wouldn't put all of that down to one factor, as that's just naive.

Tomlin put Cowher's team which was influenced under Cowher coaching and leadership on the field to win a SB. Tomlin did nothing to provide any substantial improvements to say he had any part of a winning team. If Tomlin has such amazing qualities, why are we seeing what we are seeing? Again, all the lacks you mention above fall into someone else's area or responsibility, and seem to avoid any connection to Tomlin.

...Which is not "judging a coach by the product on the field." In fact, it's almost the opposite.

I'm not going to make a claim that Tomlin is a great coach. I'm not going to say that the last few years have been anything other than disappointing. But it irritates me when people essentially set up the situation so that anything they see will prove to them that Tomlin is bad, and nothing would possible say otherwise.

Anyway, this debate has been gone over too many times to bother with it here.

Can't have conversations with haters because they won't be fair and unbiased in their arguments. Finding a scapegoat when he wins and putting all the blame on him when he loses is all the proof you need of that.

Agree. Tomlin has led the team to 2 of the last 5 super bowls. How many other coaches can say that ... none. I get just as frustrated as everyone else, but there is no way that the Rooneys will or should get rid of Tomlin at this point.

because your keeping judge by the win and loss , and no at how he is improving or downgrading this team , for ex (and i have more than one )if brown didn't step out it's a win but the coach did mistake at end that put them in the situacion , so anyway we would have won in spite of him . you have to judge tomlin overall and analized every his move on the field (clock manag , roster move ,draft picks , undisciplened , start the season unprepared ..awfull preason play ben in sanfrancisco , keep lefty injuried in the balt game last season not to mention what he did in balt.this season ) and what it does well .. that's the question ..what ?

Freak, you can dissect every coach that way, monday morning quarterback is a pastime of fans. The point in my post though had to do with giving him no credit when he wins and all the blame when he loses. That's why some of his detractors try to take away his SB win by giving Cowher the credit. It's silly. I don't think fans realize how incredibly difficult it is to reach a SB, let alone win it. Did he build that team? No, of course not, but he was still the coach when they won, the same team that went 8-8 with Cowher in his last season.

Because Cowher didnt have losing season nor did Noll right? In fact our worst years under cowher were right around the same amount of years in Tomlin has.
