I never said anything about benching him. Just said it was dumb and not many seem to be down on anything concerning Decastro.
As far as not whining about it and move on, why not apply that to all mistakes and just shut this place down?

I think DeCastro needs to have his eyes checked. I mean he missed that block form feet not inches. Living in south Florida I remember when Bob Griese was playing for the Dolphins and he had trouble hitting receivers, well come to find out he had bad eyesite and never did anything about it until the team called his attention to it. Just a thought, as watching the replay, hard to believe he missed that block by so much. I mean the guy he was supposed to block was at least three feet away from DeCastro when he dove into Pounceys leg.

yeah seems to me that pouncey was not playing the same scheme decastro was , in a zone blocking you have to block your guy for amoment and then disingage to go on a second level , it's like a chain moving , (if i have understood well)

You're probably right, just seems the other four take a lot more of a beating around here. Right now they all deserve it.
Just one time I'd love to see Ben come out. After a game and say these guys suck. Now that would be funny.

I still think he was off balance a bit because he tripped over Gilbert's foot on his way there. Watch it again in slow motion, as he takes off that way, he trips a bit and never regains himself enough, and he still tried to make the block. But by being a bit off balance, he could not execute it properly.

Thanks for bringing it up. I was thinking the same thing after watching the replays. I realize Decastro would never do something like this intentionally but it looks like such a gaffe you wonder

Its legal and so long as its legal then you use it to your advantage. They will eventually stop it all together. They have made some modifications on what is considered a legal chop block but IMHO it should be taken out of the game all together.

    OK, I'll bite.

Why the hell would you have a design where you put your supposed "road grader" on the ground on purpose?

    Makes no sense.

What I would believe is Pouncey shedding and moving with Decastro getting there for the cut/block after and just being late so he lunges without thinking about it.

Right again Freak, they were not on the same blocking scheme. I watched the Philly offensive line zone block last night, and what I saw was all the line men cut block at the same time, right out of their stance. They were all in unison, and was something to watch. Our line looks nothing like that.

So last year DD got injured and missed most of the season, and this year knocks out our best O lineman for the year. That means that even if he plays well all year, he has been a net zero for his 1st 2 years in the league. All I have to say is he better become the second coming of Faneca in a hurry or his name is going to be Buster.

Heres my thinking on this play...

53 needs to chip the nose and get out to block the LILB flowing right....53 gets held by nose slightly on 53s right arm..This slows 53 getting to second level....66s job is to cut nose....He dives to where he thinks nose should be..Because of slight hold on 53s right arm he is not clear...66 lowers to cut nose...Rolls up on 53s knee...BANG...53 done for year...

    Nobodys fault....Just football!!!! It happens.

I`ve read everything here, and can agree with a lot of it...
I used to like us playing "dirty" on defense, when everyone else in the league was doing it.
    I like the "intimidation" factor.
The way the game is now, though, I just don`t understand why "chop blocks" haven`t been outlawed completeley.
With all the protection recievers, and QB`s are getting, why is it still legal to dive at the knees of an O-lineman who is engaged, "as long as you do it from lining up 2 spots away"???
The whole "chop blocking" scheme is cheap and dirty, but effective.
If other teams can do it to us, we have every right to do it to them.
Unfortunately, we`ve never done it before, and are going thru "growing pains"... which cost us our startng center for the year.
    Nobody`s fault.
I admit, watching tha play, I couldn`t figure out, how in the hell DCastro, could mistake the Gold Pants, that were moving away from him, for an enemy lineman, coming at him, in Blue, or White, or whatever the hell they were wearing...
Bottom line is, It happens fast... he lunged.. **** happens... it sucks.
If they would just outlaw that kinda block altogether, we wouldn`t have these problems.
Of course, a 150 pound rb could probably never take out a 250 pound linebacker that`s about to take his QB` head off, without diving for the knees in pass protection.
I don`t know the answer, because, I saw Suh get fined for a "dirty hit", when he hit someone from the offense at the knees, after his fellow defender picked the ball off, and was running in the open field.
It would almost have to be a "never hit at the knees rule", which is unworkable.
Maybe just, when a player is engaged in a block, period.?
    IDK...
If they are so worried about "head shots", why don`t they protect the knees, as well?
Or (My favorite answer) don`t protect either one, and let em friekin play!
They will deal with the consequenses, just like we are dealing with finding a replacement center!
Honestly, I think the linemen ned mor protection from chop blocks, than receivers, or qbs need protection from hard hits.
Those aren`t usually at the knees, and linemen get rolled up on all the time, which is neither a penalty, or anybody`s fault.
Letting them still use chop blocks in any fashio0n, only endangers the linemen more...
    That`s my opinion.
Everyone else is free to have their own.
    GO STEELERS.
