Only this one actually males sense if he is healthy. The Steelers are evaluating tony moeki of the chiefs. He just finished his injury settlement and is on waivers. He is a legit 2nd option at TE. Him and miller would give us a lot of options and he should be able to step right into a Todd Haley offense. I believe he is a very good blocker as well as a decent target. He has 80 catches a 1000 yards andr4 tds.

If the Chiefs let him go, that doesn't really give me a good feeling. It makes sense that we are taking a look at him, but I believe Spaeth should be back within a couple of weeks.

The fact that we're looking at him makes me think that Spaeth isn't coming back this season. He's still not practicing, which he should be at this point, or close to it.

Moeki could give us a really dangerous 2 TE set if he's healthy (which is what the Steelers are apparently doing their homework on).

Yeah that true but of we can get him to sign a 2 year deal we are set for next year as well. Spaeth won't be back this year and if moeaki is ready come week 11 him and heath would be a nightmare for defenses.

I also think the writing is on the wall they are bringing him in. Why else would they restructure ikes deal halfway through the year they needed the money for something.

I hope the personell evaluating him are the same ones used for Levi Brown!!!!!!!

Fact is guys we need a solid blocking TE. Heath who is usually excellent here has struggled a little bit since returning which should be expected, that knee isn't 100%, maybe 90 or higher. Next year he'll be that total package again!!!

Paulson is a very good pass receiving TE but stinks blocking. DJ is hurt. New guy Gordon is unproven, Palmer is built like Miller but gentleman, he is no Miller.

Spaeth may or may not return but we need his pass protecting and run blocking skills badly. If you doubt it then remember this, before that benched Adams they were gonna use Beechum at TE but that got killed. Every one thinks Whimper did a good job against the birds but Adams played TE on his side.

If Adams could run a 4.55 40 and had hands like Miller he'd be the Greatest TE ever!! Sorry, back to reality...........

If Moeki proves healthy enough to play I can see us signing him and cutting Gordon or Palmer.

While this could be true...the team always likes to have cap room in case they need to sign someone...being like 200-300K under the cap isnt something you want, especially with how all the injuries have been happening. You need to have the money available to sign a guy then and there...not have to wait to restructure someone then be able to sign

We need to take some pressure off of Heath. They are in dire need for another blocking tight end to help this O line out!

Moeaki has a super high ceiling the problem is he can't catch a break and stay healthy. He played for the Hawks so I got to watch his college ball. He is a difference maker when healthy. The question becomes if he can stay healthy long term. If so he would be a great number 2 option. He played in a pro set in college and can run block very well. I would like to see them sign him for strictly personal reasons. Finally get an Iowa Hawkeye on the roster! I would think he would come in fairly cheap and not be a huge risk.

i'm hoping they draft the one iowa has right now. they are starting to finally throw him the ball now, the blocking part has been there. fedorawicz(sp?)

I don't see Paulson as much of a need if he can't block because his pass catching is not that stellar either. at least not that much of a difference maker without being able to block. I don't think palmer is getting enough shots at it. he doesn't have to be heath, nor do any of them but block and catch at least at a decent rate.

This is very true, we were too close to the ceiling and needed some breathing room.

My problem is this, they could have the details worked out, as they already have, but not make the restructure official until they need it. You don't borrow money then put it in a saving account for potential future uses. If they aren't looking at replacing some-one they should have waited before pulling the trigger on that restructure, IMO.

Anytime you borrow from tomorrow to pay for today it comes with a cost. It may not be a major issue but when coupled with many many other future deals it becomes cumulative and then THAT becomes a big deal.

I wish we could use what we have each year and that's it but that isn't reality in today's NFL cap era because we want to STAY in contention as long as possible. The day will come, the pipers bill will be due, and we will suffer thru it like everyone else but hopefully it will be but a short time.

Ike's cap hit will now be three times his dead money hit..... hhmmm- writing on the wall to get cut so I wonder why this veteran who knows the business end of the NFL works would put his final years here in jeopardy.

Maybe he'll extend a couple years at vet min and spread his now guaranteed money over that time, who really knows.

I would love to see the Steelers draft a couple of Hawks this year. Fiedorowicz the TE is a big kid with a tremendous skill set but doesn't get utilized enough. Part of that is because they take him away since Iowa's WR's are young and not real polished yet. The other one would be Sherff the LT. Not sure if he is going to go pro since he has some eligibility left after this year but get me those two guys in this draft and call it a success.

have they really borrowed from the future in this instance? I doubt we cut him because of the near 5 mil we have to pay for colon next year. if ike takes a two mil reduction we still would get him around that 5 mil range that his hit would be in just salary and he can still play at this level, so I don't think we lose either way next year. plus the carry over hopefully.
