We'll be lucky to sniff the playoffs with Ben under center. Look at every year since Ben has been in the league. Compare our defensive and offensive rankings. You'll notice that when we don't have a top defense we don't make the playoffs, such as in 2009. This team goes as far as our defense takes us. Without a top defense we don't make the playoffs, let alone win a SB. Besides, just because we once went 30 years without a good QB doesn't mean it would happen again. What happened in the past is irrelevant to this current team.

Not that it matters because Ben isn't going to be traded.

Do you see Ben winning another SB any time soon?

There is something different with him. I see a panicing QB now, not a calm QB. Whenever there is even the slightest pressure he seem to now panic and break out of the pocket and hurry a very inaccurate throw, even when it is obvious a single step up would buy more time. This is not the same guy we were used to seeing.

I think you wait until he looks like a beaten mule and settle for the lowest possible return haha

Really, trade the guy who has 2.0 seconds to get a pass off, but he's the problem? Yes, he has thrown some pics, but trade him away for picks and a clean start? You know how often a player like Ben comes around? Go educate yourself on how many QB s we had since TB left, and you will understand

Im sorry but trading Ben is just plain crazy talk. Even a regressed Ben is still a very good QB and is perfectly capable of transitioning this team from what it was into what it will be. Getting rid of him will only make this team worse. Much worse.

This team is in transition and getting rid of Ben makes no sense. QB is one of the few positions that is not a problem. It would be complete INSANITY to create a hole at the most important position with so many others areas to address and would send this franchise into a tailspin.

We need youth... strong legs, quickness along with accuracy! Face it we all love Ben, but it's time we stop sugar coating his physical abilities and fallibilities. He's been hammered..broken..taped and screwed long enough! It's been his MO of play that brought him to this. His style of play will shorten -wear down any QB prematurely. Ben has reached that point in his career. Its time for change! Which is it.. hanging on an used abused worn Ben or shooting for that 7th lombardi. I know all about the contract the monies etc. but IMO the sacrifice is needed.

That was a different time and era,,the game is changing these QB'S coming out now are a different Breed...These young guys are playing the position at a pretty high level early in their career..

And again we are not just talking about Ben we are talking about the whole Team and whole situation...Cap to high, need top draft picks at muliple poitions, and we have a lot of Vets aging out of the system...

So we keep Ben and let the Team crumble around him...We are in rebuild mode so the 1st. move is to shop your highest paid most valuable guy to acquire future players esp. when we need so many..

    Contradict much?
You cite the past in the beginning of your post then close it by saying that it doesn't matter.

Let's put it this way for the people that would trade Ben for a draft pick. Which college qb are you saying you would RATHER have than Ben? Which CURRENT COLLEGE qb do you think gives this team the best chance to win RIGHT now? If you can't answer that question then why are you making this argument to begin with?

I would take Johnny Football and a top LT or a top CB... Johnny going late round #1 so if we could get a #1 for Ben we could potentially get 3 1st. round picks next year...

IMO we will pick around 6 or 7 a nice spot to trade back and get extra picks.....If we could get top tier LT,CB, and a mobile QB we could get back in the hunt in a hurry...

Follow that up by a FS and a real #2 TE in round #2 then we would be on our way...

Ben is part of the current team. I thought it was pretty obvious that I meant what happened in the 80's and 90's is irrelevant to this current team. The fact that we didn't have s good QB in the 80's and 90's has no bearing on whether we are quickly able to find another QB. That was a different eta where there was less focus on the QB. It's not going to take us 30 years to find our next franchise QB

Sorry, but I'm not putting much stock into any of your ideas concerning this team after all that nonsense about Redman last year.

This. I'm just shaking my head at all this get rid of Ben talk, I shouldn't be surprised, this is a fan base that wanted TB gone too

@PWP, Manziel is going to be one of the biggest busts ever, I wouldn't give up Landry for him let alone Ben.

It's funny how we always see folks on here complaining about how our scouting and player evaluation sucks and how we've missed on the draft now for several years yet you'll see some of those same people on here wanting to trade away talent for more drafts picks as if it's automatically going to make us better, and as if we'll nail the draft this time around. Just because you trade a player for a high draft pick doesn't mean the player we draft to replace him will be better or even make the roster.

Making drastic moves just for the sake of being drastic isn't the answer.

seriously, manziel? this kid is a cocky, all about me player. I don't think we need that. besides, he will not be a good nfl player in my opinion. his arm is not very strong. I think he his a hype machine. he reminds me of dennis dixon

Ben for Johnny Manziel? Oh hell no!

And how is it that you're so confident that the "Top Tier" LT & CB, FS, and "real" #2 TE picks that you list will work out? All of the sudden any picks we make next season off of a Ben trade will automatically be golden?

Manziel looks very impressive on the field, even against Alabama (he seems to be [make that] IS the only QB to have any success against that team). I would not discount him, especially if you are doing so based on his off the field stuff. He is super composed back there and really can buy time.
Taj Boyd looks to be a good prospect as well as Bridgewater. I have not seen many others yet this year, but I am sure there are some more good prospects out there.
QBs develop fast now-a-days. Not just the RG3’s, Luck’s, Wilson’s, Kapernick’s either, but even the Dalton’s and look at Manuel – already winning in BUFFALO (a team that seems to take Steeler cast-offs).
There always seems to be a good QBs coming out now that can win in today’s NFL.

Same could have been said about Ben in the past (except the arm strength thing).

He is a competitor and a winner.

you really think manziel and the game he has will work in the nfl? he is micheal vick without the arm. he will not be able to stay healthy. I would say the oline he has had at texas a&m is better than ours. he cant make all the throws. he is limited. tebow was also a competitor and winner IN COLLEGE

There is a difference between winning an NFL game and leading a team to the SB, most can't. Kap can obviously, Luck and Wilson look like they can but this is only the second season for all of them, lets see how they follow up last years performance, Cam Newton hasn't looked as good since his first year, big change once teams get film on you. RG III, not sure if it's his injury, coaching or what but not sure what kind of QB he will be, might be another Vick. Dalton and Manuel are far far far behind those guys.
