    Without question.
Who are you going to get to replace him?
The league has evolved into a passing league and you want to take a known and proven commodity at QB and trade him for 2 chances...at what?|
    Crazy talk.

For Palmer, the Bengals got a #1 in 2012 and a conditional pick in '13 which turned out to be a #2. It would have been a 2nd Rounder if the Raiders had made the AFC Championship game. That deal got a Hue Jackson fired, so likely they won't bite again

Really, the Pats? Let's see, everyone knows Brady is going to pass. Short dinks to be exact. Now, what has he done? Gee, given a bunch of rag tag receivers over the years, he still keeps ticking. Can you name any of their WR's this year? How about their undrafted rookie? Hate them if you will but they have managed to get non marquee players and turn them into quasi stars in the league. Perhaps you have seen Welker lately or Woodhead. He only got 2 TD's yesterday. Not bad for a no-name, but somehow, the Pat's continue to plug Joe Average's into their lineup and get them to perform.

What is that old adage about the great players that they make others around them great? Now, tell me how Ben is making those around him better or elevating their games way above their skill level.

Now, name me any offensive lineman on the Patriots. How about any of their all-pros. Can't do it? They are proof that you don't need big names at every position. The Pats continue to get it done with subpar talent.

Of course, their main talent is at QB. Regardless if you hate the Patriots or not, you cannot dis them for their consistency over the years in developing good receivers and offensive linemen who can protect their QB.

Now, if we were offered Houston's No 1 for next year for Ben plus another pick, see ya. Non divisional opponent and we get to dump a lot of cash and have two No. 1's which could be parlayed into even more picks.

We need bodies, not bodies to protect an aged, non mobile QB whose accuracy is marginal. So, what will you do? Get more bodies to protect Ben for how long? Suppose you go in debt and Ben retires in 2 years, then what?

You have a capable backup right now. The Steelers aren't going anywhere this year or next. That is two more years on Ben's clock.

    A) I think you missed my point about the Patriots. At least BFT got it.
    and
    B) Again I don't get the logic of fixing holes by creating more holes. Exactly WHO are you going to get to replace Ben? I guarantee that the replacement isn't going to be anywhere near his ability. You keep mentioning Brady. He's exceptional. He's better than Ben. Do you think that there is someone like him hanging around that the Steelers could just magically go and get?

Its mind boggling how people just poo-poo Ben and think he's some easily replaceable part.

To the people who want to trade Ben, I say he's gotten the Steelers to the SB 3 times and won 2 of them.

I thought Ben played his best game of the season against the Vikes. Trading Ben would be a dumb move and a total knee jerk reaction, which is why people here are calling for it. The people who want to trade Ben for a first and second round pick are the same people complaining about Ben, Woodley, Timmons, Gilbert, Adams and Decastro, 1st and 2nd round picks? These people will never be happy till every player on the team is a probowler. So I guess they'll never be happy.
People need to take a step back and learn how to deal with some losses, we've been the best team in the NFL since the merger God forbid we have to deal with a couple tough seasons.

The question really comes down to: How much time do you think Ben has left.

if you think he's got 5 yrs of franchise or near franchise capability left, you want to hang on to him.

if you think the decline is happening now bad OC clear and evident, and that he has maybe 2 top yrs left, you wanyt to deal him.

Personally, I can't see him having along career. He gets beat up, he doesn't seem to want to avoid getting beat up. And most importantly to me, even though I think he's a smart guy, he is not becoming a smarter QB. His time management is crap, as evidenced by the constant need to spike the ball to kill the clock on the last drive Sunday. His grasp of the offense has not improved. As he ages, this will be important to his longevity as his athletic skills fade. I think come traing camp '16, he'll be just an ordinary NFL QB, but not a difference maker. He won't merit $15MM/yr. I wouldn't deal him now, but ask again on Christmas '14, my opinion might change.

Still haven't gotten an answer about who the Steelers could get who would be an upgrade.

You really think he's making that decision to spike the ball himself? I'm sure Haley is making that call with the headset.

The Steelers wouldn't get anyone right away. Obviously the goal would be to get a good QB in the draft. Easier said than done of course, but that is the ultimate goal. It's possible they could miss in the draft and end up with no QB; however, the same thing can happen by hanging onto Ben until he truly is finished. Either way we could be without a QB, lots of teams find themselves without QB's, it happens.

I think the point is that we aren't just a couple players away from winning a SB. This team is an absolute mess. We aren't going to be a true contender anytime soon and Ben is hurting us as much as he's helping us, so what's the point in keeping him? Why not get something for him while we're not competitive and hopefully we manage to get a QB in the draft and we can turn it around in a couple years. Ben isn't good enough to win a SB on his own. He needs a top defence to assist him. We don't have a top defence anymore, and we don't have a good offence or anything resembling a good offence. Without the entire team playing at a high level, Ben can't take us to the promised land. We had a great defence in 2005 that won us the SB and we had an amazing defence in 2008 that got us to the SB and Ben definitely had a huge part in helping us win that one, but lets not forget the part the defence played too.

Now lets be realistic. We're not going to trade Ben. With his salary, there wouldn't even be any takers, at least not for anything worthwhile. Nobody is going to give us a 1st for him, let alone a 1st and then some. The last guy that did that got fired, it isn't going to happen.

But hypothetically speaking, I would trade Ben in a second if we could get something for him. We're not going to get that much worse without Ben because we're already a bottom feeder, but we could be so much better in the future if we draft a good QB.

Can't speak for all situations, but the situation in the most recent game, that was Ben calling the plays.

That depends on what type of offense you're trying to run. If you're running a west coast dink and dunk offense than an Alex Smith type is perfect. A solid runnng game, a qb that makes good reads/ makes few mistakes = winning. As it stands we have a $100,000,000 qb and very little else.If the value is there I would rather trade Ben and be competitive then keep him and lose. Who cares which player is under center if we're a sub 500 football team.

He did the same thing with BA, too.
Clock management stunk under BA, it stinks now. There is one common variable.

Right, it's not like the OC goes and grabs a smoke and a cup of coffee while Ben shuts the earpiece off. :lolol:
