The Steelers don't panic which makes them unique none of us were born the last time the Steelers fired a coach, the Rooney's didn't fire Cowher after 3 straight non playoff seasons. I don't agree with some of Tomlin decisions but it's a lack of talent on the team that's why they're struggling. Redman is not a starting feature back in this league and Antonio Brown not sure he's a number 1 receiver you have no tight end who can block the O-line can't open any holes for the running game. And the whiny fans blaming Tomlin for picking these players I really doubt he has that much say in personnel GM Kevin Colbert has been here over 10 years he has the final say. Ask the Browns and Raiders fans how's it working out for them firing their coach every couple of years. The Steelers didn't didn't win 6 Superbowls by overreacting after a bad season time to rebuild.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...

There is no "one" problem with this team. There are a number of problems which, when added together, make for the abysmal performances we've seen so far this season.

Those who want to reduce it all to one person - i.e. "Fire Tomlin!" - are seriously deluding themselves.

And yes, yes, yes, some of it does come back to whose in charge. Tomlin is not blame-free by any means. But there are no quick solutions to this, people.

    Good post, OP.

I wouldn't want to see Tomlin fired just yet. I do think he needs to address some issues and if he fails to do so then his employment should be in jeopardy. The problem is that some of the issues may not be completely addressed until next off-season. If he finds a way to "fix" those kinds of problems before the season is lost the guy is a magician.

So, do you trust Colbert and Tomlin with the "rebuild"?

I don't want him fired either. You have to deal with the cards you're delt. The offense line is the number one problem with this team. And it won't be fixed this year.

I was ready to have him walked off the field when he did nothing to challenge that horrible tripping call. He looked at that replay, he saw that tripping was an absurd call and he should have walked out on the field and said something. That was the single play that took the air out of Ben's canon. Ben was moving the ball, and the refs sucked the sails dry. When a team doesn't have their coach go out on the field and fight for them, then what's the point.

Can't challenge it, but yeah, I instantly thought of when Cowher shoved the picture in the ref's pocket showing we didn't have 12 men in the field.

Cowher did later say that he was ashamed of doing that, that it didn't set the right example, etc. etc.

    I want him fired. He's not a coach, he's a cheerleader.
The Woodley offsides was case in point. Our coach stands there and claps his hands. Our former coach and the one before him, would grab these people by the facemask and ream them a new ass. The encroachment penalty near the end was great too. He started yelling then and the penalty went in our favor. The fumble and the hurry up offense attempt by Ben. People blaming Haley for substituting instead of Ben calling the shot. Isn't it the HC job to step in at times and override in situations? He's clueless.
Listen to his press conferences. He's all talk, smoke and mirrors type guy. He never has a definitive game plan and skates around answers.

When did MT showed that he could fix something. Handling running backs! Poor offensive schemes with their type of personnel! Last years team not in shape! No pass rush! Keep playing the wrong personnel (Moyer over Cotchery)
The list just goes on and on.

MT talks a good game, but never was a good coach, unfortunately we have to wait it out for a couple of seasons before Rooney's do something. He got by in the past because he had players to overcome the lack of coaching. Now that he has to actually coach it up, he doesn't have it.

This. When was the last time we had a good Oline? 2007? Seriously, at what point do we no longer accept having a weak Oline. It's not like it's only been 2 years, it's been over 5 years that we've had one of the worst Olines in the league. We keep wasting high draft picks on Olineman and it accomplishes nothing. So either every single guy we draft is a bust, or they're not being coached properly.

Based on our drafting history and based on what other coaches around the league do with UDFA on their Olines, I'm going to put the blame on Tomlin.

Cowher may have had a few losing seasons, but he never had a team that was an embarassment to watch like Tomlin's steelers currently are.

There are two different debates: 1. Whether or not he WILL be fired; 2. Whether or not he SHOULD be fired.

You're right in regards to #1: the likelihood of the Rooneys changing their philosophy and canning Tomlin because of a couple of bad seasons is unlikely. HOWEVER...this is Art III's team now. And it seems to me that he is a little more aggressive, outspoken, and pro-active than his dad and grandpa. (That's just my sense of him.) So anything is possible.

