With all the negativity around here as of late I thought I'd make this post so people could at least understand where I'm coming from.
We've had the realist vs homer topic and I've been labeled at times as drinking the Kool aid.
I'm fully aware of how bad the Steelers are at this present time, it's not like I'm some dumb ass who thinks the Steelers can do no wrong. I understand the problems they have and also know that it takes time to fix them and with the Steelers track record I'm sure they'll get this turned around we just have to be patient.
I get the frustration to a point, but some of the nonsense some of you post is just that. I understand discussing problems on the team, but some of you don't know when to stop.
The stuff that irks me the most is the gloating about being right about the Steelers not doing well. That just doesn't make sense to me.
I want to have fun watching the games. If all Im going to do is get pissed at everything they do wrong I'm going to find something else do do in life. At some point some of you have to get tired of being miserable for 3 hours every Sunday? I want to hang out with my friends and watch the game and high five when they make a play and moan a bit when they mess up.
I love the Steelers and always will.

There's a lot of different definitions of realism.

    E.g.:
"The team is bad at the moment and needs to make adjustments" - realist. I don't think anyone on this board would claim otherwise, though.
"This team is 2-5" - realist. They are.

But then you get the hyperbole, and that's when the realist sentiment - we're in a bit of trouble - gets extended to beyond what's actually happening. So, even if the sentiment is considered more 'realistic' than those who want to stay optimistic, we have to realise conjecture when we see it.

E.g. "This team will never win another game ever!"
    "All of our rookies suck!"
"Our offense only has four plays!" (Hmm, I think I actually said that one)

Conjecture is what makes messageboards fun, but just because one is negative doesn't make it any more or less realistic than a positive one.

I was wondering the same thing. You're on a message board, you're going to see every type of post on here, some rational, some irrational. Some people get way too upset that the rest of the world doesn't see things their way

Yep. I think the one thing we can ALL agree on is that every person on here is a TRUE Steelers fan. Some have different ways of expressing their frustration, especially during a season like the one we are having.

If people didn't love the Steelers, they wouldn't be on here posting all the time.

there are people that likes more to find the problems ( so to know what has to be solved) than the things that are working , they are critics , i don't know if they have to be called necessarily negative

I don't know you on a personal level but i'm sure your cool and mean well but it is annoying to read every time I jump on here. :drinks:

if your gonna carve out time to come to a message board for a sports team than your probably a pretty big fan.

because we dont all look at things the same or take the losses the same doesnt make it wrong.

i come hear because i occasionally get some good info that i wasnt aware of and to see what other fans have to say on wins, loses, players, coaches and the future of the team.

i dont come hear to be lectured or told that im not a die hard Steelers fan.

this is a open forum message board and not everyone is going to have the same opinion and im glad about that. if we all agreed than it would get pretty boring.

When I saw the post - all I can think of is the Seinfeld episodes where people talk in the third person like when George says "Independent George is getting upset!" or when they were playing basketball with "Jimmy" and he slips in water - "Jimmy's got a compound fracture!"

So I just picture Glenn saying "SteelerGlenn is getting upset!"

What you say here is so true. Problem is, I think many of us realize these behaviors, yet we can't stop them. My wife recognizes this irrationality in me and kicks me out of the house during games. I have to go to the sports bar down the street.

Research suggests that we all succumb to something called "Social identity." This means that we get a sense of self through our "group" membership and alignment. We want to feel that we are part of the "right group" or "best group." This is why fans tend to taunt each other over things they have no control over: none of us are actually on the field playing and yet we all act as though we have some sort of hand in the outcome. We talk of the team as "we" and "our" and "us."

I could go on and on about this, but it is a fascinating explanation for why we act the way we do as sports fans.

I get where Glenn is coming from, he's not talking about people who logically discuss whats wrong with the team, he's talking about the over the top guys, this board is free of trolls thanks to the tight ship TTF runs but unfortunately there are some of our own fans that troll the team in their frustration, who wants to see that?
