Cajun, I too have looked at this wrong,This is why I always defer to TTF when it comes to cap numbers. I missed the dead money.Unless we get a deal like Cincy got from Hue Jackson
for that piece of **** Carson Palmer. I would let the cards
fall where they fall. Draft or
aquire a qb that you think will be able to lead us into the next generation of STEELERS I WOULD ONLY EXTEND BEN ON STEELER TERMS,IF NOT LET HIM PLAY OUT HIS CONTRACT AND THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICES.

at the end of his article is exactly what I've been saying. keep ben and don't do anything with his contract and draft another qb this year if we get the chance. we also have jones with a year under his belt.

I like grad but he's not hard to replace, seriously. 2 young possibilities in the pipeline giving you 2 options to see where we stand after next season and still have the 2015 season to go.

if by then we need to make another pick/extension/trade/whatever, we make that decision based on two good qb's in our hands and one franchise starting. all the dead money gone and a decision on a 34 year old qb. a decision on one 3 year backup. a decision on a 2 year backup. also time to develop the team around them all.:cool:

I think Landry Jones could develop into a pretty good quarterback. Will he ever be Ben? Of course not. He's a very different quarterback than Ben. But I understand he spends a lot of time in the film room and is a very heady guy. We saw flashes of his ability in the third pre-season game and hopefully he will continue to improve with a season under his belt.

I just can't believe how some people on this board are already writing him off his rookie season. They'd have cut Bradshaw before he won his first Super Bowl.

I just think of it as why handcuff ourselves. most teams having to replace a franchise guy, don't have said franchise qb signed for two more years with a chance to get a high pick and have a good 4th round young guy to be sitting there learning. ben has made one full season in his career. i'm sure these two could see some field time in two years. at least we'd know if we need to sign, or extend ben during the season. does anyone think he will just up and sign somewhere else if he still can and wants to play? the other two guys we would at least know if they are it or not.

Don't think we can compare him to Brady, or expect that, considering Giselle's net worth is more than his.

Yeah but, it's gunna make Ben look mighty damn greedy if he's asking for anything close to $20mil or more, when Ike, Troy, and Heath are going to all be subject to take major cuts in-order to stay.

Once again, this is like grinding up a dead horse at this point, but Ben is not gonna be traded. Even if they got 3 high picks for him, it doesn't mean we would get a Pro Bowl QB outta the deal! You don't trade him away for the unknown....PERIOD! Go watch some 80's Steeler films are keep that in mind when you ask these questions.

I say no trade he gives the team the best chance at winning. They need to sign him to a contract extension for salary cap relief maybe he gives the team a hometown discount.

Thanks TTF, a very good link that I enjoyed. I also get the dead money, prorated bonus for 14' & 15' and quite frankly not sure where my mental block was coming from...... getting old I guess.

Now for my take on this crazy stuff------
I've been a Steeler fan since 73' and I pull for the black-n-gold more so than any particular name plate.

Ben is our Franchise QB, we need to tweak our roster but blowing it up is NOT necessary right now. I feel if we get one of the top 2 LT in the draft we will be very good on the O side of the ball. I feel if we re-sign Worilds, get our ILBer set with Foote,Timmons, Williams and spence, rework Ikes deal as he has hinted too, draft a top CB in rd 2 and trade up in rd 3 for another top safety and use our 3rd rd comp pick on another TE we'll be SB contenders again for a couple years.

Now if we get a "offer you can't refuse" for Ben then I'd have to go that rte knowing the next couple years may be rebuilding but having hopes we'd return to a dynasty with a new young franchise QB and LT to fix our OL.

That would be one heck of a cap hit, wouldn't it?

infact we have problem already with the next cap year at 17 . they should extend him with big sign bonus and a 6 years contract and before the end of the contact we will see if cut and take one year hit (dead money ) or extend again