Are you talking about being fired after the season or during? Because there is zero chance he is fired in season, Art may be different but Al Davis would have to be possessing his body for Tomlin to be fired now.

Well, he hasn't had one yet, so at least 2. (Assuming you mean consecutive)

I consider 8-8 a losing season according to the so called STANDARD. When you don't even get a sniff at the playoffs 8-8 is a losing season in my book......

I think most so called fans (especially the ones that want a coach who has NEVER had a losing season fired after 2 games) are missing this point you made "And the whiny fans blaming Tomlin for picking these players I really doubt he has that much say in personnel GM Kevin Colbert has been here over 10 years he has the final say."

Let's see a new coach gets hired but isn't allowed to bring in his own Coordinators? What coach would put up with that BS. IT WAS MANAGEMENT who wanted BA gone and IT WAS MANAGEMENT who wanted TH (I dont even believe Tomlin and Haley had any relationship prior to the hire). When the heck does that ever happen? This leads me to believe that our draft failures were not final decisions made by Tomlin but by management. I don't think MT wanted Dwyer to begin with (thats why he does not play) no more than he wanted Willie Parker or Frank Summers to be honest but I'm beginning to wonder if those of you who question when the Rooney's will grab the reins and take control by firing the coach have thought to yourselves that maybe ITS THE CURRENT OWNERSHIP that's part of the problem. Maybe Art Rooney Jr is more Jerry Jones than we want to believe. I'm not saying Coach Tomlin is without fault or blame (to be honest I've seen the greatest coaches make trivial mistakes) but in the words of Bill Parcells "If they want you to cook the dinner they ought to at least let you shop for the groceries". I'm not certain if ownership has trusted Coach Tomlin enough to throw him the keys to the car to go to the market.

I like the fact btw that Tomlin NEVER directly throws his coaches or players under the bus on camera. Those of you who want to see Tomlin with emotion should have seen the post game conference. I saw a man visibly upset but CONTROLLED. The same type of discipline and control I hope he is able to relay to his team. I've said it before and I will say it again Bill Cohwer as much as I loved him COST US SUPERBOWL APPEARANCES. And all that yelling , spitting and chin poking means NOTHING! The fire has to come from the player. I see VERY FEW PLAYERS on this team with FIRE especially on the Offensive line. They were better years ago when everyone talked about how inconsistent they were and then they wound up in the Superbowl (seems like they took it personal). There's no Willie Colon's on this line (Willie had fire, made untimely penalties but had fire). Pouncey has fire but he's gone for the year. Now to be honest I DID SEE some improvement last night (1st half no penalties, Special Teams. JJ) so i'm still optimistic that we will only get better once we get a blocking TE and a steady RB. Those 2 alone should be able to work the middle of the field which should open up the receivers (whom btw i've said are WAY TOO SMALL to be number 1's)
We may go 0-4 but this ship will be righted and WE WILL make the playoffs. Now get behind your team and stop whining.

And here we go AGAIN with the "so called" fans. Does this EVER stop on here?? I am doubting Tomlin's leadership - as I have EVERY right to do- and I can GUARANTEE you, I am as big a fan as anyone on this board.

I'm just going to throw this note into the discussion:

For those that rip Tomlin as being a player's coach and that he seems like one of the guys, instead of being a coach, look no further than the absolute mess that is developing in Tampa Bay. Greg Schiano (who I admit is one of my favorite coaches) is as tough and old school as they come and his players are starting to revolt against him. In today's NFL, I just don't know if the tough-nosed coach can get away with it with this new breed of players coming into the league.

Also, being a head coach does not necessarily mean you have to be a mastermind of X's and O's. That's up to the coordinators. Not every head coach has to be Chuck Noll or Bill Belichick to succeed. If a coach isn't a football genius, he has to be a great motivator and make critical decisions when they need to be made. The latter is where I fault Tomlin more often than not.
