I don't have a list. What defines elite? Your list of the most beautiful women in the world is likely going to be very different than mine. :)

I got your back, TTF. I agree that Eli is definitely NOT an elite QB. I'd rank Ben ahead of Eli and I don't even think Ben is elite.

    Agree

Ben's status as an elite hasn't changed its the O/L playing below the line which reflects Ben's abilities. I would dare any of the elite QB's in the league to stand in the pocket of Pittsburgh behind our current five and see how they'd perform.. I think we all know that answer! Hopefully with the latest shuffle to the line Ben will rack some points with the core! As to the reads ref. Psnaps maybe someone just venting.

No I don't think Ben is elite, although that word doesn't have a single definition or meaning.

As for the top 5 question, Ben doesn't make my top 5, and if anyone thinks rationally about it, I don't see how he is on anyone's list. Andrew Luck is a superior QB to Ben in almost every way. The sample size may be small, but he's shown enough that we know what he's all about. There's not a GM in football that would rather Ben over Luck right now. Even Colbert would gladly trade Ben for Luck right now if it was possible, but lets be honest, the Colts aren't ever going to even consider that.

You want to argue he's #6 ahead of RG3, Eli, Russell Wilson, Kap, Cam, okay, I can see that side of the argument even if I don't completely agree, but there is simply no way that Luck is behind Ben in any list, either a present list or a future list.

Is he "still" elite is the only question for me. Bradshaw in his last year's was off. Montana as a Chief...does it mean they weren't elite. Is Ben in that twilight? I know when he came to us his rookie year I had never seen anything like him. The way he would shove defenders to the ground and extend the play is unmatched period. I'll never forget that Ben. Time will tell.

Athletic wise he use to be elite, knowledge wise
and accuracy wise he is ordinary. So no he is not an elite qb.
One other thing, I thought he had the ability to carry a team, this is why I picked the Steelers to go 9 and 7. I thought he would win 2 games on his own. How wrong I was.

I think I'm done posting here for a while (you're shedding tears I know). Steelers fans are supposed to be some of the most knowledgeable fans out there, but I'm starting to question that with what I've read around here lately. People around here are so damn spoiled that we freak out when we're slumping. Every franchise goes through it, it's the way the NFL is supposed to work. People need to stop crying, and have faith in the front office to get us out of it. The knee-jerk reactions really make it so you can't have an intelligent conversation anymore.

I'll make this my last post in some time, to defend Ben...

Guess how many quarterbacks have started more than 1 Superbowl in the history of the league? The answer is 19. Guess how many quarterbacks have started in 3 or more Superbowls in the history of the league? The answer is 11.

Of those 11 quarterbacks, guess how many are in the Hall of Fame. The answer: 8... So who are the 3 left out? Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, and Ben Roethlisberger. Brady is a lock for the HOF, and I think Warner gets in eventually also.

So you're going to tell me Big Ben is the only guy to start 3 Superbowls to NOT get into the Hall of Fame? I doubt it. Oh, and by the way, of those 11 guys Big Ben is 1 of 6 to have a winning record in the Superbowls. So not only is Ben elite, he's a Hall of Famer. He's not Peyton, Brady, or Brees, sure... He doesn't put up gaudy numbers, but he's a gamer.

And don't give me Ben's stats against the Seahawks. Yes, he was young, and he had a bad game. Don't be like the Bungle and Ravens fans and discount what Ben meant to that team and tell me about our defense. You were all there with me when I watched Bill Cowher go against everything he believed in, and letting a 2nd year quarterback come out, guns blazing in Indianapolis and go toe to toe with Peyton Manning in his prime. He threw the ball all over the field in Cincinnati and Denver that year too. Santonio got the MVP award in the Superbowl against Arizona, and 'Tone played amazing, but Ben deserved that MVP, and would've gotten it if not for a tipped pass interception. He played lights out in that game, and put together an all-time great drive to finish the game, despite Santonio getting all the attention with the final catch.

He's not without blame for recent struggles, but since when doesn that not make you elite? Did anyone watch the Pats/Bengals game this week? Tom Brady looked terrible. Is he still elite? Bill Polian (who knows his sh*t) said that Ben's performance against the Vikings was one of the best he's seen. Can you imagine what this team would've been for the past 10 years if we didn't have a QB that bounces 300 pound lineman off him like ping-pong balls?

An arguement could be made that Rogers has had justs as bad if not worse Oline over the past several years and a terrible run game too...

I remember once on PTI that Mike Wilbon said he thought Steelers fans were the smartest fans in football. I just think that's assumed because our fanbase is so obsessed with football and especially our team. A buddy at work is a HUGE Bears fan and he came over to talk some smack after our loss and I started listing all the reasons that we're gonna have a hard time winning this year and he goes "man I can't talk smack to you because you know too much!" LOL! I'm sure every team has intelligent fans though. Well except for the clowns and bungles. LOL.

What defines an Elite QB, is being surrounded with Elite talent: So last year Eli and Brady were called elite, but this year with their lack of talent on both teams, both Eli and Brady aren't playing Elite, if Ben had an Elite Oline with elite backs and receivers he would be elite, it takes 10 other players on offense to make an Elite QB, being Elite isn't a one man job...

some people will never see it this way. i think because Ben hasnt won the MVP in a super bowl he will never get the credit he deserves from a lot of people.

Ben is not only looked at different by Steelers fans but hes also treated different by refs. Brady was tapped on the head last week against Cincy and the ref through a flag for roughing. on that final play against the Viks Ben was mauled in the head and no flag.

for some reason Ben is looked at and judged differently than most qbs. yes hes had some turnovers this year, but the dude is working his butt off trying to make plays with possibly the worst oline in the NFL in front of him.

Ben is definitely an elite qb. is he Peyton Manning? no, but who is. Ben plays the game his way and in 10 years its worked good enough to help his team get to 3 super bowls and win 2 of them.

yes he struggled against the Seahawks in that super bowl, but he was pretty awesome in the 3 playoff games that got them their and in the last part of that season he was great. people tend to forget that. again Ben is looked at and judged on such a different scale.

Nigel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Martin: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
    Nigel: Exactly.
Martin: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
    Martin: I don't know.
Nigel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Martin: Put it up to eleven.
    Nigel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Martin: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
    [Pause.]
    Nigel: These go to eleven.
