I'm hoping to God they come to their senses before the put pen to paper. We're just making one bad move after another.

IMO Gilbert is by far the worst OL on the Team and Adams is not a LT so the move makes perfect sense if it works those 2 positions at the same time....

 At least they did something I guess. I just hope they did not give up anything higher than a 6th rounder and that they still go into the next draft with the o-line as a priority.

We have $1,858,498.00 in cap space as of right now. We are likely looking at some restructuring to make room for this. Redman could be part of this trade, which would lower that restructure amount of course.

Yeah might as well get anyone we can and everyone we can before we blow this thing up and start over...

IMO the Team knows we are so shy on talent overall any upgrade is a upgrade...I hope to hear the Steelers have traded for 2 CB'S a FS a TE next...

I'm tired of this front office trying to string together a team with band aids! Don't make a move just for the sake of making it!

When they said in the off-season we weren't rebuilding, I thought, sure they have to say that... but STUPID moves like this make me believe THEY believe it. If they restructure another damn contract to push money into the future to make room for a guy that's no better than Max Starks (who could be had for 0 draft picks, at the vet minimum)... Colbert should be fired.

I get that there's not a great LT sitting out there, but don't go get one that's maybe not even better than what you have FOR 5 MILLION A SEASON!!!

You know, I'm sure that the FO know who Max Starks is...

And pretty sure they would be aware that he's available...

And fairly confident they're not wanting to burn money for the sake of it...

So I would conclude that whatever Levi Brown brings, it's better than what Starks would.

Brown was good in the past and was off to a bad start this season. Sometimes trades like these are good for the player to make a turnaround and rekindle their past awesomeness.

I am pleased by this deal, as it gives us hope that our line will be better. I also like guys who were at least good at some point in their career, whereas Adams /Gilbert have never been.

Is he a long term solution? Probably not, but we didn't think that Velasco would have the potential to be, and he is turning out quite well.

Final thought, trying out new linemen gives us the chance to find who might be better than who we have. We haven't done a whole lot of that recently because the team was sold on their draft pick linemen, so I am excited to see what Brown can do.

This is my problem with this forum. People assume that every move the Steelers front office makes is the right one.

Look at what PFF and look at the articles written in Arizona about Levi. He's barely better than Adams and is probably our highest paid offensive lineman now.

I get what you are saying SBD, because I was feeling the same exact thing but then was thinking, it's not just the Steelers passing on Starks, he's been cut by two other teams this year, maybe he has gotten that much worse. I don't know.

It's not that I'm assuming the FO is right. What I'm saying is that it's highly likely they've considered Starks, and moved on.

This isn't a move I'm particularly excited about - especially the cost end of it. But it's not like the FO is going out to make the worst move ever deliberately. Very likely there were more than a few phones being rung in the past week, and this is the one that got picked up.

I wasn't excited about the Flozell Adams move a few years back, and that turned out alright. I wasn't excited about the Whimper move, and that's turned out horribly.

So, as much as I'm not excited, I'll reserve judgement until I see what he does on the field.

I would've liked to seen a guy off the street, than this. A Velasco type pickup. They 're out there. Colbert has lost his damn mind!

The question is... who's out on the street? (Apart from Starks)

Cause they have proven that they are experts when it comes to O-Line personnel?

This isn't so much me wanting Starks as not wanting to pay 5 million for another turd. If we wanted a turd we can get one for nothing is my point.

His pass blocking isn't great but they are saying he is a good run blocker, that is an instant upgrade right there, if the offense can generate a run game it will keep defenses from just bum rushing every single snap and that in itself will make the pass protection better as long as it is only one side the QB has to worry about. If it holds true that we end up being able to run behind Brown, then Haley, if he is any kind of OC, can game plan around the LT position by using unbalanced lines and draw plays, but Brown has to be able to run block so we won't know until we see him on the field.

On the 4 real I truley believe it's an effort to help decide all the holes we have to fill in the future...

If Adams can play RT then that firmly puts our scouts looking for a LT...If he can't then basically we are in trouble either on Offense or defense draft wise..We need a CB bad and a FS bad no way to get the type of guys we will need at all the spots we will need them..

If we are going to try and make another 3 or 4 season run we will be depending on retreads to do it IMO...

The point is, what ever little gain we get from this (probably none), will be offset by having to move more cap money to subsequent years. Moves like this hurt us in the long run .
