This is great news. With the organization being in uncharted waters with the season from the win loss side, the salary CAP situation outlook for next year, the age of some of players, and the holes we have on the team, this is welcomed good news from the organization they realizes the challenge ahead of them and making low risk moves to get better.

Anybody is a improvement over Mike Adams at least they did something. Some of the negative fan reaction is probably due to what the Ravens traded and got Monroe at LT.

No I wasn't. I don't care how much they spend. I don't know that I've ever questioned how much they spend on anyone in relation to the cap hit. I said by spending that amount and signing a short term player I don't believe they are in rebuild mode. Try again. Lol

Especially since this is the case...I see it as a no brainer...just out a possible later round pick...depending on the conditions/etc.

And if he stinks it up...he can be canned for nothing.

If he comes back to form and the player he was before injury...awesome (Arians though he was elite before injury when looking at 2011 film)...maybe he gets back in a better groove as the season goes on who knows. Injuries effect players differently...some are not the same after them...some play "scared"...and so on.

    We shall see though...

I have to admit I haven't followed brown since he was at penn st. he was a good player but apparently he aint now. maybe it lights a fire under him. adams done ok at right tackle last season so maybe this will help. has anyone seen or heard him say anything since the trade? he may be excited

My question about this is does it mean that Adams is ultimately done as a Steeler? I mean if they are willing to take a draft bust that was on IR last year to replace him doesn't that speak volumes about their opinion on Adams? Or does it just speak to their opinion of his at LT?

I just hope Adams AND Gilbert both are ashamed of themselves! The Steelers have to go out and make a trade for a bust of an offensive lineman all because of their stinking ineptitude! I hope these two second round draft picks that the Steelers put so much misplaced confidence in are embarrassed and humiliated by this move. Especially Adams who literally BEGGED the Steelers to draft him and give him a chance and Colbert and Tomlin were dumb enough to fall for it! This is a PATHETIC situation no matter how you slice it!! Adams and Gilbert = WEAK!!!

Yup, you did say that. you said.

"You don't take a guy with his salary cap hit and his level of play if you're rebuilding. You go with the young guys even if there is going to be growing pains with those guys.
It's a band aid move which tells me they still are not in full rebuild mode, just more of a remodel."

Now I read that as questioning the cap hit for what your getting. My bad, I gues you could read it as conjecture as to what mode they are in Rebuild/contender.

Now we find out he's not going to take that big a hit this year. What we need to know is what happens if they cut him after the season? Did that restructure take care of all the bonus money?

I dont think they are done with him. He's still young...in reality its almost like Adams rookie year still as he played in like 4 or so games last year and 4 this year...the opportunity will be there for him to grow and improve.

I was just thinking today about how Adams went and begged them for another shot and how you would think he would really try and play like an all-pro every down since they were generous and gracious (and probably stupid) enough to give him a shot. One question I have though is was there a linemen on the board at the time we took Adams that HASN'T turned out to be bad but turned out to be really good? I'm just saying how much of a whiff is Adams? Was someone much better totally missed in favor of him?

Well, who's there for him to learn from? I think this is a twofold move. Get a guy who at least was pretty good in and see if he can hack it, while giving him someone to work with.

Well I would think he would learn from his coaches but I've pretty much giving up on this staff being able to help linemen. Just too long a list of disappointments.

at this rate sounds better , it's a try for a player that is not performing , a lot different than spend 3,6 milion . basically he cost less than whimper and cody wallace . i question the cap because every money you spend you don't have in the future (since everything you save can be prorated in next season )

And Gilbert is worse than Adams,
Wait till they play a team that has
a respectable DE on Gilberts side.
Boy this is a mess.Someone is going
to get fired over these OL & DL selections.

In fairness to Gilbert, I think he's graded out pretty well the last couple of games. Seems to be getting more comfortable so I can't see the Steelers making that move at this point.

I think what you will see is Brown at LT and then Beachum, Gilbert and Adams fighting for two spots at RT. My thought is you keep Beachum and Adams and cut Gilbert. Or keep all 3 and cut Whimper. At this point it can't be worse than it was against the Vikes can it? Jared Allen looked like LT against our line. What is Suggs going to do to our tackles and more importantly Ben???
