Bottom line, the o line is and has been our biggest problem two years running. Losing two more today, and, well, you saw how that ended up. Ben needs time, and some of you act as if the loss is on him, when he is running EVERY pass play just to buy an extra second. This line is not good now, and injuries saw to that from the 1st qtr of the season and thru today. It's all patchwork, and backups, and its killing the offense that some blame the HC, or the OC, or even the QB, when its up front that's killing us. You ask why no long pass plays? Maybe because my farts last longer than Ben's pass protection that's why! 2.5 YPC? Maybe its because our RB is playing behind the same guy that was filling the Gatorade buckets two weeks ago! Bottom line, its the most important issue this team has, and it has been for 2 years. It's no better today than 20 games ago, and probably won't be until 2014. As they say, "It is what it is"

They will continue to struggle until the O-line is fixed.

But they have invested large amounts
of money into the OL for years.
High draft picks were spent on the OL,
Is it player evaluation, is it coaching. I am
sure the Rooney's would like to know.
Its time for a clean sweep. We must do better.

It all starts in the front office. The team is riddled with draft busts and mediocre players and nowhere is that more evident than the O line.

Our oline is in bad shape. We've had three oline coaches in the last three years I believe, poor selection of players (Mike Adams), injuries and trying to run a new scheme with all 2nd year players.

We should of stuck with Starks and Colon for another season.

It's terrible coaching from Tomlin down, the packers has an all rookie Oline, three 4th round picks and 2 undrafted free agents starting, and they are playing lights out, how good is a school without teachers?

it's evaluation. foster is no starting guard, nor was kemoeatu, or colon, yet we keep trying to force the square peg in the round hole.

people may not agree but I saw something that made me smile sunday. cody Wallace probably didn't get a lot of reps since he's been here and wasn't perfect in pass protection, but he was mobile and to the outside when the run game went out there. he actually got there in a timely fashion with the rb, not after. he actually hit something to when he got out there.

i'm not anointing him a pro bowler, but it's a glimps at what I've been talking about with mobility and how we are trying to do with the wrong type of lineman.

our two tackles as I keep saying, were stretches because they came from running qb offenses in college.

they never learned how to pass protect nor did they have to. I don't want Colbert to make this mistake again this year if he decides to go Matthews, lewan, or a few other higher rated tackles in this draft. we already have that. we need a good LT that came from a pro style offense that can pass block.

how plain does it have to be? I've stated this for a long time now and keep seeing people saying , oh how can you pass on these top rated guys? I say easy. give me a good pass protector and we can teach him to run block, but save our franchise qb and allow him to operate first and formost. then they have to be mobile enough to be used in the run and screen game.

i'm tired of we have to give him time to get better. WHY? when you know the strength and the footwork isn't there, you try someone or something else.

On both sides of the ball it starts up front. The OL has been getting worse each year and has not been good for a long time. Remember Ben trying to stick up for them after SB40 by saying "Who's laughing now O-Line?". Since then it has gotten worse. It is hard to say exactly what is the cause when you look at other teams with extremely young and lower drafted guys playing great together. Is it talent, coaching, a combination of both. I wish I had the answers. On D I'd love to see DL play bump and run even occasionally to try anything to throw off the timing. He doesn't so does that show a severe lack of confidence in the up-front guys to get quick pressure?

Pretty dang good post, Mac. To be fair though, there's some growing pains to be expected when transitioning between offensive line philosophies, but I agree completely with your assessment of square pegs and backwards development ideas.

If by front office you mean Colbert, my question is this: How did the guy who drafted Troy, Casey, Ben, and Heath, as well as Hines and Faneca, suddenly become a draft day bozo?

I agree whole heartedly Mac, but for people to say we have not invested MONEY into the OL
is ludicrous. It has been poor evaluation by both Tomlin and Colbert and OL scouts and this is why they both must go.
Somebody is going to get fired
over this, somebody has to be accountable for this.We have a franchise QB that will waste away
his last remaining days getting beat up by POOR OL play.

Coaches are to blame for drafting these people
