Today’s NFL 90% is passing down. Not many teams run a jumbo package where that 5 LB 3 DL unit would make any sense.

Sure but posting a starting team of 3 secondary in today’s NFL is disingenuous to say the least. What two guys won’t be playing they have listed as starter and what two secondary players will?

That doesn’t really clear it up. That has 12 defensive starters….

 

So starting a guy means the team thinks he is the better back, exactly as the Steelers did when they started Harris every game in 2024. Thank you. So glad we could put this argument to bed.

According to me and the coaches at the time, Harris was the better back in 2024. If we're going to keep dragging this out, please represent my argument accurately.

If you want to argue that listing Warren No. 1 means McCarthy thinks he is the better back for this season, then that means the Steelers thought Harris was the better back every week of the 2024 season. That's fine by me, because it settles the argument we've been wasting time on for two years. In my opinion, however, we should be looking at which back gets the start and which one gets the ball more. This is when I will remind you that not only did Harris start every game in 2024. He got more snaps. He got more touches. He got more than double the carries. By every measure, he was the guy the coaches thought was their best back in 2024. I'm not sure why you have disputed this point for two years, but I'm glad we are finally resolving it.

My point about Dowdle is that the Steelers know they need a back to split the workload relatively evenly with Warren. They tried for that last year, but Johnson was a bust. Gainwell stepped up to cover that failure in 2025, but they needed a back who better compliments Warren, a role for which Dowdle is well suited. I imagine both will have games this year where they get more touches. I think that can be a great combination, regardless who starts each week.

Warren is excellent, but needs to share the role with another quality back. That has been my take on him since 2023 and he has done nothing to prove that wrong.
