Bizarre little story. The way it's reported, it sounds like Tomlin said they'd draft him, but then told him how difficult it was being a hometown QB, which meant Pryor didn't want to be drafted by us.

Why would a coach do that? The only reason I can think of is that that Pryor actively asked the Steelers to draft him, but neglected to mention that in the article.

I read that the other day and thought, hmmmm??? Especially when I read this:
“Mike said, Hey, I'll draft you if you want to play here."

It's like Tomlin was saying you call it, Terrelle. I'll draft you in the supplemental draft if you'd like to play here. Since when do we make personnel decisions like that? If we like the guy enough we draft him and he deals with the the extra-curricular stuff. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

What round pick would that have been ... a 2nd or a 3rd round pick??
Geeze, and folks were complaining about the Landry Jones 4th round pick. LOL :lolol:

I read this the other day but took it the opposite as you did. I understood it that Tomlin said that he'd draft him but that Pryor didn't want to be in Pittsburgh because of distractions, which is why he also didn't attend Penn State. This makes sense to me, just like Hernandez who got into to trouble because of his roots, NE was probably the worst place for him to end up playing. These athletes with troubled childhoods do best far away from home.

I'm not sure what to make of it really, but it wouldn't have likely mattered if Tomlin really wanted to draft him or not. The Raiders were Tier 1 or 2 in the supplemental draft, we were coming off a Super Bowl appearance and were Tier 3.

It's my understanding that Colbert decides who to draft anyway, with input of course.

I think that's certainly what Pryor wants to make out. I just find the whole idea of Tomlin saying any of those things a bit odd. It seems very contrary to how the draft actually works...

That (the bolded above) and "the supposed offer" came from Tomlin rather than Colbert is what I found really odd about the article. Just curious (I don't want him anyway), the Raiders got him with a 3rd round pick, since we were Tier 3, would we have been able to get him with a 2nd round pick or were we out of the picture all together, how does that work??

The order is determined by a lottery, with the favor going to the the higher tier teams. After the order is determined, teams either make a selection during their round, or pass. If a team wanted Pryor in round 2, they could have taken him in exchange for next year's round 2 pick.
