My completely outrageous not-gonna-happen scenario I posted a while ago in the draft section had us taking Jadaveon Clowney, switching to a 4-3, and hiring Gus Bradley after he's fired from Jacksonville...

Bradley's the one that built that defense.

I would much rather have their scouting department. AKA the people responsible for building the current teams in SF and Seattle.

The big key to me is they have drafted great on both on the lines and they get big strong CB'S...Not little shrimp guys ....

The scouting department is responsible for that.

Keep in mind how long SF sucked and Seattle has not been much better until recently. Makes a big difference if you are picking at the top of the draft vs. the middle or bottom of each round.

That's definitely true to an extent, but the point I'm trying to make is the same scouts that built the current SF team also built the Seattle team. This was talked about in an article posted recently and they even mentioned how the Steelers have fallen off in the last few years. Our draft misses over the last few years support the assertions made in that article as does the success of SF and Seattle.

Pete Carroll should get the credit for the players he has on defense, he recruited some of these players when he was at USC...

I think it has to do more with player development and an entirely different defensive scheme rather than who was drafted where.

Man I wish the Steelers had 6 SB wins like the Seahawks, oh wait minute......
People are free to jump off the Steelers bandwagon and onto the Seahawks bandwagon. I never understood the other team envy that some Steelers fans have. Other team envy is inexcusable for Steelers fans.

Yes, Sherman was a 5th round pick. That also means the Seahawks passed up on him four times. Luck has a lot to do with it too, oh, and a little coaching up goes a long way as well.

Envy, hardly. I just want a CB that can actually cover a WR and play ball hawk coverage. Haven't had one since the 90's and that says a lot in terms of our scouts. I've said it for ten years, but whoever our CB scouts are, they should've been fired years ago. No way a team drafts guys with the sole purpose of tackling only and no cover skills. You can't miss on that many CBs!

I agree diamond. the draft niks got on pete for what they called reaches, but he kept to his guns and what he thought were the right players and slowly built a pretty good team. maybe even similar to how chaz built one in his first years. he's doing it his way. with a strong defense and adding the right guys on offense in between. not the highest ranked guys but good football players.

I gotta give pete carroll credit. I've never been a big PC fan and maybe it had to do with my hatred of USC being a buckeye fan. now he doesn't have all the pressure of the ncaa and has a good eye for talent on both sides of the ball.

I still believe the steelers need a good offensive mind brought in to help the drafting and raising of the offensive side of the ball in some capacity. we have the defensive side covered.

    Sounds like envy to me.

Did you miss games over the past 10 years?? You don't need to go back to the 90's to find a very good CB on this team. Ike did very well over the years covering WR's. Ike and the other CB's on this team helped the Steelers make it to 3 SB's. The Steelers secondary covered WR's better then you must remember.

The Steelers pass defense was better then the Seahawks pass defense over the past two seasons.
In 2012 the Steelers were 1st in pass defense and the Seahawks were ranked 6th
In 2011 the Steelers were 1st in pass defense and the Seahawks were ranked 11th
**The Steelers defense was without their best pass rushers being healthy for much of the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

The amount of winning this team did and statistics don't back up your claim that, "You can't miss on that many CBs!" Some fans will never be pleased.

    Thank you.
most of the Steelers issues have been offense. We have had a very good team over the years and a. Great defense many years. Most other fans has wished they had our defenses.

Those 2 teams had years of drafting early because they were laughing stock of the league for years....They finally hit on a couple draft classes and there you go...

Its the curse of being successful for so many years...

Some teams in our position try to overcome it by going crazy in free agency and they eventually implode.

I think we need to dip into free agency for one higher caliber player though...

As long as we are pining for a different defense, I wish we had the old Steel Curtain. That, was a defense.

Wrong. Our CBs looked ok because the D line and LBs were much better. Ike is not bad by any means but is nothing like a Revis type CB, you know one that can snag an INT. In terms of total D the Steelers have been great, but as position specific goes, our CBs are merely average. Envy, no, but the CB talent is there we just don't have it. So, if envy is wishing we had a CB that could actually do something other than possibly make a tackle, then call me envious.

How many teams are envious of our 6th round WR AB ?? Just about every team gets a diamond in the rough every now and again the difference is what they do with them, i.e. Tom Brady, Mr. 6th round pick that if not for a Bledsoe injury ends up being forgotten instead of HOF QB so there is luck involved. Seattle got lucky, how many years have they drafted near the top and it is only the last couple of years that they look decent and I still think they along with Wilson are over rated. The same thing with Kapernick, I believe the niners made a mistake in getting rid of Smith in favor of Kapernick, he is a read option QB and teams have now developed ways to deal with that and thus he isn't doing great this year, the problem he presented last season was teams had tape of Alex Smith, not Kapernick but a few more film sessions and look what has come, the same thing with all these read option QBs. I don't envy any team, I only wished the Steelers would address need rather than best player available sometimes.

The point is, you don't need a shut down corner to win SB's, we proved that, twice.
