Zoltan fired and while I admit that he wasn't adding up, he got screwed by a botched block by a tight end on a pretty bad play.

Funny... Tight ends are beyond reproach this season, and I'm beginning to wonder if every roster spot on this team is subject to overhaul so long as they are not a tight end.

James Daniel (TE's coach) would be one of the coaches I'd axe after the season.

I don't like Paulson at all, and actually I wanted to bring this up:

A: I think overall the best players should play, and B: Ben is getting hit a lot this year.

I think we should go power running the rest of the year to keep Ben injury free, and I think Will Johnson should get snaps as a blocking FB over Paulson a TE who can't block.

I think Will Johnson is a a real dynamic talent as far as FB's go. I just don't know why he can't be more a part of this offense.

I agree but despite all the hyping of Will, they don't utilize him correctly which has been a trend with our FB's for awhile and he seems to be the most well rounded of the lot in recent memory!

And I know it's coming, so... Yes our line is miserable so F the running game power or not. But, utilizing the FB would generate some positives and possibly help open more holes from a lackluster line.

Sorry Dobbler but I can't disagree with you more. Yes the TE's have been awful, but a botched block assignment is not what did Zoltan in. Zoltan's 36.7 net average is what did him in. That's all on Mesko my friend.

I can say I mentioned Paulson as a disappointing player and reaffirmed that in the gameday thread when that block happened. or lack there of a block. he laid on the ground as the fumble we should have had rolled past him.

this kid has no business being on the field. another bad draft pick. i'm tired of hearing about his ability to catch passes. that's fine if he was a wr but he's not. he's never stepped up and improved.

we can't go on with TE's, that one can catch and one can block and one can't do either. we knew he wasn't a good blocker when we drafted him. why did we draft him then? again pointing back to MT, his staff, colbert and the selections. there is really getting to be a theme here.

I know in preseason some folks were very high on Paulson and Beachum. So far, I've seen nothing out of either of them. I know some people might still defend Beachum, but I'm not convinced he's the answer at all.

What bothers me more about the TEs is that we keep 19 of them on the roster and don't seem to line up a huge amount with more than one on the field - or is that just my perception?

If he caught the snap with his hands instead of his chest, the punt wouldn't have been blocked regardless of what the TE did.

Why is it so hard to learn blocking though? I mean is that a gift? I'd think if you taught these guys the technique for that, that it shouldn't be impossible to do or is that a special skill?

in defense of beachum, I know I have backed him from the start, and never said he's the longterm answer. he is however the best we have this year and has made a difference.

as for Paulson, that was a half azzed attempt at blocking on that play no matter how the punter caught the ball. he knew it too. he had an oh chit moment.

I wasn't excusing the guy as I said he wasn't adding up (meaning numbers wise).

i was more in the mind set of laughing at the fact that with all of the tight ends on the roster along with recent addition of another, that they seem untouchable. We have other needs a punter being just one.

So yes I'm in agreement with you.

How about we compromise and get a punter who can ALSO play tight end??? LOL. PLEASE don't suggest this to Tomlin!

Hahahaha well at least it would make sense. TE's that can be interchangeable at other positions that is.

I feel I see the same, but I could be wrong...definitely not using 2 TE in the power formations of years past that I used to remember, maybe that is why?

Another issue I have with blocking is we rarely keep a RB in there to help block for Ben, and they way our line plays I almost feel we should keep 2 guys back there. We have been very prone to blitzes up the middle by MLB's....no one is ther ehalf the time to pick these guys up.

Dare I say that DJ might have been more helpful than we realized? No. I will not say it. I CAN not.

DJ? Dennis Johnson? Maybe, although a healthy Matt Spaethe is probably equally as good, and I feel Steelers can improve on both of those guys in the draft if they decide to.

No. I meant DJ Tanner. No. I meant DJ Connor. LOL. No I meant David Johnson really. But I would rather have DJ Tanner or DJ Connor just based on the principle that I refuse to EVER compliment David Johnson. That's just how I roll.
