    Maybe.

I don't believe Tomlin is the problem with this team;however, Colbert should shoulder a significant amount of the blame. I've seen from two separate sources that the Steelers scouting has fallen off in recent years and Colbert is responsible for hiring the scouts. Assuming those articles are accurate and Colbert fixes the situation then yes, if not then no. So maybe.

I don't know strummer this is another one of those things I think we may never have enough information on to make an accurate opinion. Is the the scouting falling off because of Colbert and his falling down on the job? Is it the Rooneys saying look guys I know you want more scouts but we just don't have the budget for it. Is is both Tomlin and and Colbert not listening to the scouts. The scouts being just plain horrible. I don't know maybe they have covered those things and I haven't seen them I don't normally getting into the scouting side but you are right they seem to have been falling off recently.

I wouldn't and yes he is responsible for our scouting department.

    our newest chidi iwoma (sp?).

colberts son, which last year was a front office intern for the first time.

mark bruener which has been here a couple of years and I had read was responsible for the beachum pick. I have read that the GM and coaches usually have the earlier picks ,from the scouting reports and interviews as well as our scouts. the scouts are usually more heavily favored for the later picks and who they are in favor of.

then we have ron hughes which is the guy that taught Colbert his job in Detroit. he's head of the scouting department. Colbert brought him with him from there. was Detroit that good at drafting before we got them?

there are a few others but it has changed over the years under Colbert. for the better? not sure about that.

The million dollar Question, who just is responsible
for the drafting of players and evaluating of players.
Whoever selected and pulled the trigger on Adams and Gilbert plus some of the other OL should be FIRED. I am thinking it is more of a collective process and this calls for a CLEAN SWEEP! Will it happen probably not. My hope is that the Steelers upgrade their scouting department and become more involved in league wide player personnel. With being cap strapped we must beat the bushes in the mean time to stay competitive until they raise the cap or we can get out from under these poor signings. Could we use Bill Polian as a consultant?

I think Colbert has begun to turn it around. I was ecstatic about his two past drafts. Now, obviously the 2012 draft was a mirage, but at the time, most of us loved the picks. The 2013 class looks very solid. Until I hear of a replacement who will be better suited, leave Colbert in charge.

trouble is, it's not just about the draft.

it's the larry foote's as starters. ramon fosters as starters.

having to bring in two centers at this point of the season after you let one go (legursky) and the guy you keep(malecki) all through camp and then cut him after he makes the team. then bring in cody Wallace and he's never sniffed the field.

guy whimper. de'anthony batiste. adams and gilbert. spaeth. letting lewis go. keeping three rb's all through camp that he himself said were not good enough last year. cutting dwyer. waiting for the 6th round to find an ILB'er. the TE situation. just way to many mistakes on rating players and thinking we can piece mill a championship team. the contract hell he's allowed the team to be in. the scouting department. the assistant coaches turnover. all this comes under GM duties.

    I'm confused ...
Who was mainly responsible for bringing Mann, Bicknell, and Smith here ... Colbert or Tomlin??
While we're at it, who do the assistant coaches report to??

Maybe, but he needs to take a long, hard look at his scouting department to see what it is they're exactly doing. We've whiffed on more player personnel than we should have the last few years.

I agree, I was refering to Mac's ... "the assistant coaches turnover" comment. I don't see how that can be Colbert related.

Three Super Bowl appearances in five years pretty much earns him some slack.

the GM runs the show and nobody is hired without his OK. if not we don't really need him.

mann worked with tomlin, but was retired, plus he has 20+ years in the league successfully and is not the same age as the players nearly and in his first job. MT probably had a lot to do with his hiring. it should have been done a few years before this. especially after losing hines, they're mentor.

smith was wanted by the steelers for several years now I read. not just MT. we saw MT's hires and results on ST's. for to many years.

Bicknell was hired to give haley a guy that ran the ZBS. probably colberts doing, with help from haley.

    who got rid of BA?:shrug::cool:

Rooney's got rid of BA I think
I think BA would have gotten Ben killed by now but cuz ain't keeping him very upright either. I know a lot is on Ben too also, BA is doing good as a head coach. Really he is in his 2nd year as one.

Love this post - I actually am more frustrated with personnel decisions related to backup and role players, contract extensions, etc. with players on the team than missed draft picks.

I actually think Arians is better in a head coaching role than coordinator.

I completely disagree. The Steelers' HC has significant input on the draft. Colbert and Tomlin work as a team. If you look at the Colbert/Cowher drafts, they hit on a number of significant picks. Troy. Heath. Ben. Casey. The list goes on and on.

The Colbert/Tomlin tandem has not produced--or certainly doesn't seem to be. To suggest that Colbert has suddenly "lost" his ability doesn't make sense. In the social sciences, we look at what has been injected into an equation or situation that causes change. Here, it is Tomlin who has been injected into the equation that has changed. The quality of the drafts is not what it was and the quality of play on the field is not what it was.

Colbert is not the issue here.
