With Cincy losing and various AFC teams we are right in the hunt still for the division and wildcard

    Inga: Werewolf!

    Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Werewolf?

    Igor: There.

    Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What?

    Igor: There, wolf. There, castle.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Why are you talking that way?

Igor: I thought you wanted to.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: No, I don't want to.

    Igor: [shrugs] Suit yourself.
    I'm easy.

I'm hoping we finish at .500. That would be great the way the season started.

I agree. I don't know if you feel like this but for me this season has been such a total buzzkill that even though we won today I just still was sorta like "meh". I still just don't view this as a team that could be competitive in the playoffs among the actual elite teams in the league. I'm glad we won and I enjoy watching winning football but it just doesn't feel as good when it doesn't feel like we are playing "toward" something. Not to mention when you are watching the game and the announcers are talking about trade rumors of your franchise qb you just know things have gotten totally bad. I know the rumors are nonsense but they still just seem like another dagger in our heart this year. I'm sure I'm probably in the minority but I just felt that way.

I know exactly what you're saying. After watching the preseason games I honestly didn't expect much from them this year. I've watched every game except today's(hunting), but the wins have been kind of hollow.

I was also pretty emotionally detached about today's game. The reality is that we faced a rookie QB. The one thing that DL's defense is still great for is confusing rookie QBs. I knew beyond a doubt that we would win this one, and that the Bills would be under 15 points. It does't mean that we're going to slow down the veteran QB-led offenses left on our schedule.

Until they are mathematically eliminated, I get excited about every Steelers win. Do I like our chances? Absolutely not, but there is no predicting this game, so I'll enjoy it while I can, be plenty of time to sulk later if thats how it pans out.

Even though we won, at times Ben looked like he just didn't care at all. Not gonna win the division like that.

Right now the Jets hold the #6 spot in the playoff chase, 2 games ahead of the Steelers...(Steelers own the tiebreaker). Steelers are also only 2 games back in the division. The fat lady may be in the room, but she isnt singing yet. :p

I feel pretty much the same way. I've never had a season where I cared as little each week as I do at this point. I still watch, but I've got no real excitement for the games. The house used to be all about Sunday morning jersey and hat-wearing, coffee out of Steelers-mugs drinking, flag-flying hours before the game. Now? I don't even pay attention to the coffee cup I grab. Happy about a win? Yep. Excited for the rest of the season? Hardly.

We won but not against a decent team. Its frustrating they get to the red zone....BAM FG. Cant win games kicking FGs. I told my wife, I wish they would just lose out, get a top draft pick, and start fresh next year. I hate to be that way but there is no excitement, there is no desire, there is no win, there is no attitude, ....this team is flat. And now they are sounding like Tomlin with their interview comments, they might as well say 'we re going to unleash hell'.

In reading the comments in this thread (including my own), I have to feel kind of lucky. I listen to Sirius XM NFL Radio year round, and I hear many callers from some of the league's lesser teams call in to discuss their teams' prospects and get excited about the possibility of getting to .500. I've been a Steeler fan since I was a little kid in the mid 70's, and I've never been in a situation where a .500 season could be viewed as a success, or a prospect to be excited over. In a season like this, we really should feel lucky that for our team anything less than a deep run into the playoffs is considered a failure.

In other words, maybe we're all just spoiled.

Love the optimism Real Steel, but this win is more than just improving our (rather slim) playoff chances. Its about the young players on this football team. I've noticed that a surprisingly large amount of people on here would rather us just lose out so we get a "better" draft pick, yet that is quite possibly the absolute worst thing we could do. Is there no professional pride? Is it all about the individual stats and just cashing the check? If you can't win the Super Bowl, do you just lose on purpose to "better your chances" with better draft position? No. Being a winner is a mentality. Its a culture. Its about belief, not only in one's self, but in each other as a whole. You just can't just lose out, and hope you draft a stud... Thats how your franchise turns into a perennial loser. That's how you become the Cleveland Browns.

If we drop the next 7 games it may get us a better draft position for 2, maybe 3 players in this years draft, but it hurts the 53 that are on the current unit much more than those few future Steelers could ever help. Despite being thought to be an "old" team, we have an incredibly large amount of first year (or basically first year) starters that are key contributors to this year's team. McLendon, Heyward, JJ, V. Williams, Worilds, Shamarko, C. Allen, DeCastro, Adams, Bell. 10. That is basically half of the football team who are in their first year as a full time starter, or as a big time contributor. The winning culture can start now, even if we wont be a "winning" football team. Going 4-3 (which would be good for us) will help this team more than going 1-6 and getting a top 5 pick. It just will. Not in terms of getting some kid out of college who may or may not be a great NFL player, but in the mentality of those who are ALREADY ON THE TEAM. This is professional sports after all... its so much more mental than anything else.

Understand completely, BFT. And I must admit, one of the thoughts that entered my mind today was that we're just costing ourselves draft position. Hate to feel that way, but that's the kind of season it's been so far. Now, if we can claw our way back to 6-6 and be a game out of the divisional lead my mindset may change. It's absolutely ridiculous that we can say we still have a semi-legitimate opportunity if we keep winning. But that's a big IF!

while it was a very nice win against a decent team with their 3rd string QB... you're kidding right? back in the hunt? 3-6 in the hunt ? wildcard? playoffs ? i think you drank way too much at the game dude.. we struggled early at home vs a decent team.. nice win but hardly "back"
