ALright since I seem to be in an accusatory mood(not really it just seems that way) Did I hear right during the telecast? Did Cowher say that the Steelers were the only team to bring Ben in for a pre draft interview? Then followed up by Nance saying that it was Bill who called Ben on draft day and said how would you like to be a Pittsburgh Steeler? Doesn't that fly in the face of what has been reported and written down as gospel by many fans? That Bill didn't want a QB in the first round and he was overruled by the Rooney's and forced to take him. It sound like a revised version of what took place with Cowher not looking bad in it or is this just clarification of what did happen and he wanted Ben just not as a first round pick? Either way it seemed like new info to me having listened to many talk about that draft and Cowher being overruled.

As if that wasn't enough WHat did you guys and gals think of the exchange between Sims and Cowher about going for it on fourth down vs kicking the field goal and being up two scores. I thought Da Chin slammed the door pretty hard on Sims which was glorious and nice to see him turtle, but the otherside is that Sims knows that his job is to sell the game somewhat and going for it on fourth and goal is more attractive than the safe play of kicking the chip shot field goal. All in all I liked having the coach in there.

Not sure about the pre-draft interview, but I do remember Cowher calling Ben when he was drafted.

I didn't take Cowher's comments as he was a proponent of drafting Ben with the #10 pick, rather that the Steelers were really the only team who brought Ben in and that he placed the call telling him he was the draft pick. I think a more revisionist statement would have been if Cowher would have said he wanted Ben. As for Cowher putting Simms in his place, yeah he kind of did, but I also see Simms point of view too that if you had 4th and inches, this was a chance to make a statement and close out the game - especially with a 10 point lead and trying to push it to where the Jets would need 3 scores as opposed to 2. By the way, I think Cowher did a decent job in the booth.

Personally, I have never been a Simms hater or Collinsworth for that matter. I think both guys are much better than Aikman and Gruden. I have never thought Simms is a Steelers hater and though I imagine Collinsworth doesn't love the Steelers I think he has always shown respect for the franchise. Now as for Nance and Al Michaels, that's another story. I think Nance has always been too cozy with the Patriots and Michael's past comments about the Steelers getting BS calls go there way in the SB win by PGH against Seattle have bordered on being a hater.

It was always understood that Rooneys instructed Colbert and Cowher to go get Ben, that's from the lips of Dan Rooney himself. I don't think what Cowher said is a contradiction to that, just means they did as told.

The other revisionist history was Cowher trying to act like he's a air it out kinda guy and how he kept saying they need to let the young qb sling it all over the field. I was like "who is this guy with the big chin???" LOL.

Dan Rooneys book says in pre draft talks that Cowher wanted OL, but Dan remembering the regret of Marino placed the thought in Cowher's ear to go after a QB, not Ben specifically. That is pretty much it. There were no direct orders and no genius foresight.

Rumor is Cowher preferred Philip Rivers because I think they went to the same Alma Mater, but they kind of knew they would wind up with Ben since since they picked so far back compared to Giants and Chargers.....So in those respects Ben was always their guy.

Anyone else notice that both Cowher and Simms agreed that the best way to bring a o-line together was the play power football?

    Hmmm....

I agree too. I guarantee if we ran powerball and included Will Johnson in the mix we would turn around our offense real quick. You got to stay dedicated to it though.
