Chuck Noll built a dynasty on the philosophy of being fundamentally sound at the basics of playing football. He keep it simple but demanded his players be the best at doing the simple and basic things.

We are in a hole we may not dig ourselves out of this year. we are in this hole because of poor performance of fundamental football. Poor tackling. Too many turnovers ( give-aways ) and not enough turnovers ( takeaways ).

On offense our OL needs more instruction on fundamental blocking, footwork and handwork. Ben needs to make quicker reads and more decisive on where he's throwing the ball. He just doesn't have the time for pump fakes. The running game is so key. It MUST improve or all is lost.

Tomlin record has gotten worse every year on how quickly loss #3 gets here. He talks a good game. Time to start being a better coach on the details.

im getting sick of hearing that Ben needs to make quicker reads. the offense isnt set up that way for one. his receivers are small and cant get off the line quick enough for quick hitters unless its a slant or a bubble screen and his oline gives him about 2.5 seconds. so unless they start running every pass play from the shotgun he cant even get back on a five step drop before hes getting hit.

fix the oline and Ben will put up Peyton type numbers. heck give Ben Peytons weapons and he would have those type numbers.

As long as we are alive Ben is never putting up Peyton numbers.. He is a good to great QB

Two very different styles of play. Peyton has and had in Indy a better Oline then what we have presently

Peyton knows how to read defenses better then Ben. He puts on a clinic week in and week out

Couldn't agree more. Right on, fundamentals would
make a MAJOR difference in this ball team. And I put this
right on the head coach and the players union. Coach these guys up, its just not getting done

No disrespect intended but you must have been drinking prior to writing this.

First- You may be tired of hearing it but its been well documented how he holds the ball too long and the issues that causes besides the sacks he takes. Ben is king of chaos. He is at his best when things break down and he's improvising.

Second- Ben will never put up Peytons numbers. He can't read defenses as well nor does he have the arm peyton has. Peyton is very accurate. Ben is not. Peyton rarely misses his target while Ben quite often over throws his.

Third- You're blaming his lack of quick reads on how our offense is set up and our WRs lack of ability to get off the line. Have you seen A.B. play. He's quick and knows the offense. Miller? Cotchery the vet is not as fast but his knowledge of the game gets him where he needs to be.

Trust me, I get how bad our OL is which is why his pre-snap reads are even more critical.

I think Bradshaw was in his 8th year before he had his 1st 300 yd game. His Greatness comes from his ability to read defenses and call then correct play even if it meant the run game got the glory and not him. Ben has said many times how he wants to be great. I feel he's mis-guided in thinking greatness only comes in big numbers/stats.

Haley has tried to set this offense up for quick reads in an attempt to help Ben but Ben resist, it ain't his style, he loves chaos too much.

The defense needs limit big plays and tackle better.

The offense needs to stop giving the ball away.

Fix those two issues and I think they will have the opportunity to win games.

Exactly!!! The coaches have stepped away from coaching position fundamentals and put more focus on position responsibilities and scheme.

This team has the talent to win and go far. It's up to the coaches to better prepare them and hold them accountable.

i think this is exactly right, Ben thrives on chaos and loves chaos too much.
And I think his love of chaos is preventing him form being a more cerebral QB. I think Ben is a smart enough guy, but his need to improvise keeps from understanding his offense and becoming a smart QB.

Why does the offense sputter for most of the half and then take off when it's behind 14-0? Because you can toss out the 'system', and go sandlot. It's dramatic, it chaotic, it's what Ben loves.

its what makes Ben as great as he is, and what prevents him from getting better.

Sorry, but Ben's inability to make quick reads is a major flaw in his game. He's made up for it with sheer physicality up to this point but as his body continues to wear down, his ability to read the defense pre-snap and post-snap will become even more important. It will determine his success or lack of success on the backside of his career. The offensive line stinks and the Steelers' problems on the line are exacerbated by the fact that Ben is not a quick read kind of QB.

lets get one thing straight. I have watched peyton since he was freshman at tenn. he puts on a clinic when its a regular season game and the weather is good. peyton is one of the best regular season qbs to ever play. I may sound stupid but I truly believe especially after watching him as long as I have, if I have one game to win for a championship? I take ben every time. he couldn't win the big game at tenn and it took going against rex grossman in the rain to win his super bowl. he is one of the greats for sure. nobody can debate that but he can't win the big games. if ben has proven anything over the years to me anyway. he shows up big when the game is big. don't tell me about the first super bowl he won either. we aint even there if we don't have ben

This team seems to be having more trouble with the new practicing rules. It showed last year and it's showing again this year.

I don't think there's an effective plan as far as what the overall tone and scheme is going to be with this team. I don't think there's a lot of communication between the position coaches.

This^ I'd also like to add how is it that teams like the Pats consistently put up points week after week,at home on the road it don't matter. Brady has had WRs come and go,besides Moss for a couple of years who have they had. He makes his guys better. You could say he has done more with less talent then we have had.The elite offensive teams in this game are able to install new offenses week by week tailored to their opponent, yet we can't seem to execute even the most basic plays. I think it's a reflection of the work that is put in during practice weekly. It's also good synergy between HC and QB. Everyone is on the same page. It looks like we are in different chapters. The entire league is geared toward offense. The rules have changed to favor offenses,it should be getting easier to score not harder like we are making it. This team needs a major change in philosophy on both offense and defense. Until then we will continue to struggle ,big time.

Pats haven't put up points all season this year. Brady not having his familiar weapons has really hurt them Despite that, they still find a way to win (obviously excepting today).

He is choke artist for sure but I feel like this year is the year for Denver and Peyton. Could be wrong but he is so smooth

Regardless of whether Ben is as good as Peyton or just how good peyton really is we still have an issue that Ben is a huge part of.

Defense- This is where I believe we should improve 1st. Missed tackles due to poor technique has lead to quite a few big plays and scores. We could at least be .500 if not for poor tackling and dumb penalties.

I used to hate watching Peyton play- walking around, taking forever at the line, etc. As the years go by, I have come to appreciate just how SMART he is. He is amazing at reading a defense and he is so incredibly accurate. When he gets picked off, it is actually a big shock.
