I'm no lawyer, but with the horid O-Line play during the first 4 games, Ben may well be within his legal rights to refuse to play anymore, due to the "no hazardous activities clause" in his contract.

If Ben is healthy he will play. However, if this season follows the last few we won't have to deal with Ben being healthy at the end of the season.

aren't there rules against a qb being taken out for just a series and when he can go back in? isn't it after injury only? or he has to become the emergency qb then? maybe i'm nuts but I thought there was.

fix the line and we won't need all these threads. if we get that bad, I think ben will still start but I wouldn't have a problem with the other two seeing time later in those games. they could use the live fire work.

I still like the landry jones pick. you all were liking him that last preseason game before the interceptions started. you all liked ben too before the interceptions and fumbles started. relax, he's still our guy. block for him and he can play. no he's not 25 anymore but he's got skills.

the only thing that bothers me is he looks very gun shy in that pocket this year. expecting pressure when it's not there sometimes. I know that knee is bothering him now a finger, so that's to be expected after so many hits I guess. I hope that changes, with the changing of the tackles.

as to ball hairs sentiments, ben is not great after his first read or so and defenses move a lot to confuse him after the snap. he's a pretty good pre snap guy though.

he has never been that accurate as to hit guys immediately out of breaks. if the first or second read isn't there, it goes to the sandlot, pump fake to move guys method.

receivers then break off their initial routes and go into scramble ben mode. some go deep, some run to him, some try to get loose to give him a seeable target. he can make those throws but coverage is there usually so no YAC yards.

you don't see ben hitting guys on the break when they are not looking at him and the ball arrives as the look. just not his strength unless he does rep after rep after rep with them. ben likes what he's familiar with, almost to a fault sometimes. he is what he is at this stage of his career, nobody is going to change his instincts.

Not unless they have some new type baseball rules I don't know about :hmmm:

As for Ben, I don't know why they just don't roll him out more, Ben is great at throwing on the run.

it takes twelve blockers to get him rolled out and the linebacker breathing down his back from the backside would beat him out there.:smiley1::cool:

i dont believe that is a rule. otherwise when teams bring in a guy for a play or 2 to run the wildcat they wouldnt be able to put their regular qb back in.

When you start your car, make sure that you open the garage door first to let the fumes out, or this might happen?

He's talking about the third quarterback rule where your third quarterback doesn't count toward the 45 man game day roster But if he enters the game at any position Then the starting quarterback cannot reenter the game They dumped That rule a few years ago.

Its the 3rd string QB. Once he's in, he's in. You can alternate 1 and 2 at your discretion.

I say if we keep loosing, guaranteeing us a top 5 pick, trade him for an extra first & second round pick because this team would be going through a major rebuild in my eyes. Ben can spend the next 3-5 years winning Championships elsewhere rather wasting away on a bad team. The Steelers in turn could use the extra picks to get a younger franchise QB and fill a few more holes.

The more Ben throws picks and fumbles the ball, the less likely you are to get one of those picks let alone two. But what I don't understand is, why would we be interested in that trade? We would need to draft a QB to make up for it, and then we still have the problems we have. Teams that get rid of a QB that won them the superbowl either have Steve Young or Aaron Rodgers on their bench, or they simply think Elvis Grbac is the answer. Andrew Luck is a bit of a different situation, given Peyton's injuries, I understand why the Colts did what they did. However, now seeing how well Peyton is playing, I know they are happy with Luck, but you have to wonder if they have regrets. They may have been able to get the 3rd overall pick plus several other high picks for a trade to make the team better.

Ben will be playing in Heaven. Problem is, if we do not protect him, he'll be starting there on October 14th this year

You know, if we could get Freeman cheap and have him as our 3rd QB this year and bring him on up as the backup next year that would not really be a bad idea.

We're set at QB and the team isn't going to part ways with Jones, not to mention cheap would have to be free.

Didnt that accutally happen to the Steelers though Ben's first year? Ben got banged up and was in the locker room Maddox went down and the third string was in.

If the emergency qb(Jones) goes in then the starter can't reenter the game.

I actually understand what the OP is asking I think? Once we are mathmatically eliminated from playoff contention we should shelf him IMO...

If we plan on keeping him why let him take hits in games that mean nothing...

If we are thinking of trading him then the same applies...Why risk injury for nothing ?

I would also expand that to all the Vets I planned on keeping or trading, and at the very least the young guys get more work and makes your Team better in the long run IMO...
