I'm surprised no one is talking about this. He was nowhere near the Titan's player. It didn't even appear like he actually looked to see who he was cutting. I know the guy feels bad but this has got to be one of the worst all time mistakes in terms of execution and result.

For some reason Decastro can do no wrong around here. That was so dumb I don't even know what to say.

maybe he closes his eyes before he hits.

maybe he's slow and was trying to catch up to a missed block.

I don't think anybody is saying it wasn't wrong...

It's just people around here aren't stupid. Bench him? For what? Yes he made a stupid mistake, and it really hurt the team but who are you going to play instead of him?

He did it, it was dumb, there's no point in whining about it now. People make mistakes, move on.

Many were hoping that DeCastro was the second coming Faneca but he hasn't exactly stopped the "bust" whispers from getting louder.

    BUST WHISPERS?

He's played in FIVE games. Give the man a break and let's let him finish out the season.

I was going to start the same exact thread yesterday...what an a$$. I couldn't watch the game as my son had a baseball DH, so I assumed he got pushed into Pouncey. When I saw he dove at his knee, and the play was nowhere near there, I just shook my head and said "what an a$$"

Yeah we were talking about this play the night of the game. I said the very moment it happened that it was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my life. But to say that he should be benched doesn't really make sense because there are no players to back him up. I think ultimately the reason Pouncey got hurt is because DeCastro timed his "block" HORRIBLY bad! If injuries on the line continue are we gonna be looking for a new line coach? Or did we just get a new line coach? I know we brought in a new receivers coach didn't we? I can't remember if we brought in a new line coach or not but if we keep this crap up we will be.

Kug took a college coaching job, so there was a vacancy. Jack Bicknell Jr. was hired during the offseason to replace him. That's where all the zone scheme talk came from the past few months, and what's behind Pouncey's injury in a way. Cutting is new to the Steelers OL, and not something they can practice in scrimmages during training camp. DD screwed up obviously, but it's not something that could have happened last year I guess is what I'm saying.

Yeah they were saying that they didn't get to practice it in camp. I personally think it's too dangerous for us but hopefully they can learn to only tear the OTHER team's ACL's. LOL. Just kidding!!!

The cut block is the most lethal play int the game today. I've been against the various rule changes, but eliminating the cut block is one I'd be in favor of. Shame on us for instituting it, somewhat ironic it ruined the season of one of our players rather than our opponent. Goes to show what can happen and it will be interesting to see how DD fares when asked to do it again...especially with a new center who's been on teh team for less than 24 hours.

Absolutely agree about it being lethal. I'm not a fan of it when the Ravens and Raiders OL are doing it to the Steelers DL either. I don't agree with the shame on us stuff, though.

it's not about the cut block , it's more about getting off the ball and engaging the defender in a timely fashion with the guy playing to either side of you.

DD was late getting there. pouncey was engaged with the guy so much more quickly then DD and DD had to lunge to get his block.

foster and adams have this trouble too. adams is engaged with his assignment nearly two counts before foster makes contact.

the zone is predicated on double team blocks, which is predicated on those two linemen engaging at the same time. I've been harping for a long time about our mismatched linemen and this is proof positive of that fact.

Dude I honestly think Foster could be our very worst linemen. He gets blown up constantly and by extension gets Ben blown up. He was doing it in preseason and he was doing it Sunday. I mean I really dislike Gilbert and Adams gets owned frequently as well but man Foster is gonna get Ben killed.

so is gilbert. adams at least is a good run blocker and if we can run the ball it makes the pass protection a smidge easier on the line and the offense as a whole. all the parts have to work as one. it's just not set up as good matches across the board.

"I don't agree with the shame on us stuff, though."

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, especially in the NFL which is a copy cat league. For me, though, if I don't believe in it, I won't do it, even if it means potentially more wins. Feel the same about signing bad apples and taking a chance with the hope they win win us more games. We've been running the ball for decades without the cutback block and I believe we still could still make it work without it.

He was not trying to hit the Titan in the knees...he was throwing himself in front of him so that he falls over as he moves forward....

If Pouncey slides off into the LB....and lets his guy go...DD takes out Pounceys guy clean...and no one says a word.....unfortunately none of that occured
