He opened his press conference today immediately addressing the sideline incident, and took the bull by the horns. He made a statement about it, and then took any and all questions about it from reporters before doing his usual press conference detail. The first twenty minutes was dedicated to that. Usually, his entire presser is just a little over that. Hats off to coach Tomlin for the way he handled it. I'll post the audio and notes on the homepage a little later.

I haven't listened to it or read it yet but seems to be the Damage Control approach.

Many Politicians do this every single day. Maybe Mike should run for office. He's be just like all the other liars.

It was far above that IMO. Sure, it was damage control, but he could have just made a brief prepared statement that he read from a card (like most politicians or public personalities do who are involved in scandals), and taken a few questions and answered them briefly. I don't know if I've ever seen someone in his position take such an upfront, candid, seemingly genuine approach to controversy before.

I wondered that too. There aren't really any facts to be covered, given what matters - regardless of intention, his foot was on the field, he interfered with play etc. - was caught on a billion cameras.

Presumably, anything less than his resignation won't satisfy some.

Sorry, don't see it. He screwed up and admitted it, not sure what else you want him to do. Maybe a little hara-kiri?

He did say he made a mistake. And he seemed prepared to accept any fine that was coming his way.

The rest of what you're after... I would expect to see those results on the field than in a press conference.

Except the bit about 'deserving'... haven't you advocated in the past playing to lose for draft picks, freak?

yes but that would be intelligent while become a joke of the league on thanksgiving night is different , if you lose the last couple of games nobody can say nothing since if you are already out means you already lost before in the season .

I thought he should have made this sort of statement right after the game or on Friday morning. It would have diffused the situation almost immediately.

I like the guy, I don't care. he wasn't in this game very long before he got a head coaching gig. I have known for years there was going to be a learning curve for him.

he stepped into a pretty good setting here. it's time to see what he can build now. there will be bumps in the road before it's all over, but like us all, you have to start somewhere. we have all done stupid things. move on we have playoffs to reach.

maybe he's taken in all of todd haley and dick lebeau's head coaching knowledge. who else is around to teach him with that experience? some will have to be self taught and that usually comes with some mistakes. I think he does a pretty good job overall in this organization. sure he makes me crazy at times, but haven't they all?

Im really glad that he took this approach. Its pretty much how I felt about it. Embarrassed. Hopefully, this is the end of it and we can all move on (well except Goodell who I am sure will be handing out some punishment for MT).

I think he should have just come out and said he was preparing for a good Miami Dolphins team. When they asked questions, respond that his focus was on the Dolphins.

If you like Tomlin, you are glad he said what he said. If you do not like Tomlin, as mentioned before, the only thing satisfactory is his resignation.

Disagree. I don't like Tomlin, and I'm satisfied with what he said. He doesn't need to say anymore nor do I want him to resign or be fired over this, that's ridiculous. I want him to be fired (at the end of the season, not right now) because I don't believe he can turn this team around. I don't believe he's a good head coach. I think we'll continue to be mediocre until he's gone. That's why i want him fired.

I also am glad he addressed the situation. Refusing to address it would mean it would still be a pressing issue in the media, it would still be a distraction. He needed to address it as that's the only way to move on from it.

Anybody catch what Ryan Clark had to say about the INCIDENT? He said " The NFL will do what they have to do. There are no tapes to burn,so it should be a speedy process." A absolute classic, If you ask me.....I'll never ever forget how they beat us in 2004 after we stomped them in the regular season.

I don't know which thread to reply in, so here it is.
If the Steelers lose a draft pick, it will be a slap in the Rooney family's face from the NFL.

With that, Tomlin should be fired.
