First post here, so go easy on me haha

Like many of you, watching the OL the past few years has made me sick. We keep getting younger with top tier picks, and we keep getting worse. This leads me to believe that maybe our line is too young to be successful as a unit. 60% of our line (80% when Beachum is in for Pouncey) has been a full-time starter for less than a year, and they are all trying to figure out how to play OL at an NFL starting-quality level (and they play like it too). It is tough for one individual player to get over the proverbial hump, if literally every other starter aside from Pouncey is trying to do the same. I think that we have some young players with tremendous upside (Adams, Decastro, Beachum) who should all be in the plan for the future of this unit, however we surround these young guys with players (Gilbert, Foster) that make them look bad. We've "complemented" our talent with scrubs.

This leads me to the solution... While many people think the answer to our OL problem is drafting an OT, I disagree. We would only be making the problem worse. We can't keep surrounding our guys with "unknown commodities" because currently, our line is a giant "first-year starter mistake". If we surround the young talent with players who are proven NFL starter-quality players, I think that they will make quicker strides in the level of their play. I think the Velasco signing helps this, its just too bad that our only starting-quality lineman had to be knocked out for the season in order to make this happen. Anyways, does anyone have any other input? Agree with me? Disagree? Have at it.

*side note: Imagine a line like this for next year... Adams - Pouncey - Velasco - Decastro - (NFL caliber RT), with Beachum Foster and Embernate? as back ups. I like this. Our current line, I do not.

i prefer this for next year
nfl caliber lt (j.matthews) -pouncey - velasco - decastro -adams

    for this season
to me the biggest mistake was put adams at left when is rt at best , same with foster good on the right but not on the left , gilbert should be a swing bu ,and beachum should start at left tackle

    beachum decastro velasco foster adams

I like it. I think Pouncey and DD would be great around a strong center. I like Adams potential, need to replace Gilbert.

I think the problem with our O-line is our O-linemen.

Joking aside, I am not sure about our talent at the left tackle position, and if the opportunity presents itself to get a decent LT prospect in the draft, we need to consider it. Adams is a solid prospect, but I don't see him having ideal LT feet in pass blocking. He looks like a pure RT to me. I hope I'm wrong, because he'll be guarding Ben's blind side until another one of our O-linemen rolls up on his leg (I give it 2-3 weeks). I think Adams got the LT job this preseason by default because Gilbert was so bad at it. I've felt from day 1 that Gilbert was a wasted pick, and I've not seen anything to date to change my mind. Beachum is an OK stop gap at RT, but he was scary bad in his opportunities at LT this preseason. No footwork at all.

I not sure Adams has quick enough feet for left tackle!!! Of course I don't think they have another tackle that has quicker feet!!!!

And please don't ever put Wimper in the game!!!

I think we should of kept Starks or at least tried to resign him. I think Adams is another two years away from starting at any tackle position. I think we should of kept Willie Colon and let Foster be a backup. We essentially let our quality depth walk out of the door without adequately replacing them. We let legursky go and replace him with Malecki (who we let go) and replace him with Wallace.

I think we release/cut/didn't resign/ too many veteran players on the oline and didn't replace them. Now if we have another injury on the oline we might see our first forfeit in the NFL.

Should've made and kept Legs the C, put Beauchamp at LT, moved Adams to RT... And an uninspired Pouncey at Foster's spot! But I digress!

make any sense? I'm half in the bag so sorry if memory/positional names, haven't served me right!

sorry but you must have been watching a different guy then beachum at LT. I don't believe he gave up a sack at that spot. i'm all about drafting Cameron erving from fla.st. though in the next draft. if he come's out which he likely will do, he is the real deal and i'd take him over Mathews.

as for this year, I like the beachum idea and the idea of putting adams back on the right side with foster or Wallace if he shows he's capable and mobile, to run the ball. beachum and DD on the left.
