That may be the case, but had he been on the active roster, injury free, for 5 weeks and then sustained an injury there would have been nothing anyone could have done about that. Those things happen in the NFL. My point is that we didn't lose anything in this so we're really no worse off than we were before we traded for him. Even if he had gone on IR after the 5 week grace period, we still would have only lost a late round pick and it's my understanding that the Cards also gave us a late round pick so that would have been a wash, right? I guess we may have given them a 6th and they gave us a 7th or something like that and I'm speculating here. At any rate, this was a low risk, potentially high reward, trade and I don't really fault Colbert for that.

I don't fault Colbert for the Brown trade, what I do fault him for was not doing diddley squat to adequately address the depth on both the O-line and at Tight End during the off season.

Can't argue with that. There are a few reasons to be concerned about some of Colbert's personnel moves (or lack thereof) over the last several years.

That may be true, but is not the topic.

Really? Of all the GMs in the NFL Colbert has the best record. There is a scapegoat somewhere but its not Colbert

We've had too many misses at the top (first and second rounds) over the last few years for Colbert to be blameless. But I think coaching is partially to blame as well. Once we have the players, we don't seem to be coaching them up and their development seems to be stunted.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have six Super Bowl victories, and two of those victories came under the leadership of the current front office, which is led by general manager Kevin Colbert. The Steelers made it to another Super Bowl, only to lose to the Green Bay Packers.
Under the leadership of Colbert, the Steelers have won 10.4 regular-season games per year and 0.9 playoff games per year. Think about that: Ten wins and a playoff victory have been an average year for the Steelers for 13 years.
The Steelers have just one losing season in the past 13 years and have made the playoffs eight times. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Steelers have one of the best front offices in football because they have been a pillar of success in the NFL for over 40 years.

Again the discussion was that Colbert traded for a player that was injured at the time of the trade yet snuck through the physical and fooled that bumpkin Colbert.

Don't you know that the Steelers have no idea how to run an NFL team as of late. There are several members here who know way more than them and should probably be considered to replace Colbert.

    Are you talking about you?

"They shouldn't have gotten rid of Hines Ward"

    "They shouldn't start McLendon"

    "They shouldn't keep Redman"

    etc

    ;)

TTF, we all have things we don't agree with in respect to how the Steelers run the team. I don't think Colbert is perfect, he's made some mistakes IMO, but you have to admit that it's pretty silly to suggest that they didn't do their due diligence and signed a player who was hurt at the time of the trade.

Thanks for being a good sport about my chop busting, Glenn. :smiley1:
Seemed like a simple case of bad luck to me. Of course Brown had to go through a physical and his known previous injuries are going to be under the medical staff's microscope. Colbert probably wasn't in the exam room.
