Wait, what? I read that he didn't practice today, but he hasn't been ruled out yet.

Actually, I'm not too upset about this, because at least they don't want to. What had me so livid before is that they seemed pleased with his performance. He was their first choice. This year, we are getting absolutely killed at the TE position with injuries, so we don't have much choice. I now believe that they would rather not even have this guy around, but are stuck with him.

We do, however, have a choice to not play him at FB. He can be on the sideline or an in-line blocker. I don't see the need to make him lead blocking for anybody.

What did I do to deserve this? I don't understand. I mean WHY do we have to endure David Johnson again??? Dude he's like the Willy Gay of the offense!

William Gay has some positive attributes, though, and is okay for a backup. Can't say that about DJ.

LOL. Basically a back handed compliment to Willy but there's NO silver lining for DJ. Every time I see that dude I'm like "What are you doing here???"

Let's just say that the Rooney's WERE behind getting rid of Dwyer. Then let's think about this. What does it say about Dwyer if the Rooney's INSIST that he has to go but NOT DJ??? I mean really think about that.

Well, I'm not one to defend DJ, but it says to me that they play different positions.

But isn't DJ really on the team JUST to pass protect? Also is he listed as a TE or a FB?

Nevermind I went and looked. He's a TE. So what exactly is the exact reason to call a guy a fullback? I mean they line up in the backfield but they are eligible to run it right? So what is the point in designating a guy as a fullback on the roster? Is it a way to sneak in an extra runningback? I never thought about that til just now. Now they function more as a lead blocker instead of a runner but are still eligible to carry the ball.

Going back to the BA days, DJ was never called a FB. Why? Because BA refused to acknowledge a FB in his offense. "I don't have a fullback," he'd say. "There is no fullback in my offense." Of course, DJ would still line up in the backfield and lead block for the RB 20 times per game, so... call him what you want, he was playing fullback. He also played TE. I don't know what that was about other than BA being sick in the head.

But as a TE converted to FB, DJ has never taken a hand-off. So he's zero threat there. And his receiving and running skills are weak for any position except maybe Tackle Eligible, so he's no threat there. His lead blocking is really, truly bad, and hurts the team. We are literally better when he's not on the field. The only thing he can half-do is be an in-line blocking tight end, and even then I'd only be comfortable running to the opposite side. If it were up to me, I'd say keep him off the field if at all possible, and put an extra receiver out there. You can still run out of it. I'd rather see Markus Wheaton blocking a CB on the edge of the box than DJ taking on a linebacker right at the point of attack, and getting his ass handed to him or straight up whiffing half the time. But we do need ___ number of guys, so I guess keep him around, throw him on some special teams where he won't do too much damage, and put him in on goal line and run the other way. At least he knows the offense so there likely won't be any random penalties or missed blocks due to something other than physical ineptitude.

I guess that's why I was thinking of him as basically a running back because he would line up in the backfield and lead block. Lorenzo Neal made a career out of doing that though and he helped a lot of guys get some pretty big paychecks I would bet too. David Johnson??? Not so much... LOL.

most guys now are H-backs. sometimes TE sometimes FB.

in DJ's case, he's not slow, he's not fast, he's halfast.
