If Ben's contract is extended, what is the best coaching staff (HC, DC, & OC) could you come up with to turn this team around the fastest and get the most out of his remaining years?

Even if Bens contract is extended...You dont cure our ills with a new HC,DC & OC in one year.We are in a downward spiral that is going to take years to pull out of.

Dont know Zombieland at all (but I do watch The Walking Dead). STEELERS are in doubt and have no clue as in how to get out.

No shovel needed to dig out, it's really simple. After many years of watching untalented teams gut stuff out, it's really all about taking old talent and new talent and playing frigging sound football! We have the measurables as well as the inexperience, but neither are being put into a good game plan. At least in my opinion.

If Ben's contract is extended we will all be in deep doo doo. He extends he'll have to find a Veteran to get him a free Hugo folding cane at SAMS this weekend. Can't take that beating much more without limping

If Ben's contract is extended forget about filling the OC position. Just run the no huddle, strengthen the defense, and invest in a really, really good field goal kicker.

** don't trash my choices until you make your own **
(I'm assuming Cowher will land with the Giants if he goes anywhere)

    If Tomlin is kept ...
    HC ... Mike Tomlin
DC ... 1st Lovie Smith; 2nd Keith Butler
OC ... 1st Ken Whisenhunt; 2nd Tom Clements or Chan Gailey

If Tomlin is let go ...
HC ... 1st Ken Whisenhunt; 2nd John Hufnagel
DC ... 1st Lovie Smith; 2nd Keith Butler
OC ... 1st Tom Clements; 2nd Chan Gailey or Frank Reich

In the role of OC, both Whisenhunt and Clements would likely also have to have an Assistant HC title since they are already both OC's.

I would like to have Dan Quinn from Seattle as our DC. As far as HC I really don't know who I would want as far as people that are actually available. I would take Mike McCarthy if he were available since he is a proven commodity and seems like a really decisive guy. As far as OC I might take Josh McDaniels but he sorta seems like Haley Lite so I'm not really sure about that either. As long as his last name is not Arians I will be fine with it. LOL. For the record, a lot of people at work have been telling me that John Gruden is going to be our next coach. They are wrong but I just thought I would throw that out there.

I'm thinking the Rooneys might want to revisit the fork in the road they took back in 2006/2007 hence the Whisenhunt pick.

BTW, what is Russ Grimm doing these days?

I believe Grimm is sitting at home twiddling his thumbs after being let go by the Cardinals.

Very good question, and I do not have the answer I always enjoyed Chan Gailey's offense though. It would all depend though on the new HC They would bring in.Who in my opinion would have to be an offensive minded coach, considering the way the league has made the playing field unbalanced.

I'd rather had Grimm as an O-Line coach vs who we ended up with.

Does it really matter whose offensive system is in place? If there's one thing I've learned it's that Ben is not a system quarterback. He always reverts back to the freelance style that's made him famous. I like Chan Gailey too and my initial thought was that if he could get O'Donnell to the Super Bowl, what could he do with Ben? But I don't believe Ben is as coachable as O'Donnell. He's probably not as coachable as Landry Jones. But that's what's made Ben, Ben. His gunslinger style and his freelancing after the play called has broken down. Given that Ben is at his best once the system has broken down, what does the system matter? Just bring in an OC that gets along with Ben and will let Ben be Ben. Kirby Wilson fits the bill.

So your choice for OC is Kirby Wilson; where was he an OC before? :hmmm:
BTW, still waiting for the rest of your choices. :smiley1:

Fitchner as QB coach. He seems pretty docile too and will let Ben be Ben. As long as Ben is running the show, we'll be fine, right? I think Wilson as the OC and Fitch as the QB coach would allow Ben to run the show, right?

As for DC, I'm okay with Butler. I think the Steelers owe him an opportunity at this point.

And for Head Coach, I really believe Bill O'Brien has what it takes to be a HC at the NFL level. His words would actually mean something and if he's not afraid to get in the face of one of the best QBs in history, he won't take any crap from anybody. And we need somebody that's able to keep a sinking ship afloat. What he's done at Penn State in the midst of turmoil is admirable.

I disagree with most of this post, but I do agree that he's arguably at his best when the play breaks down, assuming that's what you mean by the system breaking down.

If we're going to can Haley, and we're looking for a guy based on the 'getting along with Ben' criteria, wouldn't Randy Fichtner be the #1 easy choice? You would think he could be plugged right in and handed the clipboard.

Boy, everybody's sarcasm meter is off a little today. :lolol:

I'm being tongue in cheek with some of what I say, but I do believe that Ben does better when he basically gets his way. Do I really want Wilson as the OC? No! Do I want Fitchner? No! But I think Ben may do better with an OC that really isn't going to implement a system over his objections. I think Haley tried to do that initially and it's been a failure. And Ben is apparently unwilling to recognize that Haley's system could be his salvation relative to prolonging his career. And before anybody says it, I realize that our pathetic OL hadn't helped matters any.
Sucky offensive line + QB who likes to hold onto the ball = unmitigated disaster

IMO Bill O'Brien would be a good choice as a Head Coach, but I think Penn State has him locked up for a while money-wise/contract buyout, etc.

We will likely end up with Butler as DC, as we will typically piss around too much and some other team will scoop up and sign Lovie Smith as their DC (if he doesn't get a HC gig first).

As far as OC, I'd much rather get someone from the outside who has had NFL OC experience or has played QB before. If the Steelers must stay inside for an OC, then Randy Fichtner is the much better choice.

You can ignore my prior post then, your post did have a hint of sarcasm to it, but I wasn't 100% sure. :smiley1:
