Everyone needs to understand a couple things.

Ben has earned that big 20 mil/yr contract and his agent can most likely make a case for even more. Ben says he loves and wants to stay with the Steelers, which I believe, but he also said he just plays football and he has people that handle the business side of it for him. What does that imply, if anything?

Any concessions Ben makes for the Steelers will STILL be expensive. We complain about his 17 mil cap hit next year but that hit will be less than any concessions Ben agrees to.

I will be totally shocked if Ben agrees to anything less than a 5yr-90 mil deal.

Wait till you see who's pay is cut and/or who is released or not re-signed next year, then you will really start to see the complaining.

did you read the article ? ben say he knows his next cap years hit is too high for the steelers cap .. rember he has already took a big contact (8 year 100 ) . anyway if he wants more than 17 x year in the cap book ..they will leave his contract as it is

Yes I did, I wouldn't have quoted what he said if I hadn't. Knowing the teams cap problems and knowing your worth is the dilemma Ben is in. That's my point!

I looked up Tom's cap hit numbers-13.8 mil in 13' - 14.8 in 14' - 13 mil in 15' - 14 in 16' & 15 in 17'......I'm not sure when he signed the deal or restructured but these cap hit numbers are most helpful to the team especially when you figure he's worth a lot more.Cajun-

Here is the thing Ben is the first player in NFL history to get 70 million dollars out of one contract most qbs are resigned or released before that hit the 70 million mark. I think ben will come in around 10-15 million a year.

i agree but if he want to be payd more than 17 x year in the book he can't stay here , we simply as no cap to do it , they should find a way with a big sb and long contract backloaded to manage to keep his numbers on the book a lot less than 17 milions

I'm thinking we need a contest to see who comes the closest as to what Ben ends up signing for. Put me down for $13.1 mil/yr

That may be so but I'll bet they will juice up the back end of a very long contract (if he starts over ) so that it looks like he's a 100-120 mil QB. Never see the end of it. This is all speculation of course:hmmm:

    how many yrs left? 2?
    that's '14 & '15
why are they even talking about it or us having to hear about "a trade " in season?
that's not their way contracts and such

all that aside it'll be 15million it'll give a little help to the team , but in reality others need to step up and put their fair share in too.

    i'm looking at you WOODLEY

There are 17 million reasons to do it after this season. That's a huge cap hit to an already cap strapped team.

No matter what I just want Ben paid and here until his career is totally over. In today's NFL you're not gonna win a ring with a franchise lb or safety or cb or anything but a franchise qb. THAT'S the main ingredient in the league now. This is a qb driven league and I've just forced myself to come to grips with that. The Chiefs have a lights out defense and some good wide outs and backs but will probably get bounced early because of lackluster qb play.

that's why I hope others step up and help the team
17 isn't that bad and I feel Ben is worth it at least for next year and THEN see where they are.

    Woodley??
when's pouncey's contract up this year? he doesn't ddeserv a dang thang.

I just hope what ever the Steelers decide to do
that it will not limit our ability to improve our
overall team. We have several areas that need
to be addressed if we are to get back to top caliber football.

they can restructure him again giving 10 million sb and 7 base salary , he would have 12 milion cap hit in the next season but 5 milion more than now in the last year of contract

I thats why I think that it would be wise to extend him at the end of this offseason. An extension will give them immediate cap relief this year (and possibly next) to give to other players. Sure it is kicking the can down the road and they'll be strapped with larger cap hits down the road, but if you are going to play that game, a franchise QB is who you want to do it with. Not an LB or a DB or an OL. They are up against it, but extending Roethlisberger can help to reset the whole thing. Going forward (assuming an extension) they are going to have to make better decisions regarding who they give big money to and where they invest their cash.

Contrary to may people's beliefs, Joe Flacco's cap hit is insanely low this year and next:
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/04/flaccos-cap-numbers-stay-low-in-2013-and-2014/
Now the Ravens are going to be in a world of **** in a few years when his cap hit is $29M, but they will most certainly restructure. The Steelers don't need to be that aggressive with Ben, but if you are going to structure contracts like that, I'd rather do it with Ben than Fluccko.
