You've got a point there, but I remember Jerry Jones salivating over Felix Jones when they first drafted him.

He was drafted the year they were on Hard Knocks and if I remember correctly he held out the first part of camp and came in late. He was highly touted as Marion Barber's future replacement and if memory serves was getting pushed into the role. The next couple of years the Cowboy had identity problems with a shift from the Tuna to Wade Philips to Garrett which I would never want to be a player on a team going through that.

Yeah and they acted like Barber was the next big thing and then sent him to Chicago and now he's completely out of football I think.

I always felt bad for Barber because he was a power run guy being forced into a hybrid west coast offense system and then was getting pushed out the door when he hadn't done anything really wrong. I mean he was dinged up but Jerry was so high on his shiny new toy and getting new ways to get him the ball that it didn't matter. That was also the year they drafted Martelius Bennet who underwhelmed for them but has found new life with the Giants I believe so there is a pattern of the Cowboys nto developing hte players they draft.

I am guessing it was the front office vs coaching staff

I saw that too and was "rather amazed"; if that turns up in an actual article or you get more info please post it.

IMO, it means Tomlin is talking out of both sides of his mouth. The Front Office may have said something to the effect ... ok we'll tender both Dwyer & Redman, but you can only keep one of them and one has to eventually get cut, leaving the choice up to Tomlin. Now Tomlin is spinning the Dwyer cut, as it wasn't his decision. True the decsion to have cut one of them may not have been Tomlin's, but the decision as to which one to keep vs which one get's cut I think certainly was Tomlin's choice.

I think that, given the way things panned out, it was more or less inevitable that one of the two would go - really from the moment Jones arrived. NOt enough spaces on the roster to carry two such similar guys, especially when neither is the heir-apparent to the starting job.

I suppose another hypothetical question is: if Heath and Spaeth weren't injured, therefore freeing up at least one extra roster space, might Dwyer have stuck around? Or did someone really want him gone?

If it was Tomlin going against the will of his offensive coaches (Haley and Wilson), we've got a HC with more pride than he has coaching sense and may once again be cutting his nose off to spite his face!

If our FO made this decision, they are sticking their nose where it doesn't belong! This ain't the Cowboys!

Which is it? I need to hear the rest of the story.

Im not sure we need to treat this like there's some division in the ranks. It was pretty clear that we weren't going to hold on to both Red and Dwyer they are similar backs making too much money for what their roles may be. They pretty much hitched their wagons to Leveon from the second they drafted him. While I really like what Red brings to the table he's not a franchise back like they're hoping Leveon is ,if he stays healthy.

they brought in Felix Jones because of his zone running experience and ability. I think they plan on using him and LSH in the same way. I feel one of the reasons they kept Redman over Dwyer is his short yardage and goal line ability which is far superior. Now if injuries play a part in our plan the outcome will remain to be seen. Then they may regret letting Dwyer go. Don't forget there have been rumors since draft day about trading Dwyer,so the writing has been on the wall for a while.

The upside in Redman is more than Dwyer, Redman is a great short yardage/goal line type of back and is pretty good picking up blitzes in pass protect. I honestly believe if Dwyer goes through camp without a fumble they keep him but I think they made a good decision. I know Redman isn't the typical feature back but I believe he is valuable for short yardage, remember when a 3rd and 1 was a passing down because the backs couldn't even make it back to the line of scrimmage due to how bad the oline was and Redman has been pretty decent on getting yards after contact so that alone makes him a need because this offense always seems to end up in those short yardage situations a lot.

I was but now I don't see it, maybe it wasn't accurate and deleted? It didn't mention Colbert by name, I think it just said front office and it speculated that because they singed Jones that Dwyer became expandable. Jist of it anyway.

Does anyone know if Jones still has speed like he used to. I don't expect fortune tellers ,lol. Just wondering if anyone heard or read any reports to the contrary.

Wouldn't surprise me, again, Jones, LSH and Bell fit a zone scheme better then Dwyer and Red. And if Red is still nursing an injury, it's a no brainer.

Didn't Redman destroy the old adage "you can't make the club in the tub"?

    Exceptions to every rule ;)

And making the club isn't the same as starting.
