    Too bad too.

    Bell had two playoff runs.

He was just dominant in the first one until he got hurt in the Pats game.

And he was one of the few guys (maybe the only one?) who played well in the Jax game.

To a degree I am. Because I don’t trust this situation at this point. They did say his reps were limited today and indicated he is still working his way back. So to a certain extent the drama is still lingering.

That Jax game was so frustrating. Ben came out flat as did the defense.

I think him sitting out wouldn't take him off the 53. He'd just be one of the inactives. Could be wrong though.

To free up a roster spot, I think he either has to be cut (obviously not happening), traded, or put on IR (requires him to be injured).

If he sat for a contract dispute, I think he'd be fined and be added as an inactive. But I don't think we get the roster spot back. Maybe the team would suspend him though? If they did, then maybe he's on the commissioner's list or something and we'd get the roster spot? Again...not exactly sure how this works and how much control the team has or if sitting automatically triggers a suspension from the league or something.

This is different than when Bell was sitting out, because he was not under contract because he didn't sign the 2nd tag. But he wasn't a UFA, so he couldn't sign with anyone else either (i.e. not a UFA).

My guess is that this will all be moot because it makes basically no sense for him to sit. And I think there's still a very good chance he signs before the season starts. Particularly now that Gonzales has signed (probably helped that they play tonight and we play Sunday).

Steelers don't have a say. It's now a league rule that fines cannot be waived or reduced.

Wow o didn’t realize that. It really does put Porter at a disadvantage. Although he can fake the injury I guess.

Mike McCarthy says Joey Porter is ramping up....

Wed. Today, Joey Porter takes 1 and only 1 rep in practice and that is it. Steelers can't fine him for not practicing because he took his 1 rep, but Joey wants nothing to do with the team right now.

Dangerously close to watching Porter be inactive on Sunday.

It's different for a QB the tag is a lot more, and they can play in their prime longer than a CB.

They should be able to beat Atlanta even if JPJ doesn't play.

No position has shorter careers than running backs.

The Steelers are trying to ignore where the market for the position has gone. It may get Porter on the field cheap this year, but if they want to lock him up, they made things worse by waiting.

To put it in a way Tomlin put it. " We don't want any hostages" JP can walk if he wants. We need less drama and we want players that want to be here.

That's a dubious assumption. They have quarterback issues, but the rest of that team isn't bad at all.

My point is I expect the pass rush to make Tua ineffective despite the weapons the Falcons have on offense.

Unless we improved our run defense Bijon will have a good game. I suspect we have better personnel this year then last but I guess time will tell.

Not wanting to pay one of their best players who balled out for the team, lowballing with contract offers, seemingly getting it out to the media that they don't think he's a top 5 player while by all accounts Porter has been a model citizen and ascending talent doesn't encourage other players to want to be here.

I'm not happy with how things are going or if this becomes a holdout situation, but this old school approach of turning on a player when he may be the only top cornerback being treated like this by his team is simply outdated and short-sided.

Most young up-and-coming star players aren't treated with this hardline approach. They just aren't.

I think many players may start to worry that certain teams are waiting for an injury to knock down the player's value when they are in the final year of their contract.

Nothing going on here screams "Come to Pittsburgh".

I hope both parties find common ground in the next few days.

You have to be short bus levels to believe Bell would’ve fallen off a cliff if he never took a year off to get fat and out of football shape.

Regardless of how idiotic that angle looks.. the real question is what did we gain by not signing Bell?

Did we win more games? Did we win a playoff game?

This is why the argument is foolish. Acting like a talent that broke the playoff rushing record and carried us to an AFCCG somehow helped us out by not signing makes no damn sense.

We haven’t won a damn playoff game since he left but we somehow came out ahead?
    Ridiculous.

At least make it back to the AFCCG or have "some" playoff success to prove he wasn't needed.

I imagine they will sell out to stop the run and make Tua beat them.

Not worried about our Run Defense personally. This preseason's game against the likes of New York showed me enough. Same goes for the Packers game.

Run Defense wasn't the issue. Pass Defense though?! Much different story.

I worry about this defense as a whole. 13th and 29th is not good. Hopefully moving these OLBs around makes a difference. Patrick Graham should be able to make this defense better.

IDL is where the team has made big strides, both literally and schematically, since 2025. Not too worried on that department. ILB's I will concede until proven otherwise. Queen and Wilson both need to step up.

Of the two that need it the most, Payton Wilson. Put up or shut up for him. No more excuses.

That is true. They do it every year.
