I've really gotta say I'm not surprised by this because the other night at the game there weren't a lot of Steeler fans there. I was actually surprised by how few Steeler fans I seen. I was hoping that maybe it was because the Bungles have such high hopes this year that they are actually showing up for games and that's why I didn't see as many Steeler fans. Usually when I've been there there have been TONS of us.

I dont see how this has anything to do with fare weather fans. Its just stating that since the team isnt winning that the prices tickets (be it on ebay, stub hub, ticket exchange, etc) are cheaper than win they are winning, etc. Which is kind of obvious...if a team isnt doing as good fans arent going to pay as much to see them.

Fans will pay as long as they even look like they have a remote chance of competing. Who want's to go see performances like what they've been putting on the last 10 games?

I'm not going to buy a plane ticket, hotel and a game ticket to just go see the crap they're puting out on the field! It's called entertainement for a reason. Why would you shell out big dollars to not be entertained?

Edit: Unless you go in expecting to be upset and want to be there when they get a suprise win, which can be a very entertaining experience.

I paid a lot for my ticket the other night but I don't regret it. At the end of the day, I'm a fan of the team and I like to be there when they play. I like the feeling of walking in to the stadium and seeing the other fans and watching the players warm up and run out of the tunnel and waving my towel and screaming like a mad man and even giving them a piece of my mind. At the game Monday I was down at the field while AB was warming up and I hollered at him and waved my towel and he nodded and smiled at me. Then the Art Rooney walked about 10 feet from me and I said "Hey Mr. Rooney" and waved my towel and he smiled and waved. THEN Dan Rooney walked out and was a few feet from me and I'm not gonna lie I was like a little girl seeing the Beatles but I didn't even yell at him. He's REALLY feeble and I felt sorry for him. I'm sure many of the people on here from the Burgh have seen him in person many times but for an old boy from east TN it's like a once in a lifetime experience to see him. I factor things like that in to my ticket price regardless of how the game plays out. I also consider that I'm getting to see some great talent on the other side of the ball as well.

I realize that and I've made the trip as well. I'm one of those guys that likes to stay until the last minute, even if they're losing. I used to watch them in Jax a few years ago because the tickets were cheap as hell.

I'm also, sure that more people will splurge so they can get that experience for the first time.

People are not dumb, they will pay to see a good product on the field, if not why bother? Tell me why when big time players come to town (RG III)
ticket prices soared? If the Steelers continue to play as they have, you will see a lot of ticket dumping for certain games. Wait until it gets cold, the yuppies will be dumping tickets faster than you can say boo.LOL The Rooney's better be concerned about the product they are putting on the field.

Losing will expose the fair weather/bandwagon type fans quick. The day I start basing whether or not I'm going to or watching a game on their chances of wining is the day I quit being a fan.
Fair weather fans are nothing more than leaches. They wear the colors when the team is wining and suck up the glory, but at the first sign of failure they start to distance themselves.
I'm glad ticket prices are down. Now the dedicated fans can fill the seats at a fair price. I'll be coming back for another game this year.

I love to go to steelers games whether they win or lose. I would obviously prefer a win but even if they lose I just like to go to the games. But what I do expect us for the Pittsburgh steelers to put a good product on the field. That doesn't mean win, but it does mean not to imitate the new York jets or Oakland raiders. This current team is an embarrassment to all those past steelers players and coaches who have built the legacy that the steelers have. I don't even care if we blown out, but we are imploding. Players fighting with coaches. A head coach who didn't hire and doesn't want our current OC. For the first time since the 60's, this franchise is a mess. It's not just the losses, it's the entire package.

I'll still watch on TV but I'm not spending thousands to travel to Pittsburgh right now. Not until someone in the organization shows some leadership qualities and puts a plan in place to fix this thing.

Tomlin is a lame duck coach who isn't trusted by the Rooney's. Haley seems to be hated by the players. I think both of them need to go. If the Rooney's don't trust Tomlin to hire his own guys then how are the players supposed to trust him.

Have you been lately (other than Monday night)?

This has more to do with Bungles fans than Steelers fans. Five years ago people were practically giving away tickets here... Now I paid $75 for nosebleeds.

I went to the Titans game with my wife, twin boys and there fiance's and we had a great time. It was the boys first time in pittsburgh to see a game and even though the result wasn't what we wanted it was still a great experience.

But I do understand shelling out all the money to watch a poor performance but I try to make a game at least once a year. Just to support my team. The rest of the year I enjoy watching them on NFL Sunday ticket and I can yell at my tv all day long.

Jesus, right?? Why does everything have to go back to real fans vs non real fans?? I took my daughters to the season opener two seasons ago. It cost me 600.00 by the time it was all said and done. I had know idea what the outcome of the game was going to be nor have I known any other time I have gone. However, 600.00 is ALOT of money to me. I want to be entertained so if we are going to put crap on the field, then I will save my 600.00 and watch it on TV. Im still watching the game though so I must still be a Steelers fan.

The last time I was in Cincy was 2010 and it seemed like there were much more Steelers fans there. I think the Bungles are excited about the team they have now and actually want to go watch them. That crowd was really fired up the other night. Last year in TN though we probably actually outnumbered the Titans fans but there is a huge Steeler fan base down here. After the game on the radio they were talking about how they had never seen anything like that. They said it was probably more than 50% Steeler fans.

But wait, isn't that one of the supposed hallmarks of what makes Steelers fans so great? Isn't supporting the Steelers regardless of wins or losses a part of what separates being a Steeler fan from the rest of the NFL?

I've heard a lot over the years about how great Steelers fans are because the stadium is always sold out and how thats a reflection of a great fan base. Reality is that when it comes to actually putting butts in the seats, they are merely average.

But just because people arent shelling out money for hotels, tickets, gas, food, etc. doesnt mean they arent supporting the team anymore.

Yeah, but when you make your decision to not go to a game because you think they are going to lose then that's a problem.

Ticket prices are down because less people are attending the game so sellers have to be more competitive with their prices to give theirself a better chance of selling than other sellers.
And why are less people going? Because the Steelers are not winning. And what do we call fans that do that? Bandwagon/faiweather fans.

but if it is a season ticket hold selling through Stub Hub, the Steelers have already sold the ticket. Buying from the stadium should be face value. The up charge comes from someone trying to profit off their ticket.

I think you're missing the point. Much is made about 40 straight years of sell outs and many see it as an indicator of great fan support. But a better measure of fan support is how many people actually show up at the game. % of capacity. Pittsburgh is usually firmly planted right in the middle of the league.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/attendance/_/year/2012/sort/homePct

Jacksonville actually had better fan support at games last year.

I've been saying this for a while. The fans in the actual city of Pittsburgh actually don't seem as die hard as the fans around the country. I just think it's natural for that to happen because maybe they take them a little for granted since they can see them any time they want. But the fans that live far away are always fired up to see them. That's just a theory I have. It's not that the fans outside of Pittsburgh are bigger or better but just sorta "used" to them or something. I would just guess that the fans outside the city are the ones more die hard about attending and staying to the finish and all that.

I understand what you are saying, after reading the thread, I went back and quoted the wrong piece. My point was about the ticket prices going down in price, that those tickets weren't from the stadium, but from season ticket holders (already sold). But I completely agree with paid ticket holders not showing up, the game I attended last year was a sell out, but not a capacity crowd. Just seems odd to me, as I would expect there to be a high demand for the tickets somebody doesn't want to use. Perhaps it is also an indicator of the economy. Maybe the economy of Jacksonville is better than Western Pennsylvania.
